Oh my....can't wait to read all about it, but based on your exuberance alone, I'm ordering a copy of this as my own Christmas present(have to justify it that way, given the exchange rate these days!). Sounds like it's worth the investment!!
On of the best gigs I have ever been to....ever!! That was seriously good. Crowd was quiet at first, itching to get up and dance. The last third of the gig was just blinding.

Two new songs I've never heard live before Black and White Boy and She Goes On. Spine tingling moments several times during the gig.

It was better than Birmingham and way, way better than when I saw them at Wembley the last time round 1994 I guess. Like a fine whisky (Neil had a few on stage tonight)they've improved with age.

NickB
It was fabulous. It took a while for the audience to warm up but eventually we got to the front, only to have loads of agro from security - Neil eventually told them to ease off as CH fans aren't that dangerous! Wink

Still, I ended up right at the front barrier(had been seated in section B!) for a while until I was heavied back a bit by security, but managed to slip into a row and enjoyed the rest of the gig only a few rows from the front! Many thanks to the folks who moved up and made room! Cool

It was a great atmosphere amongst the fans down at the front and the singalongs were great. For me it as the best gig of theirs I've been to - they played all the songs I wanted to hear, including She Goes On! with Nick on his tall bass - fabulous. I can't wait to get my cd!!!

Roll on Tuesday at the RAH!
Echo the comments. A very good gig and they just played on and on. Setlist was widly different to Cardiff which was great. Will listen to the cds later but from what I can remember they played:

Crowded House: Mean To Me, Don't Dream It's Over, Something So Strong

Temple: When You Come, Better Be Home Soon

Woodface: It's Only Natural, Weather With You, Fall At Your Feet, Four Seasons, She Goes On (Nick's request)

Together Alone: Distant Sun, Fingers Of Love, Private Universe, Pineapple Head, Black and White Boy, In My Command, Walking On The Spot

Time On Earth: Nobody Wants To, Don't Stop Now, Say That Again, Walked Her Way Down, Silent House, Pour Le Monde

Others: Throw Your Arms Around Me, snippet of Those Were The Days, Happy Birthday to Nick

Security were being really OTT - trying to keep the isles clear. It clearly annoyed Neil who got on their backs. Nick was shouting at them to **** off. Almost felt sorry for them when they eventually had to slip away - didn't look like they had a clue what to do particularly with Neil encouraging people up to the front.

Nick got a present that he opened on stage - not sure from who. Some book from New Zealand but didn't catch what it was.
It was a great gig, a really epic stadium concert and I loved it! It was nice having friends and family with me this time too, the last two I've attended on my own. We were incredibly high up on the balconies to stage right though, so I couldn't rush to the front. Was on my feet from Mean to Me onwards though (brilliant addition of Duke Special's sax player!!)

Can't help but be disappointed that they didn't play the request I made to Neil at Brighton (In the Lowlands), but they played some brilliantly unexpected stuff (She Goes On, Walking on the Spot, In Your Command, Black & White Boy (!!), Throw Your Arms Around Me), so it was all good!

Thus ends my crazy Crowded House week; I'd only ever seen Neil Finn or the Finn Brothers in the past, now I've seen the Crowdies three times in less than a week!
Tess, and anyone else wanting to order the CD, given the length of the queue last night I'd do it quick, if there really are only 1500 copies.

The show, briefly, was about as good as you could get in that type of place I think. Strange how it took security a while to decide that we couldn't stay at the front - AndiB and I ended up back in the same position after Neil told them to go away, so no damage done Smiler He also suggested that we give the finger to every security camera we saw on the way home Wink Smiler

There were a few funny moments generated by the video screens and the little camera - a close up of the inside of Nick's mouth, which Neil described as being like one of those pages on the internet that you accidentally find and wish you hadn't, and the problem of finding "sticky bits" - the velcro holders for the camera which had been dotted around. I guess the screens must have been a godsend for those sitting at the back. I tried not to look at them, but the video I saw looked really good - a DVD of that would be most welcome, doubt they record it though.

I think you have most of the set there, Finner 79, but also I'm Only Sleeping and a solo song from Mark - I have no idea what it was, something about the people of Kansas?? The sax player from Duke Special had a guest spot on one song as well, in was in the midst of the security mess, so I can't remember which one - Mean to Me, I think.

I have seriously got the weepies this morning, just feel so lucky to be experiencing all this.

Here's one photo from early on in the show: CH at Wembley
Just been listening to the cd - it's come out really well. It was during Mean To Me that they were having a go at security. Neil was asking the people at the front if they were ok and was saying he couldn't believe security could think a Crowded House crowd was dangerous. Setlist was:

Private Universe
Don't Stop Now
It's Only Natural
Fall At Your Feet
Nobody Wants To
She Walked Her Way Down
Walking On The Spot
When You Come
In My Command
Silent House
Don't Dream It's Over
Say That Again
Pour Le Monde
Mean To Me
Distant Sun

*****
Weather With You
Pineapple Head / Those Were The Days
Something So Strong

*****
Happy Birthday Nick
Fingers Of Love
Mark's Song (We Are Not The Jet Set)
She Goes On
Throw Your Arms Me
Black And White Boy
Four Seasons In One Day
I'm Only Sleeping
Better Be Home Soon
It's been 10 years in the making, but now far from my (and their) teary farewell at the Hanover Grand, it's back to business - and the title of the link says it all - WOW! I was completely blown away by last night's performance. Wembley tends to be a bit of a barn of a venue - I hope the sound wasn't swirling around at the back like it used to before the makeover? From block A, squashed into the smallest seats for half the set before we jumped up and danced, the sound was fantastic. Neil and the band made the barn feel like your local pub, with banter, laughs and foot stompingly good music.
The opening track, "Private Universe" was where I thought "oh yes, new drummer, welcome!" and there he must now stay. You are fantastic Matt.
All the old staples were in there (and Wembley was on fine singing form for them!) but also some surprises, Throw Your Arms, Walking On the Spot, She Goes On. Can't wait to hear Distant Sun again on the live CD - it was my track of the show, totally rocked.
If RAH on Tuesday is half as good as last night I'll be one very happy fan.
They really were awesome last night, weren't they? I saw them in June at Hyde Park, and they seemed even better last night.

It was a great set and the new songs felt as if they belonged there as much as the well loved old songs, which is really pleasing.

Distant Sun was the highlight for me too (but then it is my favourite song ever) and I'm still getting over the encores which seemed to go on forever (in a good way of course)... She Goes On was a big surprise and was really welcome!

They're the best band in the world, all over again!
It was my first Crowded House gig (although I had seen Neil solo/Finn Bros) and I was not dissapointed. The highlights for me were Private Universe (amazing drumming) Walking On The Spot, Silent House, Fall At Your Feet and She Goes On (just because it was really unexpected). Distant Sun would have been a great version if they hadn't messed the intro slightly.

One small critisism which is probably more down to the crew/venue was the really muddy, muffled bass sound. Also I think Nick had probably had a few drinks before the show which was understandable on his birthday and I don't think he was at his best on some of the earlier songs. Just my own view.

I was relieved that Neil's voice is as good as ever and it was an excellent vocal and guitar performance. I still haven't warmed as much to a lot of the newer material though.
SmilerWOW Smiler

Having been a follower of the Endz, Crowded House and all things Finn for as long as I can remember last night was...... awesome!

I booked a single ticket in Block B back in June and had a good view. Not one for rushing to the front usually but when I heard Mark's invitation to get up and dance and then Neil berating the security guards half way through 'Mean to Me', I became a woman possessed. Before I knew it I was down the front with the band only feet away. Every now and again I took a reality check and had a look back around at the venue. The use of mobile phone lights suggested by Neil was amasing to see from the front.

It was a very humble entrance onto the stage from a band and a song writer among the worlds finest. The audience's response initially reflected this but it wasn't long before people were itching to stand up and join in.

The set list (Which will probably be posted more eloquently by someone else than I can do it justice) was awesome. Truely a great selection of past and present tracks.

My highlights were 'When you come'. This is a personal favourite of mine as I gave birth to my son whilst singing this song. It was perfect for the labour and contractions! Anyone who has had a child will know what I mean when they next hear it. (He's 15 now and still a pain!)

'Fall at your feet' dedicated to Paul was wonderful. This song was sang at the RAH on the Finn brothers tour after Paul died. That night it was impossible to sing without crying. This time it was still full of sadness but with so much love as opposed to the deep sadness and numbing loss felt at the RAH.

I did think playing 'Sister madly' after this would have been fitting. This would have brought a hug smile back to my face as I would have remembered Paul bouncing around or maybe even 'Italian Plastic' to round off the tribute.

No complaints with what followed though, with tracks which just got better and better. The addition of Matt is fabulous. As all 4 took a bow after 'Better be home soon' they looked complete (although it would have been wonderful to have seen Tim make an appearance during the evening)

Loved the suits, especially as Neil took on the look of a dishevelled school boy as his tie worked loose and his buttons came undone. He certainly bounced around like one. Mark looked godlike in white as the birthday boy Cool

Finally, Neil's voice. Still truly outstanding. He hasn't lost it!

A night I will look back on with a huge smile. Bought the CD and played it on the way home....awesome!

Finally got home at just gone 1am and kissed my 19 month old boy as he was sleeping, he was born with me singing 'Suffer Never'.....his name....Finn of course!

Thank you to the guys for an awesome show. Don't leave it so long next time eh Wink

xxx

PS. Neil commented that if everyone there sent a chain letter to 5 people telling them to download the single, it would be No 1 by Xmas.....I can see it now

Dear Friend

Dwonload this now (link) not only will you get an great song to listen to, you will also within the next 5 mins, win the lottery, find love, get promoted etc, etc forward this onto at least 5 more people and all your wishes will be granted. Okay maybe you won't but Neil Finn told me to do this!
Brilliant show. Right from the opening moments it was clear that Crowded House were on better form than Brighton, and crowd wise - MUCH better than (the start of) Brighton. Probably something to do with how the seating is arranged!

We were in block A3, 16 rows back and happy to stand there for the show...not rushing to the front like Brighton. Security were a pain - hopefully next time CH will tell their management company to book standing only areas Wink

When You Come, Private Universe, Throw Your Arms Around Me were all highlights, together with a jazzy Mean To Mean with the saxist from Duke Special.
Exhausted , I'm back in Dublin after the show. I was in block B row 14, so a bit of the way back. However I was happy to be there, because I was up the front in Belfast and Glasgow and I felt as great as that was, I had missed out on that communal crowd experience. Delighted that every one got to their feet early on . It started on In Your Command and everyone was up for Don't Dream It's Over. Wembley is huge and yet it didn't feel that way - though I was quite thankful not to be right up the back. Finding my way to the gig was to drama, because as soon as I got on the tube I was surrounded by NZ and Aussie accents, in fact they surrounded me in the arena aswell.

The end was quite something , neither Neil or Nick wanted to go and I thought I saw Mark go over and shake his head at Nick as he was asking someone off stage about doing a couple more songs.

Highlights - Private Universe - Matt Sherrod was amazing on the drums. In Your Command, Mean to Me ,Walking on the Spot and She goes on were excellent.Massive banter between the guys. They were on stage for nearly 2 1/2 hours!

Lowlights - I have no idea what the security guys were up to, being too far away, whatever it pissed off Neil big time. Disappointed not to hear the stories from the previous Wembley gig as promised by Neil early on!

Of all the gigs I was at though Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow and London. I think I preferred the Dublin one the most.It was more intimate, more communal and raucous at the end. London came very close.

You've mixed this up with Four Season's in One Day.

I have no doubt whoever is going to the Albert Hall will have an amazing experience. Despite them being at the very end of their tour, they had so much enthusiasm and energy.
Wembley ROCKED!!
& how fortunate it is that they have wheelchair access these days. Smiler

& mercifully "security" were able to restrain Rick Astley from storming the stage for a rousing rendition of "Never Gonna Give You Up". Poor Rick had mistaken the dates for the "Here & Now" 80's revival show, & was in a right curfuffel.

Walking On The Spot & Black & White Boy were great to here live. In fact much from Together Alone was played. & just to set the record straight, Hundertwasser is an Austrian painter. Not sure what that has to do with the price of fish (or Chelsea tickets on eBay), but there you go. & not, contrary to popular misconception, a member of an international terrorist organisation (unless Amway counts), intent on wanton chaos & disorder. Only glad that Crowded House music prevailed in the end. Happy Birthday Nick. Hope the Chocolate Cake was delish.

They may not be Manchester United, but at least they got to play Wembley, again. Tee hee Wink
Was having a VERY blonde moment earlier...... Roll Eyes

Thank you for reminding me it was Four seasons in one day. Both beautiful and fitting songs.

Whoops, should read NICK not Mark!!! LOL I think I am suffering post ecstatic stress Big Grin Well I was only about 10 feet away. Loved the sting pout too.

Have been listening to the CD again today. Really is going to be one played over and over again.
This was a fantasic gig, after being annoyed that my seats were actually on the back row, I thought, stuff it, and ran all the way to the front block of the side stalls, getting two seats that were unoccupied!! - went from being about 200 meters away to 20 Big Grin chuffed!

Wembley was a good way of weaning me off Brighton - especially after meeting all the guys!!

Will never be forgotten - a FANTASTIC weekend!
A cracker! Great to meet another Frenz-er in Block B! (Hi, Nigel.)
A completely rocking In My Command was my favourite, I just wasn't expecting it and so it blew me away.
And of course, the fabs' I'm Only Sleeping, a nice nod and wink to the late great John Lennon(27 years on). The 8th/9th Dec is always strange for me-so good to look on the bright side with Nick's birthday.
Walked Her Way Down and Nobody Wants To were my fave Time On Earth tracks played. I actually think Walked Her Way sounded better than the record! I'll wait for the CD to arrive!!
My goodness, what a fantastic night - I was so worried having been to 7 out of the last 10 nights that Wembley was going to be too big and too impersonal but I was so wrong. I think that last night was the best one and much as I wanted Belfast (near perfect setlist) or Cardiff (fantastic atmosphere and singing) to be better I have to admit that Wembley was the best one so much energy and such a good setlist to get both Private Universe and Fingers of Love in the same night just superb - Neil had such a grin on his face so often during the night that it was just fantastic and the banter is just getting funnier and funnier. I am now looking forward to RAH while dreading it as once that has come and gone thats it for who knows how long

It sounds like it was an amazing show and the setlist was incredible IMO! I'm very tempted to try to get the CD, but the exchange rate stinks and is holding me back.

Thanks!

Considered the exchange rate myself, given the time of year it is. Then thought that it's the same as a few restaurant meals, which I could have ANY time. Can't always get THIS! Then decided to make it my Christmas present to myself and I was done deliberating Smiler Good luck!
I was so chuffed to hear Black and White Boy because it was my request. I was at the front and holding a poster asking for it. I was at Brighton too and got Fingers of Love although I found out later it was on the set list anyway. But Black and White Boy most certainly wasn't (i know coz i got a set list from john afterwards) and I saw neil reading my poster and point it out to the others saying - are we doing this one - just before they played it!

Yey!

That's great. I noticed listening back to the recording that at one point Neil shouts out "F sharp" to one of the band members who seemed to be struggling to find the right chords during that song. I'm not sure who it was but it shows you that they hadn't rehearsed it.
What a wonderful show this was! I left for Morocco for a week the day after the show, so haven't posted until now. It was my first CH concert...I've seen Neil solo once, and Neil and Tim twice, and I have to say it's great to have seen all those different Finn incarnations because you get a different feel and different song selections. On balance, I'd have to say this was the best Finn concert I've seen. I never thought of them as an "arena" band so I was blown away by how intimate they made the gig feel, but also how they used the big crowd to really rock out.

It was definitely one of my top concerts ever, up there with U2 in Dublin, Midnight Oil in Vancouver six months before they finally broke up, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant almost ten years ago, etc etc...I'm not sure I can even pick a favourite moment. Opening with a big, scary, dark, beautiful version of Private Universe absolutely blew me away. It was great to hear so many songs off Together Alone. I now have a new appreciation for Walking on the Spot, never a favourite, though I would have been even happier to hear Nails In My Feet, but it would be churlish to complain! I did scream "Nails In My Feet" in a lull but I was way too far from the stage, I thought it was worth a try anyway Wink What else...I think Weather With You got the biggest reaction, just pure singalong fun. Four Seasons In One Day was so touching. The second time I saw Neil and Tim in Dublin they also dedicated it to Paul Hester and everyone sang. That was very moving, especially as it was a short time after his death and Neil looked so sad. But this was somehow even more moving because there were thousands of people and everyone sang with such respect and solemnity. Relatively speaking for a big concert, you could have heard a pin drop in the pauses! It was just so amazing when they went on and on with the encores. They obviously were enjoying themselves so much, it's wonderful to see/hear. I was overjoyed to hear Fingers of Love...When You Come was fab...I could go on and on. They played the best songs off Time On Earth, I thought, except no Even a Child, and I guess People Are Like Suns. Silent House was also a big dark powerful thing, and She Walked Her Way Down was fantastic. And of course all the laughter and banter made it such a relaxed, happy, family thing. (Nick Seymour pouting like Sting...so funny!).

Only complaint, one of the girls sitting by me was such a pain in the sitting parts...before CH came on she was yakking at top volume, about every 5th word was swearing, and I just hoped she wouldn't be so voluble during the show. Besides some loud off key singing, generally she wasn't, but the screaming of stupidities between certain songs was irritating. She was either drunk, or she's annoying like that all the time. Not really what I expected at a CH concert! But not annoying enough to spoil anything.

Well, I feel privileged to have this band's music in my life. They sing about life, how happy, sad, confusing and thrilling it can be, all wrapped up in a beautiful, touching, bittersweet and even rocking package. Thanks again, guys. I hope I get to see you again...
Like you Elisabeth, went away the morning after the show and been manic since I got back.

What a show - just don't have the words to describe it. Thought Nottingham was good but Wembley just blew me away. The band were just so up for it and enjoying themselves, they didn't want to stop.

Audience took a while to get going but once the rush started got down the front behind the front row who had stood up, right between Nick & Neil. Then the security police got arsy & asked to see tickets. Managed to blag the first one away but little Asian guy insisted I return to seat. From there I saw Nick put his base down in middle of song and remonstrate with security, who then decided to give up and leave everyone to it. So they marched up the aisle, passed where I was now standing & the little Asian guy tripped over my foot - can't imagine how that happened!

Joined the cries for Fingers of Love and Throw Your Arms Around Me and got both. Outstanding! Just a fabulous night and feel so priviledged to be there & be part of a wonderful experience. Can't wait for recorded CD to arrive & will be disappointed if I can't hear myself singing on it!

Only regret was despite wearing my Frenz badges, didn't get an invite to the after-show party!! Ah well better luck next time. Wink
