Very Very Best Of!!

If it gets a decent amount of promotion then it could entice a few new fans, which has got to be good news!
Other than that a bit pointless, unless you have to have every release,it then becomes a money grabbing exercise from the frenz!

Not for me I am afraid!

Can't believe When You Come isn't on the CD release! Especially when something as truly awful as Not The Girl is.

Delighted to see Recurring Dream is on the digital-only version. Shame it's not on the CD version, but the pessimist in me had expected it to be totally ignored.

End of the day though, can't say this matters much to me, as there's no way I'm going to buy this. Could just as easily make it myself in an iTunes playlist. Think I'll stick with my personal Best Of Crowdies playlist though; it may have much less commercial appeal, but I think it's awesome.

Not the Girl "awful"??? Wow. I can imagine someone not loving that song, but calling it "awful" is almost unfathomable. Oh, well. Your loss. Wink

Wow! Am totally lost for words. Have you had a bad experience associated with the song or something!

Srsly, how about the inclusion "Instinct"? Now *there* is an awful song from the previous "Best of".
I think the description in the blurb - 'fan favourites' is quite insulting - have they asked anyone? Where is 'Transit Lounge'??!!

The DVD'll have to be something special to entice most of us to part with the readies - who would hold the rights to concert footage from 2007 for example?

Painaporo - I was sort of alluding to licensing issues earlier, I wonder how pleased the band would be about this 'best of' coming out, when Recurring Dream is of course still available & with them still touring Intriguer?

Funny, I'd have singled out Everything Is Good... as the bad choice from RD. And how about Never Be The Same being on there, but no When You Come? And I'd guess the cover is meant to be Seymouresque, as was FTTW, but that it isn't actually a Nick creation - it looks too slick to me, too calculated to include images from the old LP covers.
Are the going to stock the Best Best Of NEXT to Intriguer? I'm thinking (hoping) if that is the case then the section of the general public that buy "everything best of by everyone)might actually then notice the 'new' album

I had a lady I used to work with several years ago come up to me yesterday when our paths crossed saying "You must be so happy Split Enz reformed this year" Roll Eyes

I replied "Yes, I AM happy Crowded House reformed in 2007"

She just looked at me like I was a crazy lady

I like all 3 of the RD tracks, but I don't think any of them truly deserve to be included. As for "Never Be the Same" vs. "When You Come," I fully support the inclusion of the former as it's a much better song IMO (and the album version of WYC is as "flat" as any CH song in comparison to live).

This collection appears heavily geared towards the UK audience. Of the 19 CD tracks, 6 are from TA and 5 are from WF (including 4 in a row). At least the digital-only edition adds that album's best track, "Whispers and Moans."
Thanks to Painaporo, I've become very fond of alternative tracklists. This deserves one. Mine wouldn't include the newer songs, not because of a lack of quality, but because the classics are simply... the classics:

1. Mean to Me
2. Weather With You
3. It's Only Natural
4. When You Come
5. Fall at Your Feet
6. Kare Kare
7. Better Be Home Soon
8. Four Seasons in One Day
9. Don't Dream It's Over
10. Into Temptation
11. Love You Til' the Day I Die
12. Catherine Wheels
13. Pineapple Head
14. Instinct
15. She Goes On
16. Private Universe
17. Not the Girl You Think You Are
18. I Feel Possessed
19. Time Immemorial

crazy eh?

but for the longer release they are keeping to the "recurring dream" idea of equal amount of songs from each of the first four albums. this time 6 from each (and 3 from TOE)
Good to see Sister Madly on this tracklist. But still no cigar: no way am I going to shell out for a "new" compilation consisting solely of tracks I already have, and excluding any alternate versions of old songs or unreleased odds and ends. I wonder if this means Crowded House have the rights to all their unreleased material in the EMI vaults?

The only thing about the project I like is the cover. It's definitely not Nick's artwork, I would say, despite the references to the covers of the first albums. Still, it's a trainspotter's delight, what with all its references to Crowded House songs and lore -- pineapples and seven worlds, Lester the dalmatian and a Sharondelier, are just a few of the many items housed in the crowded caravan (which may or may not be in the hills). Slightly nerdy, but in a fun way.
I agree, Bart. But EMI's plans for making money off the CH catalog seem so short-sighted. Surely they know that the market for Crowded House records these days consists in large part of devoted fans who are completists, and who will readily buy anything that has a new track on it. So why no unreleased bonus track -- no Zen Roxy, Tail of a Comet, Spirit of the Stairs, Convent Girls? If the album had even one of those, its sales would spike dramatically, no?
I think with the updated tracklist and the list of DVD songs I will buy it.

I like the fact that the DVD has the live Better be Home Soon. Also the Don't Stop Now video and Instinct video. Those alone make it worthwhile to me.

I too am surprised Fingers video did not make it
DVD will get my money too I suppose but more for posterity's sake then repeated viewing. Agree on the BBHS Renzo - that was a very moving performance.

I smell the lure of $ too but I'm hoping/assuming it's on the part of EMI and not CH. EMI's under so much pressure right now, being on the wrong side of an LBO - declining revenues, fleeing artists, closed credit markets, and tightening covenants (see below).

I'm sure they're turning everything upside down right now to see where they can find some change. Little pipeline fill from a best-of cd with next to zero cost is par for the course. Especially so when they don't have to consider maintaining a working relationship with the artist on the roster.

Will be interesting to see what Neil has to say about the release.

If anyone does have a chance....after a concert could you ask Neil and the boys about this release?

What do they think of the track list? Did they have the ultimate final say on the track list of both CD and DVD?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. If they came to Winnipeg I would ask but those guys skipped us GRRRRRRR! Smiler

Yeah, the live BBHS from the Arias, the tribue to Paul, makes this a must-have. Beyond that, it holds little appeal; Watney is right when he says that putting something like Spirit of the Stairs on here would make it much more appealing to the fan base. I wonder how this release affects the oft-mentioned boxed set, if at all? Maybe they've been remastering for the box (or, as some of you would opine, distorting everything and removing all dynamics), and decided to go ahead with this in the meantime.
I wonder how Neil and Crowded House feel about this EMI best off and whether the band and even Tim got asked to pick the track listing.

Disappointing that theres nothing new or rare on the cds. Sad too that theres nothing from "Intriguer". I know that CH are on Universal now. But it would have been cool if EMI could have negotiated for the inclusion of a song or two off that. Make it a bit more complete.

Like I said in an earlier post. It's not quite the very very best of with nothing from the new album.
The artwork is fantastic -- it reminds me in a very modest way of the video for Free as a Bird, which the director stuffed with all sorts of Beatles references.

Once the price drops, this might make a swell Finn indoctrination gift for a friend who might otherwise be put off by a the customary unruly drawerful of live recordings and rarities.
