I was wondering whether anyone knew more about how this came to pass, and whether this is somewhat „official“ resp. done with Neil‘s approval?

It's an unoffical biography by Australian writer Jeff Apter who churns out biographies on Australian music identities. He's done similar ones on Keith Urban, Bon Scott, John Farnham, the Bee Gees etc. I had a quick browse through it at my local book store and wasn't tempted to buy - it looked like regurgitated press cuttings from the last 40 years. Like a lot of these sort of books it's once over lightly and not much insight.

Well the book was fact checked by Peter Green who also provided many photos that appear in the book. He's been really positive about the book on Facebook.
Knowing how close Peter is to Neil, Tim and all the Enz/Crowdies members he wouldn't be supporting the book if Neil wasn't ok with it.
I reluctantly bought this book from BigW (Cheaper) as I was not sure what to expect as the Finn Brothers book was not well received due to having a lot of re-hashed interviews from the past whether it be from magazines or whatever. I have taken a step back from collecting everything Enz related but this book is not bad.
I am currently up to chapter 10 and I am enjoying the read so far. It gives an insight into Neil's way of thinking especially his early years while Tim was already up & running. You can see Neil was driven motivationally to succeed while Tim was plugging away also trying to reach greater heights.
I recently went on my first trip overseas to NZ in Feb 2023 and I could see why a lot of NZer's come over to Australia to live which makes me think of what life was like for people back in the 70's & 80's (living in NZ) trying to make a better life for themselves.
Don't get me wrong, I think NZ is a very beautiful peaceful country, however, NZ clearly is a step behind Australia in terms of Shopping Centres & variety. But I would recommend to anyone to take a trip to NZ. Much more peaceful and the driving (on the roads) is very relaxing & simple until you get to Auckland.
But, saying that, the book is good & I am happy to recommend it for a read.

I heard from Jeff today & his Neil Finn book is out in the UK in the new year.
I notice it has a different cover to the Oz release. It’s out in Feb 2024 thru Jawbone Press
