You need to change the title of the thread. It's very much accepted by both parties that Tim's leaving was mutual. He didn't get fired. They parted on good terms and Tim continued to guest and play with them.

And I never needed convincing that Tim with the Crowdies was awesome. I love Detroit Rock City, Taxi and Bent In Gent club CDs and the Get Woodfaced dvd.

Yes, these clips are great, from really great band..but, to someone who is not familiar with them, and  with all history of CH, watching this it would seem that Tim Finn is main leader, frontman of the band, as he sure was acting like that one... and thats why he was "fired"...

Forgive me if this is a silly question. What do you type in YouTube to find these videos so you can enjoy watching them on a TV thru chrome cast?

Fair question. Because my YouTube page has been taken over by my professional work, I had to post the video as "unlisted". So unfortunately you cannot find it by searching YouTube. Sorry, I realize now that is kind of a pain in the butt.

When you play the video a YouTube button appears in the bottom right corner, click this to watch through YouTube itself and then find the URL in the address bar.

@Jeremy Loder another way is to click the SHARE button in the posts above (or on the Youtube page underneath the video. This reveals the link to the video(s)    (Part 1 of 4) https://youtu.be/3Agm_5lSpjE

Tim wasn't fired. Clearly despite Woodface being an amazing album and the band doing many amazing shows with Tim in the band, the live dynamic changed. Tim's a good multi instrumentalist but his natural gift is to be a front man not just blend into the background. By the early 90s Neil had gotten used to having his own band and I guess liked not having to share the limelight. Then you add the larger than life personality that was Hessie.

I think it's pretty widely accepted that Tim and the band mutually agreed to part ways. But he wasn't fired. And Tim has since joined them live many times both the classic and revived line ups.

My understanding is that Tim joined on the basis of the extraordinary batch of songs that he had written with Neil at the time, including Weather With You and It’s Only Natural.

Not necessarily a solid foundation for a long term place in the band.

Tim made a wonderful contribution to the band’s evolution, but I don’t think he was ever going to be there for more than a year.

I remember seeing them together for the first time at Ausmusic Day in 1990? Myer Music Bowl? Am I remembering it correctly?

How I miss those shiver-down-the-spine days of new Finn compositions, and how I treasure the memories!

Fantastic videos, thanks for posting. The provocative title serves its purpose I suppose ;-)

It's interesting. Had the shows all been like this, I'd say that it worked quite well. It is different in a number of ways, but Tim's gigantic onstage presence actually kind of brings a different kind of electricity that I like.

However,  I think that judging from one great concert is a bad idea. There were many many concerts and lots of miles travelled;  there was a developing problem, from what I understand.

Moods here are extremely high. We all know they were not always so high.

And Tim had less to do in future concerts after Mark Hart was re-added. After several months, what was once fresh and new became a gruel (particularly when the album didn't immediately take off) and it wasn't working anymore.

In my opinion, Tim's role in Crowded House as honoured guest (rather than dominant co-frontman) is the one that works best.

You are not imagining it. IN fact, I think he mentioned as far back as 2017. He said they weren't sure if it would be released in album form or make it a stage musical. I am not sure why they can't do both! If they go the musical route I hope they at least make it available for fans that can't travel across the world to see it live, at least a Fiery Maze-type stream would be better than just reading a review of it, like some of Tim's other projects.
