A few thoughts for those in doubt:
When I first heard CH back in 86/87 I was a preteen kid who fell in love with the poetic words, angst and beautifully arranged music of a band who were discovering themselves through their 20’s and 30’s.
34 years later, it would impossibly naive to expect or attempt to relive that magically nostalgic era. Life has happened to all of us...
When The Finn brothers’ ‘Everyone is Here’ came out in 2004 (read that title and think of what it means, knowing that this album was released less than 1 year before Paul killed himself) I was thrilled to see them rekindle their relationship with Mitchell Froom, who I believe is and should be regarded as a MAJOR contributor to the CH magic that’s mesmerized us all (beyond the organ solos).
2007-2010 saw the return of Mark and the addition of Matt; pure joy, energy and fun! I was there loving every minute of it, ( We even got an encore in 2016). I always felt the production on both ‘TOE’ and ‘Intriguer’ were missed opportunities and would have loved to hear a Mitchell Froom version of both albums.
In (almost) 2020, I now have 3 kids of my own and one of my dreams is to take them to a CH show as their 1st concert, maybe next year. These days I’m a dad 1st, so this whole things couldn’t be more fitting.
Am I happy with this new band? Hell yeas! I’m thrilled! Even more so that we might get North American live dates and new music!!! Will I support them? 2000% yes-yes and yes!
Can Liam and Elroy play Fingers of Love or Private Universe??? That and so much more!
is Neil doing it for the money? Music Industry-show business... He’s still someone I look up to admire and respect on many levels.
i dig this iteration of CROWDED HOUSE and I’m happy were still here to enjoy it.
