Hehhehehehehe....I have a story about Muriel's Wedding! My good friend told me that I should see it, cuz she thought I'd like it....me being the "quirky" girl that I am! Hmmppf! Quirky, eh? lol Anyways, the next night, I'm in my kitchen making a sandwich or something, and my hubby is watching TV.....I can hear the movie he's watching, and I SWEAR that every other word is MURIEL!! So I yell from the kitchen, "OMG....tell them to STOP SAYING MURIEL!!" So I go in with my food and start watching, and 20 minutes or so goes by and this "Muriel" person starts trying on wedding dresses. Then it FINALLY clicks: this is Muriel's Wedding! I'd told Chris that we needed to rent it, so when he saw it starting on HBO, he thought he'd just turn it on and wait till I figured it out! lol.....

Yeah, good flick though.......as is Priscilla! We should have a Frenz Film Feztival!

Hey, I was just talking about Priscilla in another thread, great minds and all that, eh?
I love Muriel's Wedding, but the Mum character (and everything that befalls her) always breaks my heart. And Bill Hunter...what's the deal with him? Is he the Gene Hackman of Australian film (you know, he's in every movie, but sometimes you just can't see him?)

Hahahhaahhaha....wuntie, I was thinking the same thing about Bill Hunter, I just never made the "Gene Hackman" connection!! lol Hilarious!! There's a Robyn Hitchcock song to that effect....You MUST hear it!

Yes, Rachel Griffiths is wonderful and I think that Toni Collette is very consistent as well.

When I first saw the film what happened re the Mum character really shocked me. I didn't expect it, I guess I thought it would take the cheesy storyline course and it didn't.

Yip I also watched Muriel's Wedding that evening, I can't remember how often I've seen it now but I still enjoy it. Also saw on Sky a couple of nights ago Shirley Valentine, absolutely brilliant! Particularly love that scene where her daughter doesn't approve of Shirley going on holiday to Greece, she's hanging out the window shouting...

"that's right Milandra I'm going to Greece for the sex, sex for breakfast, sex for lunch and sex for dinner!"
A guy in the street replies "sounds like a great diet love"
Shirley answers "yeah it's called the F plan!"

This is the most recent stuff I can find re Toni. If you haven't seen about a boy go rent it. She's fab in it....of course!

Thanks for the link, Ingrid...I loved "About A Boy" and have made it my mission to get everyone to see it (my DVD copy has been loaned out like 10x). Hugh Grant's performance is great...his first in years that did not get up my arse.

I wouldn't recommend that movie though. The acting is good but don't see it when you are depressed...(I'm sure the book is good, but as a movie it was horrible. These women are depressed and you don't know why so I just didn't care!)

I was also awed and amazed by Hugh Grant in "...Boy". And I am a major Hugh Grant fan, even though the men in my family refer to him as "that blinky pale English dude." They're all Philistines. Hmpf.
