Thanx guys!!! Big Grin [/qb]
Okay, antsy pants! Wink I suppose I've prattled on long enough. I hereby nominate xor_nnif_lien for the HOT SEAT!
Okay, I'll start.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? 20 years?

Do you get along with your family? Tell us about them.

What is your most prized possession?

Have you travelled far from your home? Where? Where would be the first place you'd go right now if money were no object?

Would you visit another time period if you could? If so, what time period?
1) Let's say you're an artist (take your pick of forum: writer, actor, musician, painter, whatever...). What's more important to you: critical acclaim or reaching as many people as possible?

2) You have the opportunity to be any other person on the earth for one day. Who would you choose to be?

3) You're at a record store. You find an old album from 1968 by some obscure artist that has what is presumbaly the "original" version of "Don't Dream It's Over". Do you tell fellow Finn fans or keep it to yourself?

4) Train A leaves New York at 2:15, travelling 40mph. Train B leaves Chicago at 3pm, travelling 50 mph. Assume a 600-mile distance between the two cities. At what time do they pass? Big Grin

5) If you were to be forced to play one game of chance (cards, darts, dice, etc.) to save the life of a loved one, what game would you choose?

6) If you had to live the rest of your life with one of the following pirate accessories -- peg-leg, hook hand, or eye patch -- which would you choose? (To compensate, you get a parrot in the deal...)

7) If you played tag as a child and you were IT, did you attempt to catch the fast kids, or did you just go after the slow ones?

8) Let's say you're having a child, and a genie gave you a wish that your child could be the best ______ ever born? Other than musician (which is an obvious choice for a Finn list), what gift would you give to your child and the world?

9) Who made the best James Bond (Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Dalton, Brosnan)? What other actor would you cast when Pierce Brosnan steps aside?
(laughs at hubby's questions and crosses fingers for Jude Law...)

If you hosted a TV talk show, what would the topic of your first one be and who would the guests be?

If you could sucker-punch any character from Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which one would it be?

Name three types of hats you'd rather stay home than EVER be seen wearing.

Would you ever visit a nudist colony?

Princess Diana: conspiracy or tragic accident?

If you had to be the victim of a freaky X-Files or Twilight Zone kind of situation, which one would you prefer?

What song(s) do you dance to when nobody else is around?

If all the food in the whole world suddenly disappeared, would you eat your family pet, or starve?
Cripes, I missed Grace in the hotseat. Guess I'll have to take it all out on you, Xor....

-have you ever felt that you had a guardian angel? If so, he look anything like Gordie?

-what are you looking forward to doing when you are finished school?

-what position do you normally sleep in? Do you have a bedtime ritual? Does it involve a goat?
I think it's more likely that I stumped her with the unexpected math problem... Big Grin

SOLUTION

Let x and y be travel times, expressed in hours...

40x + 50y = 600 (i.e. between the two trains, they have to cover 600mi or they don't meet)

x=y+.75 (i.e. Train A left 45 minutes earlier)

SO..

40(y+.75) + 50y = 600

40y + 30 + 50y = 600

90y = 570

y = 6-1/3hours, or 6:20
x = 7-1/12, or 7:05

So... the trains meet at 9:20pm.

Now, just ignore the part where NYC and Chicago are more like 800mi apart, not 600... Wink
Kia, I seriously contemplated choosing you but decided against it since the point is to ask highly personal questions (and I know that you've been through a very tough time the last few months). Now I see that you might have liked to be chosen and I'm sorry...guess I should not presume to know what others would or would not appreciate.

What is the deal, xor? Quit hugging that goat and get thee to thy keyboard!

Actually Kia, I too was hesitant to nominate you for the same reasons Wuntie stated. Also, you weren't asking many questions of prior hot seat guests, so I wasn't even sure you were reading the threads. Then, after thinking about it, I figured you could just decline if you didn't want to do it and I decided I was going to nominate you next. That was until xor_nnif_lien spoke up. Mabelle appears to be next when (and if Wink ) xor is done, but I'm sure she would be happy to nominate you after that. See, there was no dastardly plot to keep you out of the hot seat! Patience, grasshopper.
OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!! I am sooooooo sorry I haven't replied for AGES...school has been hell and I've been stressed out of my mind and I am SO SORRY guys!!! Oh, and I didn't know you had to be nominated for the Hotseat...I'm sorry everyone who has been waiting...don't hate me!

Here goes...

GRACE:
-In ten years I see myself finished university/college and working in theatre. Not the acting kind...I'm really interested in the backstage stuff. I took Stagecraft this term and it was SUPER fun!!!
-In 20 I see myself married (most likely, or in a serious relationship if not) with a dog, working Monday to Friday, enjoying weekends with my significant other, and not forgetting to party with my girlfriends every now and again!
-I get along with my family very well, at least I think I do. I live with my mum, my dad, and my little brother. We're pretty normal, I guess. We like to laugh, and we watch movies together on weekends and go to my bro's soccer games together. I like to hang out with my mum, she's so cool, and my dad and I don't always see eye to eye, but we have good long talk about everything; homework, the world in general, and I think I'm really lucky to be able to do that. Me and my little bro have TONS of fun together and we rarely fight.
-My most prized possesions (materialistically, my family is my most prized possesion) are my two guitars. I love playing guitar so much i could just explode.
-The furthest I've been from home was Texas. It was really fun, but I missed my mum a lot. (Pathetic, I know.) I'd go to New Zealand right not if I could and just lie on the beach for days. I would have to eat at some point but...oh well!
-I would totally go to the Jurassic period and see if it came with a Doctor Alan Grant... Wink

KIA:
-Paul, because I love "My Telly's Gone Bung" and he seems like the brilliant one that no-one pays attention to type of guy.

AWAMUTU:
-Being 16 is a lot of fun. It's tough sometimes, cuz of the growing up thing, but I have a lot of fun, and I think being a teen isn't so bad if you have family and friends there along for the ride. Having a mum like mine that tells me everything about her teen years is fab too.
-Biggest lie? Hmmm....don't think I'll go there...
-I've got the biggest crush on this guy named Roland. He's super cute and he plays guitar(!!!!!!!).
-Neil Finn. I've only told a few close close friends, because whenever I tell people, they look at me like WHO THE HELL IS THAT??? It's awful.

TONGUETIED:
-I hope I have someone to love, a nice home, and a job that I really enjoy.

PFELLAH:
-reaching as many people as possible. I don't think the critical crap matters as long as you mean something to SOMEONE.
-I would choose to be NF so I could absorb his song writing capabilities!!!
-I WOULD TOTALLY tell you guys!!! I'd burst if I didn't and little old me doesn't deserve to hold something that big inside!!!
-I would reach down with my superhuman strength and pull the two cities together so that you wouldn't need to have trains. A pox on you for making me do math after school!!!! (jk!)
-Darts. I developed a talent for it over the summer.
-A parrot! Awesome! Smiler A hook hand, cuz then I could poke annoying boys in the eye.
-A little of both. I'm into variety. Big Grin
-Listener. The world needs people that can listen to other's problems and help them solve them.
-OMG, Connery! No one does it better. He just had the aura!!! I think they should get Hugh Jackman (sorry Heidi! Frowner ) cuz he's super hot and has already proved himself action movie material.

HEIDI
-UNDER RATED MUSICIANS, and Neil Finn!!! (Natch.)
OMG, it would SO be the rich chick! I hate her so much! (I LOVE Roald Dahl soooooo much!!!)
-Beanie, poorboy cap, and baseball cap (this is hard cuz I don't wear hats).
-ABSOLUTELY!!!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin
-I don't know, but I really wish that butler would fall off a cliff and they'd just leave that poor family ALONE!!!
-X-Files, cuz the Twilight Zone movie scared the HELL out of me!!!
-Everything NF related, and Diggin a Hole by Big Sugar. Also anything by the Trews.
D-on't have a pet, but if I did, I'd starve!

WUNTIE:
-Actually, I apparently had an obsession with angels when I was little, and lately yes, they have been looking like Gordie, and he seems to be lacking clothes...
-Backstage work in theatre.
-On my right side, and I always have to fluff my pillows and blanket and have Archie the goat nibble my toes as I drift off. Smiler

OK...sorry it took soooooo long! I shall be more prompt in future!!!
ok...well...this was a while ago since I haven't lied to my parents in a LONG time...really!
I think I was 12 or so, and my brother and I were goofing around and I cut his hair, it wasn't just a trim, you could really tell, and when my dad freaked and asked me if I did it, I said I didn't and my brother got in SOOOOOOO much trouble, and since he was quite young, my dad didn't believe him when he said he didn't do it.
I felt horrible for weeks after. I told my mum a while ago, and she thought it was funny. I was like "It's not! I was stewing in guilt!" It's interesting how the most minor things can make you crawl with shame.
Hi all. Can I interject? Uh, we kinda had a little mixup with two hot seat threads running somewhat simultaneously. Anyway, there was some discussion and I think after xor and mabelle finish up we talked about Kia getting a turn. Is that alright with everyone? Then maybe Kia could nominate Joanna or Martine and so on.

I'm sorry, I hope you all don't think I'm being a mother hen about this. Maybe I'm taking this way too seriously but I think everyone should get their day in the spotlight and I'm really enjoying asking questions and reading people's answers. I really like the hot seat person getting to be the star for the day and it seems like when there are two threads going at once it sorta diminishes it.

Just my two cents. Carry on...

Smiler
It's no problem xor, I just didn't want there to be any hurt feelings. I enjoyed your answers (although you're supposed to answer them all, even the hard ones Wink Big Grin ).

It looks like we won't be able to put Kia in the hot seat after all, so Martine I've got a few questions ready when you start your thread! Smiler

And xor, you don't have to ask questions, but it sure is fun!

You also have to ignore the fact that Chicago and New York are in different time zones - a reasonable assumption would be that the departure times given are local times, and that therefore the trains pass at 8:53 Chicago/9:53 NY time.
