It looks like there may not be a physical release for ‘Pour Le Monde’ in the UK. Here is the official notification :

“‘Pour le Monde’, the third single to be taken from critically-acclaimed album ‘Time on Earth’, will be released on 10 December. Already a highlight of the band’s live set on their current world tour and promising to become a classic Crowded House track, ‘Pour Le Monde’ has been remixed by long time Crowded House collaborator Bob Clearmountain.

The digital bundle also includes live versions of Crowded House classic ‘Something So Strong’ and the haunting ‘You Are The One To Make Me Cry’ (from ‘Time On Earth’) recorded on the band’s North American tour last summer. The iTunes exclusive bundle includes ‘Pour Le Monde’ live from the ITunes Festival, recorded at London’s ICA in June.

Standard Digital Bundle:
1. Pour Le Monde (Full Length Radio Mix)
2. Something So Strong (Live In North America)
3. You Are The One To Make Me Cry (Live In North America)

iTunes Exclusive Bundle:
1. Pour Le Monde (Live At The Itunes Festival)
2. Pour Le Monde (Full Length Radio Mix)
3. Something So Strong (Live In North America)
4. You Are The One To Make Me Cry (Live In North America)”

Interestingly there is no place for the Radio Edit (3:52) featured on the promo CD-R and official promo (MONDE 001). The full length version clocks in at 5:03.

Trainspotters section :

Tchad Blake originally mixed the track and on TOE it runs for 5:10 according to my player.

Oddly my player times the edited version on the official promo at 4:07 and the full remixed version at 5:05.

The promo CD-R clocks in at 4:05 and 5:02 respectively.

BTW the official e-mail also informs us about the UK tour live CDs and the green initiatives undertaken by the band for the tour (it is carbon neutral).

Regards

Jim

It seems odd that there's no mention of a physical release. My guess is that it means there won't be one. After the She Called Up debacle I can't say I'm suprised.

Jim, I think that the timing differences between the CDR and official promos are merely due to CD mastering rather than any musical differences. Glad I picked up a copy to get the short radio edit.

Concert Live are selling a download of the single, not a CD (I believe it's via 7Digital). I was hoping that's because they have to make the bundles available before the single is released, but it's looking like there isn't a CD. I must get over this need to own a circular piece of plastic!

I doubt this'll quell your anger, but er, why should the UK company consider Australia?

Parlophone are the UK company, not the Australian one. They only deal with UK releases so it would make sense for them to not concern themselves with the Australian market. And Yet again, it's probably worth me mentioning that the press release quoted at the start of the thread should only be taken as read if you live in the UK. If you live anywhere else, you might get something different.
Agree, it doesn't feel right unless there's a physical single! Fits in the the band's greening initiative this tour though...

Still hope we can get this one into the charts after the failure (and complete non-promotion) of She Called Up to even enter the lower reaches of the top 100.

Pour le Monde deserves to do well this Christmas, so it's a good one to get behind. Hopefully the plugs it's been getting during the tour, etc, and on Radio 2 should help this time.

To make a dent in the charts, if you're downloading on-line, make sure you purchase the entire "digital bundle" - i.e. Pour le Monde and the bonus tracks in the same transaction. Buying Pour le Monde on its own or just the bonus tracks, doesn't count to the best of my knowledge.

Come on everyone, let's get behind PLM and get it into the charts for Christmas!!!

Would still love a piece of plastic to go in the collection though!!

No, buying the track on its own does count towards the UK singles chart, as does buying the full bundle. If you just buy the bsides, that doesn't count.
Well, from my experience it seems that Apple devices appear to have exclusive rights to iTunes. It really seems like the majority of people own an Apple iPod so I must be one of the very few who owns a different brand. In my opinion I just don't think it's compatible. Believe me I've tried, but it just doesn't work.

At least I'm supporting the single in some way by purchasing the bundle available with the UK tour recordings.

Ash, you don't need to have an iPod to have iTunes. Just download iTunes and you can use it as a media player on your PC, it doesn't matter if your mp3 player isn't compatible. If nothing else it's an excellent storage facility!

Then you don't have an iPod you have another brand of MP3 player. iPod just refers to apples own MP3 players, not any MP3 player.

You can use itunes and get tracks on to something other than ipod. Either use iTunes plus, no DRM (As CH are on EMI, their tracks are released through iTunes Plus), or simply burn the tracks to disc and then re-rip them to your computer. You can change the file format then and transfer them to whatever device you want.
Ahhh, thanks Mrs HP! Smiler

I'm as technically challenged as always! Good thing this computer is headed for the rubbish heap sometime soon with a replacement not far behind.

I think I'll investigate iTunes more thoroughly when I have a reliable machine...

I just can't wait to hear all of the UK recordings AND this single! Big Grin

PS: Thanks for the advice Sara. I'm sure I'll use it in the future.

And with the arena gigs that seems likely to rise even more.

Gigs have little to no impact on the airplay charts. Playlists do and the track is alist at Radio 2.

It's 13 in the midweek singles chart however.

Obviously, the final position will be way below that (cos we all buy first thing) but it'll be interesting to get a feel for how far it's likely to fall.

It's a bit of a different situation with downloads though. We could even consider downloading again :-) And possibly some people have still got to use their voucher codes with the live CDs? You never know, the chart placing could stay reasonably high (fingers crossed!)

Paul - not that high. It's two weeks before christmas and the charts are currently very strong.

re: downloading again... Be very, very careful. If you do it several times in quick succession, it'll be noticed and the sales discounted.

That's ok, I didn't mean multi-downloading. I was just thinking that for the cost of 79p for PLM, or even £1.99 for the album, you could download different versions a couple of times during the week. It would be nice to see CH in the top 20 again!

With gigs showing public interest in the band, giving the radio pluggers a hook to talk the radio stations into playing the track more often, and keep the high roation up longer I'd say it has impact. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if some of the music programmers on Radio 2 got tickets to the Wembly gigs as a gift.

With a 13 in midweeks it seems likely to become the first top 40 single from ToE, right? Maybe even top 30.

It doesn't work like that. The playlists closed for Christmas last week, anything on it will be played from now till christmas day when theres a reshuffle, then on again till the first or second week of Jan, when the playlists reopen. If you're on the alist, you get high rotation. Radio pluggers can't do anything to make them play it more than they already will be, gigs won't change that.

No, I think DSN went top 40.
