The Most Moving Song (Non Finn)

in this context i find aimee mann's 'it's not' from her 'lost in space' album quite moving and relevant to my life at the moment:-

Right as I was going through my divorce, after moving into my own apartment, I stumbled onto "Get Out of This House" by Shawn Colvin, from "A Few Small Repairs." It was ABSOLUTELY EMPOWERING at that particular time.

Back in '86/'87 (?) I saw the Stephen Sondheim musical "INTO THE WOODS" here at the Old Globe Theater, on it's way to Broadway...I loved every song in it and have memorized it backwards and forwards since then...

...but when my Dad died in '95, one lyric stood out like a beacon (from the song "NO ONE IS ALONE")...and the music is so haunting, as well...every time I hear it, it STILL makes me tear up, and brings that old familiar lump in my throat...

My friend who was a DJ on community radio played 'Lean on me' when I was going thru a crisis. It was very touching and lead to a closeness between us that later turned into and still is a love affair.

Another song that just gets me every time is 'Don't Give Up', by Peter Gabriel & (coincidentally again) Kate Bush.

Remember the band Arnold, who supported Neil on his '98 UK Tour? Well, check out their latest, Bahama, and in particular the last track, "Ever Lose Your Mind". For me, it is about wishing someone you care about never grows old. It's a beautifully-played, simple acoustic piece with lovely lyrics -

You have to hear it (and, indeed, the whole album - not a dud on it).

Under Pressure by Bowie and Queen always gives me goosebumps when it gets to this part:

well for me that'd have to be Midnight Oil's Beds Are Burning. The whole song is a masterpiece and the message it's putting across is one I strongly support.

It's funny how certain songs just crack you up. 3 years ago one of my little boy's friends died after falling from a tree collecting conkers. He was only 10.

The first I heard about it was when my hubby rang from his work at the local hospital to say he was in intensive care. He didn't make it.

At the time there was this record out 'If I could turn back the hands of time'and I couldn't bear to hear it....it was on every station at the time. I just kept thinking that if I had been his mum those would be the words going through my head.

Still can't listen to it. Cracking up typing this.

Right about the time I broke up with my boyfriend, I bought a CD of Jackson Brownes greatest hits. The song "Late For The Sky" just blew me away because it was like he read my mind!
I was looking for my CD of this recently but I think I borrowed it to my mom....Anyways, there is a line that really floored me and think this is how it went:

"You'll never know what I loved in you, I don't know what you loved in me"
That was so accurate!

And Geddy, "This Woman's Work" was featured in the movie She's Having a Baby That scene is so moving. But the song is hearbreaking anyways...

Im a sucker for love songs, i like to just feel the emotion that they let out and have a good cry to it. Everybody Hurts by R.E.M is one of the most moving songs i've ever heard. Other songs that make me go all teary eyed is Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard, im not sure why but maybe it's his voice in the song, it's very emotional. Heaven by Bryan Adams is one song i really adore in terms of the music and the lyrics, especially the chorus as they're something i've always wanted to say to someone and hopefully i'll get that chance. Music comes from within and a lot of the times when you listen to a song you're not listening to the lyrics or the music but you're actually listening to happiness/sadness the singer/songwriter is feeling and it's like he/she is just pouring their heart out to you and you feel closer to them. I love that about music. Sadly, today's artists arent writing from the heart, they're writing from their wallet and it's really sad. Thankgoodness for Neil and other artists who still write from the heart.

"Untitled" by the Cure

there's a whole story behind this one but at the risk of ruining my keyboard by crying into it, I'll tell you the short version...

The younger sister of my best friend in late highschool and early university, was diagnosed in 1991 with a brain tumour. I'd known her for about a year at this stage, and the poor girl was only 13.

Anyway after many twists and turns and hospital visits and whatnot, she tragically died from her illness, in 1992, at the age of 14. One of her favourite songs, and one she asked for repeatedly in her final weeks, was the Cure's "Untitled"...

It was played at her funeral. It was eerie, sitting in a Catholic Church in country Victoria, Australia, listening to a dead girl's favourite song... there was barely a dry eye in the place afterwards, I recall.
14 is far too young to die... RIP Georgie.

BTW, I still can't listen to this song without weeping terribly, and have blanked out the lyrics (I do recall it is the last song on the "Disintegration" Cure album if anyone is interested).
