Neil & Liam UK/Europe Tour

I guess everyone has seen the email and/or post that Neil and Liam are doing a short tour of the UK and Europe in January?

I was surprised to see it!

After I saw that, I wondered if that meant they would make it to NY eventually.  But looking at the Fleetwood Mac tour schedule, January is the only break for FM from early October to early April, so I guess it’s not very likely.  But I am holding out hope for a one-off date in NY.  Prior to the notice of this January tour with Liam I thought it would be completely off the cards.

Neil is going to be exhausted from being on the road from October all the way through till April!

Original Post

I'm over the moon!!! They've chosen great cities, in my opinion - the ones with notoriously loyal and enthusiastic Finn followers. Finally we in the Old World get Neil live again, it's been a while.

I'm not too worried about his hectic schedule - he's done stints in the UK in the middle of other stuff before, and it seemed like a welcome break from something entirely different. I'm looking forward to seeing his happy face, when he hears the audience go along with whatever song he puts forward - the new, old, obscure, and the random ones. And the banter.

Can't wait!

Got tickets for Edinburgh, and it's on the last day of my 30s, so it gives me something to look forward to as I dread the following day!  I'm really enjoying the album, and look forward to seeing it live. Looking at previous set lists, it looks like they could be some pretty relaxed and varied shows.

I've got Birmingham and Bristol, which should make for a very nice weekend indeed. The Birmingham tickets went fast!

(Shame London's on a Tuesday - not good for someone currently teaching on the continent with an early Wednesday morning class, although I accept that is too small a demographic to matter to anyone but me ;-))

Has anyone ever been to Birmingham? This venue is allowing kids and I'd like to take my 7 year old son, wish I'd realised earlier as now only back of stalls or half way up circle is available.

Been told stalls are flat so thinking this is out even if he can stand on a chair if back row. Be interested if anyone can tell what the view from mid circle might be like?

Really want him to have his first Finn experience but not if he can't see!

Thanks

Looking forward to Edinburgh a great deal after seeing some set lists that have been posted. As I've mentioned on the other thread , light sleeper isn't grabbing me enough to sustain an entire gig. Great cross section of Neil's career on these sets though

The first Liverpool show was excellent, the Finns on great form. Neil said it was the first time they've done a show with just the 4 Finns in the band (himself, Liam, Elroy and Sharon).

I enjoyed hearing the Lightsleeper songs the most, there were 7 in total played, mixed in with lots of familiar songs.  And great to hear a track from Out of Silence (Chameleon Days). They played for the best part of two hours, with the Finns swapping instruments for different songs. Good banter as always with each other and with the crowd.

Neil and Liam (accompanied by Elroy on guitar) did a brilliant version of the Beatles' 'Julia' from the White Album at the end of the encore to finish, which was well appreciated by the Liverpool crowd.

Also Pablo Vasquez were an excellent opening act, setting the mood nicely. I got their CD at the merchandise stall. Jol from Pablo Vasquez also joined the Finns towards the end of the set.

The Epstein Theatre is a fine venue, a smaller space than I expected which suited the show.

Here's the setlist (avoid if you don't want any spoilers for the rest of the tour!):-

I got some photos too which I'll try and post sometime soon.

Thanks for posting the video link, Finnbear - thats from the show I went to on the first Liverpool night.  I don't think they did it again on the second night, when I looked at the setlist.

As for timings in Liverpool, Pablo Vasquez were on just after 745ish, and the Finns came on at 845.

Edinburgh was just amazing ! I have a new appreciation for the Lightsleeper material having heard it live .  Better to be from Liam was great too - need to dig out that cd ...

such incredible sound quality - the queens hall really is superb !

Neils voice sounded incredible , and the band were spot on . What a mega talented family !

Took the flight from Denmark to attend the second Liverpool show. We were lucky enough to get tickets for the first aswell. Both great, and Neil's voice sounded awesome combined with Liam's. Dunno which show I prefered, they were quite similar, not like Crowded House shows that had more variations in setlist from day to day. They messed up English Trees both evenings, I guess that's why they removed it in Dublin. I know Lightsleeper didn't get the best reviews, but I really like that album, and think it's the best Neil has done since Time On Earth, and the Lighsleeper songs sounded great live, Meet Me In the Air in particular, which also is my favourite on the album. I would have prefered some greats from the 00's like Hole in the Ice, Edible Flowers, Wherever You Are, Into the Sunset, instead of the songs from Pajama Club to Out of Silence (which in my opinion is the weakest in Neil's career). But all in all great shows. I really love the opening track, the Split Enz's song Sweet Dreams, which sounds awesome by Liam & Neil, and they should record it. 5/6. Go see them!

Does anyone know what time the London shows are likely to finish? The tour adverts mark it from 7 til 11 but reading above, it sounds as though they tend to come on before 9 and are off by 10:30?

I have a fair journey to take after complicated by possible bad weather and just want to get my self organised..

Cheers

Nick

Amazing stuff!  Any chance you  have footage of "Listen"?

Hackney last night was amazing. I thought Neil's voice was as good as I've ever heard it, thought the set and mix of songs were great, really enjoyed Liam's songs as well and felt there was a really super vibe. A great gig, a great day out and as good a 'Finn' show as I've seen.

Have to say, I really liked Pablo Vaquez, VERY VERY chilled indeed.

Hoping they'll and/or Neil will be back again soon :-)

There’s are few on offer on Facebook in the group “Finn Brothers Appreciation Society”

We have to go to Facebook now?  I thought here was where we went so we didn't have to go to Tongue In The Mail any more?

(I must have been younger then)
