Ok, hope that works. If it doesn't, i'm blaming the Grinch. I'll get Rockin' Santa to sort him out. Wink

I was watching really closely as i was convinced they were miming. It sounded so good and so near to how CH would do it.

Anyway, i live in hope

I was right at the front and I must admit the sound was so good I also wondered that initially - but I'm pretty confident they were not miming for a couple of reasons :

1) those drums were getting beaten for real! Hard to fake.
2) I could see John's fingering and he was definitely playing the right chords
3) The vocals weren't quite right (nothing wrong with them, it just wasn't Neil's voice)
4) When they finished John set a loop going while he handed Neil his guitar - Nick picked up the bass really quickly so there was hardly a gap but there was a noticeable gap on the guitar line.

Er...geek? Moi?

Don't have any video to share, sorry, too busy living it. Smiler

Whereas Matt "playing guitar" as Santa was definitely miming, with Mark playing offstage.
Wow - what a night and what an end to a fantastic "Crowdies" year!

Firstly - Suz - hello back and Kimmy - Ignore Jim C, he still thinks he has a sense of humour Big Grin It was me you and your hubby met at Wembley, the photo on my phone is my boy with Neil, who he met in Paris. I had to drive back to Leeds after the most stunning time at Wembley, arrived in bleary eyed at around 530am - anyway, it was good to meet you!

The RAH was fantastic, front row seats and we had just the best time - I saw the girls mentioned too, man, imagine the cheek of them getting into the party vibe!? come on guys, its things like the security guys at Wembley that spoil shows, not fans wanting a good time - I am sure they wouldn't have bitten your heads off if you kindly asked them not to hold up the signs?

All around me was a party atmosphere from the off, party poppers and streamers and when Val threw the hats on stage for Neil and Nick it just got better - what a great setlist too, so many memories - In the Lowlands - my god, I nearly died - not heard that on the tour so far. Good vibe all around & I am claiming the Pineapple head clapping that got going at both Wembley and the RAH by the way - man, that takes concentration to get the timing right!

Great to see Matt let loose too, about time in my book and how brilliant was that Private Universe - the best of the tour! Well, here is to 2008 and some new music - and to all the really nice folk I personally have met on the tour, thank you for your kindness and hope to see you again soon...

Man what a show.

The best i have seen i think.

In terms of banter, aside from the Nick Seymour catwalk sashay (sp?) early on, I got the sense that both Neil (explicitly, given his 'full circle' and 'it all started here 2 1/2 years ago' remarks) and Nick (implicitly by dint of the fact he seemed quieter than normal) were in quite a reflective mood which is understandable given the circumstances in which they last found themselves on that stage in that venue.

(The moment early on during FSIOD when Neil addressed the Hall 'unplugged' really brought back the memories of that evening in March)

Notwithstanding all that, it was clear both band and crowd were having a great time, and I feel (as Neil would say) blessed to have been able to see them finish the tour on such a fantastic evening.

I'm glad you mentioned those quotes, as I was wondering if that was part of the reason for ending at RAH. Quite an amazing 'full circle' for them since March 05. There was no need for Neil to say any more than that, either. Along with the noted inclusion of "A Sigh" in the setlist (how's that for circumspect! Wow...), playing an amazing show and having a grand time and the end of their tour is a lovely and fitting way to honor Paul and still maintain the celebration of the occasion.

Hoping to see videos soon so the rest of us can join in from home!

Also have to say, what a lovely birthday week for Nick, who never wanted CH to break up back in the day. Reunited w/ the band, playing to a sold-out crowd at Wembley, gets to see Led Zeppelin the next night, then caps it all off with all the emotion a final show of the tour "where it all started" at RAH. That's big - HUGE. Very pleased for him, especially.

And one more wondering...we know Matt didn't know much about CH, the history, the fan base, etc. before joining. Other than just wanting to play, I wonder what his impressions are of the whole experience. He's really amazing, and the guys seem to love him, so I hope he stays with them (and us!).

Hi there,

Agree with most of these observations re: the full circle, especially since I was at the Wednesday show 2.5 years ago. Anyway, just wondering if anyone saw a silhouette in white of a male figure painted on something behind Nick. Sort of made me think it was a slight nod to Paul keeping an eye on the boys or am I just imaging things?

Back to the show - great energy and as usual, just so good natured. I always come out feeling so happy after a CH/Finn show. For me, the look of the band looking so happy at seeing the roadies play was fabulous.

Agree with all of the above. The guys were playing for real, I am pretty sure of it! Whereas Matt definitely wasn't- he never moved his fingers! But it was great fun, all of it! And I think it was about time that John Walsh got his 16 minutes of fame! Wink

I didn't know those hats were yours, Valb! They were marvellous!

As for the partypoppers... I must have done something wrong. All that happened when I pulled the little cord, was a very soft 'plop'....and 2 or 3 strands of paper landed on stage. Frowner We were so close to Mark that I could have touched him, (no, I didn't!!) and he never even noticed... Sorry Coogee!!

Ascha

The reindeer antlers were courtesy of my nearly 3 yr old daughter (who doesn't know they've gone yet!) - mummy pinched them to take along to get into the festive spirit.

Once the santa hats went up, I thought, what the heck and sent them on stage. Matt would have looked fabulous in them! I guess they didn't stay on Mark's head too long as they would have been a bit tight!

Anyone out there got a good photo of them on Mark's head???

What a great night!!!

Rachel

and the crew band were amazing (anyone else think that they really had absorbed the band dynamic as they sounded just like the real thing! Wink )

quote taken from my post on page 3, wondered if anyone else would run with this.

I'm in the "I think they were miming" camp. To my ear the vocals sounded just too like Neil and I saw Nick's counterpart stumble over his words at one point but his backing vocal line carried on. I think it was amazing fun and looked pretty damn good - but I think there was some japery and hoodwinkery going on. (I was on the RAH guided tour earlier and they were running a live recording of the song through the system at that point).

Wonder if anyone "official" will answer this once and for all or maybe it will be one of those hot topics that will run forever and we'll still be debating it as 90 year old frenz! Big GrinBig Grin

It is one occasion though where I will be quite happy if I am proved to be wrong Smiler
Gasp, so Santa may not have been playing that guitar either???? Arghhh...my faith has been seriously damaged....

More seriously, with all of these video clips appearing on youtube is anyone able to capture them and help start a tree or similar so that we can all relive an amazing night?

Regards

Jim

I second that Battylad. The idea was to have a bit of fun which was obviously on the boys mind too as Max The Shredder showed. Just think If ValB had not come prepared with the hats or Rachel Rolfe her antlers,we would not have such memorable photos of the guys:0.

How cool to say you were at that show at all!!!
Three cheers Battylad and usaoz89, very well said. I love it that these ladies were in the(unleaded I might add )party spirit and added to the vibe of the night, I would much rather be near or next to happy, fun fans like them than the rude people I have met at shows who poke jab and swear beacuase someone was clapping too loud Eeker

Has'nt Neil said he likes there to be something that stands out at each show to make it memorable. I think this all sounds very sweet and if a small sheet of paper is blocking someones view, surely we are all adult enough to politely ask them to lower it
Fantastic show, interesting setlist - not much more to say except I have had the time of my life the last two and a half weeks going to all but three of the concerts, RAH was such a party. I had partypoppers but sadly left them in the car and was right jealous of anyone else who had any or were wearing silly head dresses. I am with Batty in that going to a CH concert is an event if you know them and love them the way people who post on this and other sites do, to celebrate with them is a very necessary thing - I personally loved the boppers etc and banners go up and down in the same way that peoples heads and shoulders move in and out of your way. Please direct criticism at security stopping us from having fun, not fellow fans helping make the atmosphere a happy and memorable one. Here is a posting of all of the Santa hats and if you look hard you can see Mark wearing the antlers.

I have tried (by reading all the posts I can on this forum and others, to put the set list together (as played). I am not totally convinced it is correct (a couple of songs may be in the wrong places, but is is difficult to remember the exact order when you are enjoying the evening so much!) but here goes:

Recurring Dream
Say That Again
Four Seasons in one Day (part sang acapella by the crowd and Neil)
Pour Le Monde
In The Lowlands
You Are The One
Hole In The River (faded with The Parting Glass)
Nails in My Feet
A Sigh
Matt in Santa Outfit (pretending to be playing guitar, really played by Mark off-stage)
Pineapple Head
Italian Plastic
Don’t Dream It’s Over
It’ Only natural (first half played by the crew band)
Don’t Stop Now
Distant Sun

First encore:

Chocolate Cake
Into temptation
Private Universe

Second encore:

Message to my Girl (sung down the phone by Neil to Sharon?)
Mean To Me (with the two horn players from Duke Special)
Transit Lounge (with Beth Rowley on vocals)
Something so strong
Better be home soon (sung with no lights on)

Grateful if anyone else that was there can correct my mistakes.

There are also 14-15 different tracks that now have videos on youtube (just search for "crowded house albert hall") so maybe we could put together our own video of the show Smiler

Andrew

(now off to find out how to download youtube videos to pur together as a dvd!)
Ahhh well it was really nice to meet you batty lad, the pic on your phone made me a bit broody!
In days gone by I would have been right with you down at the front and wanting to get up and boogie, but I'm a wee bit more subdued now or maybe more easily embarrassed!
Either way twas good to meet you, you are prob the first person I've met on this forum! Hope that you got home safely..
OK I think the encores should be:

First encore:

Chocolate Cake
Message to my Girl (sung down the phone by Neil to Sharon?)
Private Universe

Second encore:

Mean To Me (with the two horn players from Duke Special)
Transit Lounge (with Beth Rowley on vocals)
Something so strong
Into temptation

Reading all these posts still makes me relive Tuesday night. How great a night it was! Smiler I keep seeing paper airplanes flying through the hall and on the stage, Nick making Neil and Matt wearing those Christmas hats, Mark with the deer-ears (or what are those called again?), the guys rushing two rows behind me to return to the stage all with a smile on their face... Smiler

I was so enjoying everything, that I have absolutely no idea of the order of the songs, except for the first (RD) and the last (BBHS), so thanks Andrew B and others for the efforts to put it together.
Its quite possible that the roadies and instrument techs can play that song standing on their heads. After all they set up the instuments and rig year in, year out, in order that those songs sound perfect. It stands to reason that they are all accomplished musicians

My nagging doubt is that if you watch the drummer on the clip some of the fills you hear don't seem to fit with the actions he's making.......or is that just the camera angle????

Don't you love a conspiracy ! Smiler

The gun comment is not appropriate for this forum. Please remember this forum is "G" rated and has several young readers, not to mention adults who may be sensitive to that remark.
