Hi everybody. I'm new here but been a fan since the early 90's. I've been listening to the deluxe editions a lot whilst working from home during lockdown and was really struck by the number of incredible songs from Time On Earth and Intriguer albums that didn't make the cut. There's some great poppy and psychedelic stuff there. So I made my own playlist of my favourite outtakes. I wish I could end Nonsense Of Course before it goes into Strangest Friends from Dizzy Heights but it doesn't really matter. Hope some of you enjoy the playlist. Can't wait to hear any new stuff when it comes out.

Hi Woody McWoodface

I haven't signed up or logged in Spotify but you have made me intrigued (ha ha) to listen to some of the deluxe songs from YouTube and from the ones I have checked, I totally agree the intriguer ones are great and it gives me a chance to hear more of Mark and Matt playing (especially Mark though 🙂)

I better check if the cd is still in stock in Australia!

I do wish we could at some point listen to the songs which Neil didn't sound any good and I can have my own opinion!! Maybe another Afterglow cd/album to come out!

I created the playlist on YouTube as well. All of the tracks are on the Crowded House YouTube channel: -

There are several other deluxe edition tracks that I didn't include. If I did the playlist would go over 50 minutes and I'm not a massive fan of long albums unless it's a best of. Plus I felt they were similar in style to some of the songs that made it onto Time On Earth and Intriguer anyway.

Some of the guitar playing on the more psychedelic stuff is awesome. Not sure if it is all Mark as I believe a lot of different musicians were involved in Time On Earth. But Mark always excelled at those wild psychedelic bits. Take a listen to Turn It Around for some great Radiohead-esque psychedelic guitar playing. I also love how The Intriguer builds and builds and then the xylophones kick in. Little bit Pet Sounds-y.

Won't Be Silent is well worth a listen. I'm guessing that is Nick singing. It's a great tune and he's a talented song writer as well. He does a really funky bass thing on Better Times that sounds a little bit like the sort of thing James Jamerson used to do on Marvin Gaye records. Would love to hear a mix with the bass turned up. More funk than a trunk.

Personal favourite is Bound To Rescue. That song just gets me every time.

Woody,

Thanks for the work, I love playing around with playlists as well. If you want to edit Nonsense of Course and separate it from Dizzy Heights (though this is a CH version, not the Neil solo version), you should download a free program called Audacity. It lets you play a song and record it into a new file, then you can simply hit stop at the end of Nonsense and save it to a music file. It's super easy, if I can do it anyone can. I will add I could never get it to work on my laptop, only a desktop computer, don't know why.
