I picked up an interesting item recently, the Canadian re-issue of "Frenzy". It was already my favourite Split Enz album, but this version gives it a new twist. It took a few listens to get my ears used to the new mixes, and Tim dedicating "Stuff and nonsense" to the All-blacks, but neither of these changes spoil Tim's finest moment or any of the songs. Of most interest however is the b-side of the record, where the greatest changes have taken place, namely the inclusion of 4 new songs. People will already be familiar with the song "Semi-detached" (from the "Spellbound" album), with it's classic line, "in my garden, cats entreat me", but for me the stand-out is Neil's "Carried away" which is a loud boisterous song with an exquisite soft centre, where the guitars and drums give way to gentle piano and Neil's dreamy vocals.
I thoroughly recommend people look out for this one in secondhand stores. This is definitely the most exciting Finn related purchase I've made in a long time.
Si.
