changed my mind! - there should be a third single.

i think they should release stare me out.such an infectuous song.my suggestion would be to get matt to re - record the drums with a more orthodox rock beat to replace the existing snare in every beat "stomping" pattern.this would lift the track a bit to make it just that bit more accesible.i would also mix the horns down and get mark to add some hammond and another guitar part.voila - exellent single!

it could also be more effective on another note - it's not on most versions of the album - and would give people another reason(apart from the fact that it's a great track)to buy it - just like the days when the beatles had singles that were not on the albums (in britain)- value for money too! I'm thinking "Nobody Wants To". Around here, where I hear CH the most is in the supermarket. That sounds like a great supermarket song to me; I'd love to buy my groceries humming along to it! It's a very catchy tune and I think it's quite radio-friendly.

My personal favorite on TOE is "Silent House", but it's a long song, and co-written with the Dixie Chicks, so maybe not the best choice for a single.

For me, the natural song to release as a single is Even a Child. I know that it's not too popular around here, I guess because it has a strong Johnny Marr influence and therefore sounds less like Neil/Crowded House than the rest of the album. Maybe so. But it's also the most immediately commercial song on the album. The other songs that are often named as potential singles--Nobody Wants To, Pour Le Monde--are songs for the fans, not for the broader public, I think.

I agree,i think Even A child is the only song left that could be released as a single for the general public and not just the fans.

Neil emails me about the possible third single, nice to hear from him. I try not to email him while he is on the road as it is a nightmare when you are on that tour bus. He sounds good, so i guess the Crowded House project is still a very positive thing. Must be nice having a few weeks off.

Exciting! I would have to vote for "Walked Her Way Down" too... I don't think "Even A Child" is a good choice - as someone said on this forum once, it sounds a little bit Phil Collins-y...

i don't get the suggested similarity with phil collins.to be honest i think joan collins sounds more reminicent of even a child than phil.(sorry i've had a couple of glasses of red wine Smiler)
instrumentally and chordally , i think it sounds more like REM.
I also believe "Even a Child" is the best choice for a single. "Pour le Monde", possibly, with a political tie-in.

A remix (as opposed to a dance mix) would probably help sell the thing to people who already have the album.

But I also agree that further "singles" at this point in time probably won't serve much of a purpose. Which is too bad - I like collecting them.
