Not the girl - yeah, Don't Ask Why is on One Nil Smiler

As for my goosebumps...

Kare Kare, Fingers of Love, Nails in my Feet and Distant Sun - all totally get me every time all the way through. Never been skipped!! lol!

Turn and Run yeah... the bit in Wherever you are (the climb into my bed bit I don't like as much as the following chorus) "If you think it then it must be true/if only i can make it through/I'll be wherever you are"... gets me every time!

Better Be Home Soon used to make me cry without fail every time Neil sings "And I know I'm right for the first time in my life"!

Only Talking Sense. And Land Torments the Sea has a habit of bringing me to tears particularly the "looking for trouble, trying to find reason" at the end.

I am sure there are many many more!!

Oh yes Bella Bambina - that same bit in Where is My Soul, the whole bit but particularly "but I know they've got my soul".

Oooh, Faster than light. I've got a big thing for Astro at the moment but if I'm totally honest I'm still in the getting into stage with a lot of Neil's solo work. TWT is pretty goosebumpy too!

So many!!! Edible Flowers too - seeing as I'm loving it so much at the moment. This is just Neil's right? Damn! (Tim's Stuff & Nonsense has a real effect on me too!)

I'm sure there are more, but I will stop right there! Big Grin
Just have to say that you all have fantastic goosebump moments and I love all of them BUT my absolute spinetingling/tears in the eyes/goosebump favourite is from "Love You Til The Day I Die"

"Frost on the window pane
The sound of pouring rain
all makes me glad of you..
When I am far away
I am always with you"...
That beautiful, melancholy tone and the minor key
just gives me chills.
What an interesting topic, and Purpleams, I'm in complete agreement...such a challenge to narrow it down!

Okay, not entirely sure I'm prone to goosebumps, but definately, prone to that soaring feeling and lump in the throat/heart clenching feeling! Wink Here's my 2 cents:

When You Come (obviously) Wink ---so true Tina2, you could probably guess my favorite line?! LOL Fall At Your Feet, Into Temptation, Nails In My Feet, Message To My Girl, One Step Ahead ("...she says boy I want you to stay..."), Sinner, and Try Whistling This.
Fitz, totally agree on I Feel Possessed---love Neil's voice at the start "She said I could never do that..." and the line "...I'm not lying, not asking for anything, I just want to be there when it happens again..."
Also, Four Seasons In One Day, Won't Give In (again, love Neil's voice at the beginning), Gentle Hum (at times that is a little goosebumpy I have to admit), Fingers of Love, Catherine Wheels, She Goes On, and Walking on the Spot (love the way his voice waivers, cracks ever so slightly, on "...all you do is cry...").

(okay, so I am prone to goosebumps!) Wink
So many songs, so little time...

Guess I should have just said ditto!

I totally agree -- MTMG is "our song" for my husband and me, and we've been lucky enough to have Neil dedicate it to us on the occasion of our second wedding anniversary. I've always loved the ENZSO version.

The post by Pompey Rob about the ENZSO version of "Stuff and Nonsense" is also one I agree with. Smiler
There are many.

Fall at your feet:
"The finger of blame has turned upon it's self and I'm more than willing to offer myself. Do you want my presence or need my help. who knows where that might lead...."

Into temptation:
"Experience is cheap. I should have listened to the warming..."

Not the girl you think you are:
"He wont deceive you, or tell you the truth. Come on,..."

Better be home soon:
"I could start again. You can depend on it"

World where you live:
"His steady hand could move a mountain. Expert in bed. Come on now there must be something missing. That golden one leads a double life you'll find out..."

It all so good. If only people had good taste CH, brothers Finn and all would be pop gods. Not just pop but in all ways too.

All great lines Smiler .

Seriously! My family has a top 40 book here at home, and I look in it and see all these songs throughout the years that have made it into the top 40 here, and there's some real crappy songs in there. And meanwhile, there's poor Split Enz/Crowded House/Finn Brothers/Finns doing their solo thing/etc., not getting any mention in there at all (well, except, of course, for "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong"). And I'm thinking, "America chose ______ over this stuff to be number one?!?! O-kay, sure, whatever...". It's frustrating.

In "World Where You Live", the first few lines gives me a certain thrill. Wink "Here's someone now whose got the muscle. His steady hand could move a mountain, Expert in bed ..."

On the other hand...

These days I've been listening to The Climber, so heart wrenching. "Vacant eyes can't describe my hunger for your billowing arms Mother I can't help thinking of you take this dull ache away" Makes me think of my dad. :-(

Just bumping this 'cause I heard this song earlier tonight, and while I don't know if "goosebumps" is the right word for it, I will state right now that I think this is one of the best lines I've ever heard in a song:

"There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost, but you'll never see the end of the road while you're traveling with me".

Just something about that line...sounds so romantic and sweet and reassuring...I just like it a lot.

Angela
Okay, so I'm desperately trying to shed my pitied rhinodom. More posts!

I adore his vocal on "Now We're Getting Somewhere" when they go into the final chorus "Well LAY ME OUT with your heart..." I also like "When You Come" for "Prince of Light Receeding," seriously, what a great line.

I also love "Last One Standing" actually. "And you are magnificent, and I can see you with my eyes closed, when you come walkin' into my house, I'll be the last one standing." With him, you never know who exactly he was writing about, but I'll always feel that way about the person I love.

The one song that almost always makes me cry is Lullaby Requiem. "In quiet moments, I'll come undone. And the building blocks sometimes have to crash, not meant to last like a mother's love." It's such a simple, wonderful song about love and grief. Even the beginning if you listen closely when he sings, "bah bah bah bah bah" with the floating guitar, it's just fantastic.

Finally, I love "Into the Sunset" because I've been away from home and it's a way of life. Plus, you really can't beat Neil harmonizing with Neil.
So Here We Lie Against Each Other
And These Four Walls Could Never Hold Us
We're Looking for Wide Open Spaces
High Above the kitchen

Lyrics from the first song on the first Neil Finn related "vinyl" record I ever bought---

From the perspective of a 17 year old who fancied herself madly in love with Neil---boy did that do it and still does to this day when I hear it.

Really changes with my mood but currently Into Temptation, the lyrics :

You opened up your door
I couldn't believe my luck
You in your new blue dress
Taking away my breath

.. makes me ache for someone to feel like that about me again. Been with Hubby for nearly 20 years and don't get that kind of attention anymore. Frowner Altogether now ....... awwwww

Having had a good long think about this, I've managed to narrow it down a wee tad (although I should point out that pretty much anything Neil does gives me goosebumps - those of you who've seen Hessie's Shed, check out Neil tuning his guitar, oh lord). Anyhoo:

Don't Dream It's Over - don't care about how much this gets played, I could hear it a billion times a day and it would still get me.

Turn and Run - sigh

Now We're Getting Somewhere - Neil's vocal just slays me on this. Goosebumps AND shivers. And the rest.

Try Whistling This - sheer beauty.

Edible Flowers - that soaring chorus makes me want to weep.

Lullaby Requiem - can't listen to this without crying...'In strange places we come undone...' Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!

Into Temptation, Better Be Home Soon and Astro also deserve a mention.

Love ya Neil.
