Out Of Silence - Gold Coast

Just back from tonight's show at the Home Of The Arts on the Gold Coast and needed to say...WOW!

I had been to the Out of Silence show at the Sydney Opera House a few weeks ago and I must admit to have being pretty disappointed. Neil was obviously struggling with illness at the time and was not at his best (not his fault), and the set list was somewhat disappointing, leaning heavily on new Neil and Liam songs and Dizzy Heights material. Although I thought that Out of Silence sounded spectacular live, l had thought that it was a little bit of a wasted opportunity that the rest of the set hadn't included more of the wonderful symphonic interpretations of Neil classics or, otherwise, interesting new interpretations of some fan favourites (such as anything from Try Whistling This or One Nil, or some of the more obscure Crowded House songs).

Tonight, I was simply blown away. I have seen Neil many many times (5 times this year alone) but when that extra choir of 100 odd voices came out to the stage for the final few songs, it was clear that tonight was something very very special. And Neil himself has never sounded better and was in truly fine form (and clearly having a wonderful time). What an incredible venue for a truly spectacular performance. With the Out of Silence choir and orchestra, there must have been close to 200 musicians on stage. Thank you to each and every one of you.

And thanks, of course, to Neil for providing the songs.

I hope there were other Frenz there that got to enjoy the show??

Sounds like it was Finntastic

After hearing many of the new songs live on the Neil and Liam tour last summer I was happy to see them get the symphony treatment at the Opera House. It endeared them to me further.

Happy you got to see Edible Flowers as it was brilliantly done and brought a tear to my eye when I saw it back in 2015. I bet Weather with you would have been exquisite.

The Pub Choir movement is amazing. I so love it when Neil takes notice of things and incorporates it in his gigs.

I am certain to that there was a conversation on social media about *Voices*and he played it.

All more reasons to love him

Will be patiently waiting to see how the FM gig goes.

I do recall a similar conversation   Unfortunately he started edible flowers and I was lining up at the cubicles at this point    So broke the law, made my way to the handicapped cubicles and raced out to the stage.  Only caught the last sentence of the song      So if anyone filmed the entire song please please please send it to me

We were there and like you have been to many of his shows this year alone   The previous years held us back by more than just health issues (a story for another time).

I have to say they were much more relaxed than the Sydney Opera House show possibly happy hour the night before had something to do with it but that goes without saying the venue makes a big difference. What a venue it was too! Huge! This show seemed very bitter sweet to me in more ways than one.  It would mean Fleetwood Mac shows would be out of our reach, possibly the end of an era, (making way for the new),  but BBHS was just emotionally packed.  Anyone else felt this?

My favourite was the OOS songs, Elroy did an amazing job filling in for big bro and should rightly be noted as the next up and coming to watch.

Besides myself there were another 4 Frenz that attended I know of .

Disappointing that the UK got nothing live-wise for 'Out Of Silence'.  I personally think it's Neil's best work for years.

I agree. And totally dissapointed with decision that album didnt get almost any touring and promoting outside NZ... Consequence of all of that (and many other things ofcourse) is that new single from Neil&Liam "Back to life" has only 10.000 views on youtube in almost two weeks... I have a feeling if I video myself washing hair, I would get more attention than that.

I wonder: when and why Neil became so unpopular??? Are we here alone in universe?

Wasn't there a US "Out of Silence" show scheduled all the way in 2019 at one point, before the FM tour? I think before he joined FM it was reasonably likely we'd be seeing a Light Sleeper tour with scattered OOS dates wherever it was practical to hire strings/a choir.

Agree with you that it's one of his best.
