"Nobody wants to" comes to mind immediately for me. I think it's a beautiful little gem. I also love "In the Lowlands", both musically and lyrically. There's so much going on in this song.

I agree with you on Pinenapple Head being underrated. It seems a silly little singalong song at first, but it's so well crafted.

For those that haven't read it, our beloved Axver attempted to rank EVERY A-side Crowded House song from the 6 albums, Afterglow and Recurring Dream Best of:
https://rateyourmusic.com/list...wded-house-ranked/1/
It motivated me to make one of my own. Whilst it seems pointless, overly technical and subject to constant change, it was actually a very fun journey to go on. It really got me thinking about what I do and don't love about every song and deepened my appreciation of their entire catalogue.

For the purpose of this thread, I will just note some high-ranking songs from my list that I would consider 'underrated'.

4. Catherine Wheels
9. Tombstone
11. Black & White Boy
12. I Am In Love
14. Sacred Cow
15. Anyone Can Tell
22. In the Lowlands
25. You Can Touch
29. Tall Trees
31. Dr Livingstone
32. Say That Again
33. Fame Is
34. Walked Her Way Down
35. Even A Chlid

I have left out some very high-ranking songs like Recurring Dream, Kare Kare, She Goes On and Archer's Arrows because I feel like they are already held in high regard by many fans, despite not being household songs.

Yeah I've seen Axver's. Do you have your list? I'd love to see it!

Sure! This would almost warrant a separate thread, because it's always a fun conversation starter. Some people are bewildered that their favourite song ranks so low, others are happy that somebody else shares an obscure favourite of theirs, but it always makes for spirited discussion. 3) I Feel Posssesed

4) Italian Plastic

5) Better Be Home Soon

6) Even A Child

7) How Will You Go

8) Kare Kare

9) Twice If You're Lucky

10) Weather With You

It's pretty painstaking and time-consuming. To start out, I just positioned them roughly on the list depending on how much I like them. Then I worked through the list head-to-head (1st vs 2nd, 2nd vs 3rd etc) and whenever I preferred the lower song, it would keep moving up until it 'lost'. I found the more different two songs are, the harder they are to compare. Think about Now We're Getting Somewhere and Help Is Coming. I love both of them but the sound, atmosphere and mood are polar opposites. When you love them in different ways, it's hard to pick a winner.

You've got some wonderful songs there. Looks like the biggest climbers compared to mine are Italian Plastic, BBHS and How Will You Go. I quite like all three of them, they were just victims of how consistently great the band is. I'd say the first two suffer from bland or stunted verses which fail to do justice for pretty memorable choruses. How Will You Go holds up better to frequent listens and it could easily be a career-defining single for most pop songwriters. The fact it feels like 'just another strong track' to me is testament to the talent of the Finns.

Is there anything else that you found surprisingly high or low on my list?

All so subjective but Fall at your feet at 51 is.... Controversial!

My underated tune is always Tombstone. It starts with the greatest lyrics of any song. In fact the sequence Can't carry on => I walk away => Tombstone is just a perfect sequence.

That's my favourite stretch of the album. What makes it all the more curious is that Tombstone is an extremely crowd-friendly, singalong type of song. I can understand that atmospheric, moody masterpieces like Catherine Wheels and Kare Kare are not built for radio. But Tombstone? It could easily be an all-time classic pop-rock song in a parallel universe. I mean it just oozes 'mega-hit'.

Looking at the track listing, those gems towards the back of the album may have simply been victims of the sheer number of hits that precede them. When you have Mean to Me, World Where You Live, Now We're Getting Somewhere, Don't Dream It's Over and Something So Strong within the first 6 tracks, the others will be lost in the shuffle. All 5 of those songs were released as singles and it was probably too difficult to get any others on to the airwaves with so much already going out there.

Personally if it makes any sense whatsover, I like the songs on 'Crowded House' but not the album. For me all the songs blur into one and I can't tell them apart. Not sure if anyone else has this problem or has an album that makes them feel the same way.
