I would love to see the booklets.  But knowing that I'll read them in great detail once or twice, then probably never look at them again doesn't seem worth it to me at the significantly higher price.  I have a lot of Finn "things" that I've collected over the years, but for what?  It all takes up a lot of space. It's the music that is the one thing I go back to.  And these days, that's digital.  Heck, when I buy my next car it will almost certainly be impossible to get one with a CD player.

Hello all---

Okay, so from what I can tell, it appears that ordering the 7 deluxe sets from the Amazon Canada or Amazon UK store offers the best pricing, with [based on current exchange rates] the UK store coming in at about $127 and the UK store coming in at about $139.

So...I'm just curious, has anyone out there in the US ordered from both stores?  If so, did you find that one shipped faster to the US than the other, or were they about the same?  I would expect that an order from the Canada store would arrive sooner, but you never know.

Thanks,

matt

I've been trying to figure this out myself. Price is a factor for sure. My music-buying habits are disciplined--I rarely pay more than five dollars for an album--but clearly anything Neil Finn does, and a special release like this, is an exception. Even so, the notion of paying twenty dollars or so for each of seven double-album sets--that would be quite an expenditure, even for what amounts to a seven-disc obscurities collection.

Still, there's no rush, and no harm in waiting to see what prices are available to U.S. fans on release. I'm just hoping I can find some way to keep it under one hundred.

Amazon Canada is now showing a release date of November 18th for the Time On Earth deluxe edition, which according to thier shipping policy could potentially delay a grouped shipment of the complete set of reissues. It might be advisable to place a separate order for the Time On Earth deluxe editon if going the Amazon route.
Amazon US is still displaying a November 11th release date.

Coincidentally, "Time On Earth" is now available on US Amazon at $21.98 with free shipping for Prime members, and a November 11th release date.
All of the other reissues are about $10 more expensive.

The best options seem to be changing every few days.

Assuming the release dates are accurate the best option for Stateside fans currently appears to be placing an order for  "Time On Earth" through Amazon US, and the other six reissues from the Canadian site.

Still over a week for that to change however.

Also curious that "Intriguer" is the only deluxe reissue that currently offers Autorip on the US site.

Thanks for the heads up on TOE, Lig. I had cancelled it on Amazon Canada, and was about to place a separate order for it. May hold off a few days and order Amazon US. Or go a head and order to lock in the price in case they go up. If it drops, they will guarantee the lower price. A week earlier release is nice ( and there's a Tolkien book coming out Nov. 11, too. That will make a nice package to get in the mail!).

The fact that TOE was originally released by ATO records and will now be distributed through SONY seems to be the wrench with the reissues on this side of the Atlantic.

The 1st five albums (CH, TOLM, Woodface TA, Afterglow) were all released by Capitol/EMI; now owned by Universal Music. Intriguer was released by Universal, so it stays the same.

I'd be curious to know what kind of negotiations take place between record companies, to ensure us fans get consistency in terms of release dates as well as art/design/packaging.

It still kind of sucks that there isn't an actual 'official' BOX being released in this part of the world. As grateful and excited as I am, I can't help but think someone wasted a golden opportunity to make something really special (with bonus stuff like pictures, posters, etc.) to 'house' all 7 CD''s.

Thanks so much for the heads up on this.  Honestly, I had given up on the US Amazon store, so I stopped checking on it.  Thanks to this update, I canceled my import order and placed it with the US store.  And I was able to use my gift card, which is always nice [since Amazon gift cards purchased in the US can't be used in the Canada or UK Amazon stores].

Could've been a box, designed by Nick and fashioned after the LA rental that was the original "crowded house." Yes, that's about the only thing missing here, but I'm thrilled with the situation otherwise.

Ok, I went ahead and ordered. Six from Canada, TOE from US. With Amazon prime free shipping on TOE, and shipping but no tax to Canada, came to $140.43 total, or $20.06 each. With price guarantee, could go down but not up. Assuming delivery goes ok, I'm pretty darn happy.

Thanks to all that have contributed to this thread. If any kind of "super deal" comes along before the release date, please post it; hopefully I could still cancel, but really, I think this is going to be the way to go.

Thanks for the head's up on TOE - I cancelled my Amazon.UK vinyl preorder and went with Amazon.com to save $10. Release date is a month later than the other vinyl albums but will be glad to have this in December either way!

I am in Canada and had a feeling this was going to happen.  I have been debating about pre-ordering from Amazon but I still think their price is a bit high and was waiting to see if it may come down.  I also wanted to see if HMV may by cheaper.   I actually went to an HMV store this past Friday and asked about these reissues.  They said the reissues were scheduled for Nov. 18.  He also said that he thought they were getting an imported copy.  He also mentioned that Intriguer was delayed not Time on Earth.  Silly me forgot to ask about their price but like Amazon it may change hopefully down before the release.  The mess may be caused by the fact that the 7 albums are not all on the same label in NA.  So massively confused about these reissues in NA.

For anyone in the US that ordered from amazon canada, (excluding Time On Earth) does your order read as this?

Pre-ordered
Delivery estimate: We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate. We'll notify you via e-mail as soon as we have an estimated delivery date.

I'm feeling like this isn't shipping on friday. Yikes.

Yes, I got that. Just took it to mean they won't give a delivery date until they ship, I sure hope there is no delay.

Steve

Much appreciated Jaffaman - will be interesting to learn what causes that length of delay and not just on one specific release, but across the board. Also the wild overnight price increases on the Temple reissue in Canada - why does that happen?

Given these developments, timing dictates that I'll likely be buying the reissues on the high street in Auckland en-route to the encore concerts.

A re-edited update on the release schedule, just confirmed:Update on my earlier post to be a bit clearer about "Time On Earth" vinyl, which is via a different record company.

Australia and NZ: CDs, Vinyl, downloads and streaming available now. "Time On Earth" CDs should be out next week, while the vinyl's looking like December.
UK and Europe: The CD Deluxes and vinyl will be released by next Friday Nov 11th. "Time On Earth" vinyl might be December. Downloads and streaming available now.
US and Canada: The CD and vinyl titles have been moved to December whilst they await stock. They expect it sooner, and will be updating us next week. "Time On Earth" vinyl might be slightly later than the others. Downloads and streaming available now.
Other countries: CDs and vinyl (except for "Time On Earth" vinyl at this stage) are available for importing via www.crowdedhouse.com and other online sites, if they're not released in local stores. Downloads and streaming available now.

US and Canada CD Deluxe Editions will not be available in local stores for the time being. Available online at crowdedhouse.com . Vinyl will be available in stores though.

Man. Remember that time a few weeks ago when I was totally patient about waiting to see what prices became available? Those were the days, right?

So the board has exploded, and rightfully so, and I'm trying to sift through all the information to figure out the most cost-effective way in the U.S. to get hold of all the new music everyone else seems already to have. Downloading from Amazon seems like it would cost me just over $100--coming, of course, at the sacrifice of all the new liner notes, which I really want, but won't pay, say, $60 extra to own. But of course the physical copies haven't even been released in the U.S. yet, and maybe they'll be cost-effective bundled.

Has anyone found a particularly good deal? Am I likely to find a better value than the present Amazon downloads?
