I'm pretty sure that although Cutting Crew, (and Mister Mister) were hovering around DDIO in the top ten at the time, the song that kept Crowded House from a U.S. #1 was in fact "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" - the duet between Aretha Franklin and George Michael. Am I owed a few pints?
You're right! According to SSS, when DDIO was at no.2, I Knew You Were Waiting was at no. 1.
By the time (I Just) Died In Your Arms got to the top, DDIO was no. 3, and Looking For A New Love by Jody Watley was no.2.
You are definately owed a few pints! Well done!!

Actually, if we're in serious anorak territory, you will have to surrender at least one pint to me: as I am always ready to point out, spring 1987 was the era of "brackets in song titles" ... giving credence to the opinion that if only Capitol management had seen fit to dub the Crowded House tune "Don't Dream It's Over (Hey Now)", it would have been #1.

The correct titles of both tunes in question are:
  • (I Just) Died In Your Arms
  • I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)
Cheers!
