The Ledge - The Fleetwood Mac Forum

Hi everyone, new here. I'm a member of that forum (not a mod), so wondering if I might be able to help with something? PM me if you want.

Things there are kinda sensitive right now, which is understandable. Some are interested in Neil Finn but feel confused about his role atm. The forum has sections for the FM era before Nicks and Buckingham joined, a section for the 'Rumours' lineup, and another for the 'post-Rumours' era when Lindsey wasn't with the group for awhile and they got Rick Vito and Billy Burnette to replace him.

There are also some sections for individual group members. But at this time there's really no specific place for Neil Finn and Mike Campbell. Perhaps if they stick around for a time they will eventually be given their own section, but I saw one of the mods say there could be technical issues with doing that. I guess we just have to wait and see.

(I'm obviously a fan of Fleetwood Mac - I saw them live in 2004 and 2015. But I've probably been listening to Neil Finn for longer and think he's one of the best songwriters of all time from Australasia/NZ.)

I've checked out The Ledge fan forum and tried to join but the registration process doesn't work.  Please let us know when/if the moderator gets the system working again.

Okay - I will see if can get an answer on that from one of the moderators, will get back to you on it soon hopefully.

(I think an issue is they don't have a very powerful server, have probably been inundated lately, and they had some problems with spammers. I can see someone was able to register about two weeks ago, but looks like their account was banned... I'll let you know when I get reply on the matter.)

@Romer yes, and from Wiki info about the album: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penguin_(album)

"The penguin is the band mascot favoured by John McVie. His fascination with the birds originated from when he lived near London Zoo during the early days of his marriage to Christine McVie. He was a member of the Zoological Society and would spend hours at the zoo studying and watching the penguins..."

Welcome Southern Cross.  I can totally understand the confusion for those longtime fans. I think it is sad the way it happened and so suddenly ((it would seem to fans although the negotiation was going on for a while going based on the way they got the tickets/promo out so quickly)) . Then to have the replacements ushered in so quickly after the news (again not being able to see what was happening behind the scenes)).. I am sure it might be a while before it all sinks in.  I am not a great fan of FM but am aware of their legend status in the US.  To me Neil accepting the new gig was a surprise but not that surprising as it is something I could imagine him doing.

Ty. This matter seems to be sorted and probably not appropriate for me to continue discussing another fan forum here on this one, so I'm moving to other threads. But yeah I've been fans of both acts for awhile. I'm nervous but have faith in Neil, so trying to stay positive. I'm just staying mainly out of the conversation until we get some more concrete information about the upcoming tour and some better 'previews'.

FM have very complex history and much as I admire Lindsey's talent, and I can understand how people who have followed the group for a lifetime are upset, he can be difficult at times - and used to get temperamental. They've kept touring together but due to some lingering personal differences, appear to have found creative collaboration difficult in recent decades - resulting in lack of new material they could perform live, and accusations of falling into a rut, just turning into another 'greatest pop hits' act live etc.

I'm glad I got to see all the Rumours five together on their last tour - I went along, knowing it would probably be the last opportunity. They still had dynamic chemistry. But a review like this one last year was very damning and I think this split could actually have been building up for some time. http://www.latimes.com/enterta...-20170717-story.html

Don't know if I should but I'm just gonna say it. If it gets back to them and I get banned I don't really care! But the Ledge is not a friendly forum, there are a number of trolls in main section whose sole purpose being there seems to be bashing particular members of the music group, being very negative etc. It's been that way for a long time and some of them are rarely offline. Quite sad really but that's their lives.

I'm still a member after 3 years, so I'm used to it, but I'm not a big participant. I think a lot of people just get fed up and stop visiting. (I took a long break but evidently, nothing much has changed.)

Any sort of abuse of the band and its members is allowed. I've seen similar comments on a big message board that is one of the 'b*tchiest' around (a title they don't mind wearing). They're not even a FM fan board. But they deleted many comments last month that were very similar to those that get a pass on the Ledge forum, for being 'viral propaganda'!

But there are some good people there and the trolls tend to stick to the main section where they get more attention. I tend to stick with the sub forums, such as the 'Post-Rumours' one. For now anyway. I may have to look for something better...

After a couple of weeks on The Ledge, I sadly agree. There is one person there, in particular, who is basically a bully going around using profanities against the band members and others on the forum. It is really sad that the moderators allow this sort of behavior because it keeps good people off the site.

I probably shouldn't call them out directly, but I know exactly who you're talking about. i put them on ignore most the time. Sad person to be spending so much time on negativity - for years at this point.

i think it would all turn many people off joining (it's already been negative there for quite awhile - going back years) and there are many not happy about the situation. Some long term members very close to quitting and have made complaints. But nothing gets done. I'm trying to show some support for Neil and share more about him but often wonder what I'm doing there at all. Recently I said it felt more like a hater forum than a fan forum! And I had many agree with me. Sorry it's not better for folks. But I think it will take time for people to get used to the new lineup.

My last comment on the matter - I think it's time for me to leave that forum permanently. Have found a group on FB to follow this new chapter of the band's history. Gl to anyone else.

To be clear - it is perhaps best to be careful in choosing which 'Fleetwood Mac' message board or group to follow, with the new lineup. I didn't realise at first but the main mod of the Ledge forum is explicity opposed to the change, is very angry at Mick Fleetwood right now, and has openly said so.

Of course there are understandable upset feelings, but I don't view that as being reasonable excuse for some of the rude and disrespectful behaviour, character assassination around in general etc. As I've said however it's nothing new and has been going on for so many years it's now very tired and ad nauseum. Personally, it's not for me.

LB will remain perhaps my favourite guitar player of all time but my feelings about him otherwise are so mixed. Over time I've just learned to accept that some of our favourite artists will have their faults and shortcomings as human beings. I won't always defend LB however after some of what I now know about him and has been well documented. Really, it's amazing they lasted as long as they did together.

A lot more I could say but I won't stoop to that level. I kind of wish there would be more clarification on some things but that's for the band to deal with. I better leave it there now. Next step for me is awaiting some of the actual results of this new collaboration. Then I decide how I feel.

You may not be interested in it - it's a closed Stevie Nicks group and really focused on her. (She's my personal favourite!)

The admin of the group is not allowing any abuse between members or at any people in the band current or past. That includes Lindsey - and I'm quite happy with that. There are some Neil Finn/Split Enz fans there but not much being said atm. I think folks are just waiting to see what the group may do together.

I probably should've made a switch like this sooner but am thinking at least some of the more open minded people where I've been have had some introduction to Neil and perhaps more idea where to start with him.

This Facebook group might be the best option for fans of the new Fleetwood Mac incarnation. I've posted a couple of things there so far and haven't been shot down.

The main admin is somewhat of a nazi, in the sense that he doesn't appear to allow any criticism of the new line-up, but that may be what some Neil Finn fans are after.

I did up a photo collage a couple of years ago for Neil's 58th birthday, and decided to share it to this new Fleetwood Mac group on Neil's 60th birthday a couple of days ago. It got a couple of positive comments and likes, so all is well so far.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I don't mind different opinions and constructive criticisms. Within reason. But am so tired of all the other BS. I may check this out.

@Sugar Mouse it's really only likely to appeal to a Nick's crazy like me. It's 99% Stevie and I'm not going to bring up subject of new lineup there until things get more underway. What @Secret God (Stew) posted is probably better as recommendation of a 'safe' community for those interested. I've sent them a join request.

But I'll PM you. (In the middle of things right now but will get back to you a bit later.)

Sounds good.  I'm still betting that Neil and Mike have a calming influence on the situation (at least internally in the band) and they steady the ship.

Wow, what a joke The Ledge is.

The year is 2018 and they do not allow "free" email accounts to be used when signing up. Looks like the Gmail address I've had since 2004 doesn't suffice...

Sugar Mouse, on a related note I'm reading through the forum now, and appreciate all the posts you've made introducing them to who Neil is. Seems like they appreciate it too.

And on an unrelated note, I've been listening to Danny Kirwan's solo material. His first solo album, Second Chapter, has absolutely blown me away. I honestly never imagined I would ever hear such an amazing album and wonder just how many people are aware of it.

Southern Cross, no probs, hope you enjoy that group!

I've heard the bringing in Billy Preston to the Beatles really helped mend their spirits. I totally agree with what you're saying.

Very cool about Danny Kirwan.  He was sort of a young Neil Finn in his day.

As far as The Ledge Fleetwood Mac form, it's quite a situation there. I've spent the last week over there defending Neil and the new lineup and basically been told that Stevie Nicks is responsible for firing Lindsey for no reason. They honestly believe that this was a Stevie Nicks plan to get Lindsey out (the man who is the primary reason they've been so successful) and bring in Mike and Neil.  It's like being in an alternative universe over there.  The name-calling and vitriol is beyond belief.

Nobody can probably get anywhere with them. For a long time, there have been many anti-Stevie's, even though she's the most popular member solo. I get it that she's not everyone's cup of tea, and she's an easy target with her out there 'persona' which people tend to either love or hate... But I think they take it a bit far.

As a fan, I find it frustrating that nowadays, she tends to do nearly the same thing at each show, doesn't seem very connected with the audience, and stays well within herself for the most part. It may be that she is trying to be sensible, and avoid vocal strain or injury, because that could have repercussions on everything else. She is known to also have very poor eyesight so that perhaps also restricts her, and her interactions from stage. However, I'm hoping she may get a bit more into things during the next tour. (Maybe not singing 'Black Magic Woman' though lol.)

There's probably not much point attempting to register for that forum now. I originally registered a few years ago with a gmail address, no probs, but I think they are now seriously restricting new registrations after a wave of spammers joined a few months ago and started posting links to porn sites on the forum!

Also, the original owner of the site said they had to sell it some time ago, so I don't really know who has control over it now.

I'm glad there's some better information about Neil there now and yesterday, I think they actually shut the site down temporarily to clean it up a little. But I've still cut ties, so I can't recommend anyone else for registration.

I also advised them that the email contact didn't appear to be working, but I have no idea if there's been follow up. I better leave it there I guess.

Yeah to be honest I'd advise everyone to stay away. That's no way to run a forum. I'm happy happy enough for fans to be pro-Lindsey all they like, but for the admins to disallow web-based email accounts... that's just ridiculous. I mean who the **** would feel comfortable using their school, uni or work email address to sign up to a freaking Fleetwood Mac forum? If they are even assigned one in the first place...

I regard myself as neutral about Mick, but I remain a fan of the band and support them with or without Lindsey. People have right to opinion but as a general fan of the group I'm not happy to see any of the band members being called crude, abusive names - whoever they are.

The FM fan community has been divided for quite awhile now though - Neil is correct in this interview https://www.frenzforum.com/top...w-in-variety-article, he's not really being targetted. It's being directed at Stevie and Mick, and is prompted by issues that have been going on for awhile.

But Stevie has enough following to get through this, and I'm glad it sounds like Neil is coping okay. I thought he would, because I think he's made of quite strong stuff

Agreed.  Neil can handle the Lindsey fan backlash but the experience may not be as enjoyable as it should be for him.

I really think that what Lindsey was proposing would've caused the rest of the group difficulties, sorting things out with tour promoters etc. Postponing for a year or more would also have thrown a lot of things up in the air. Christine is obviously in great shape and still has momentum - when I saw her in 2015, from a certain distance you'd think she was still in her 40s. She was great fresh energy in the show again. But she will be turning 75 in just a few weeks.

Anyway, on with the next chapter...
