Great to hear something kind of tangible from Neil...the 'very final stages of mixing' sounds to me like his album's completion is imminent and inevitable. At least, he's probably past the point of deciding to redo half of it.
This project has me the most excited since Crowded House reformed. It's only the third solo album and I'm sure the partnership with Dave Fridmann has illuminated new, fresh facets of Neil's music we've not heard before. Plus, the whole 'family band' aspect...
I wonder what happened to the wonderful relationship with Universal Music? Did it not survive post Intriguer?
The other point that I found disheartening is that he said that the CD will not come out until NEXT year. So much for anything new from CH.
To be fair, I think for a while we had been hearing "late 2013" for Neil's album. So early next year is only a few months of a delay...pretty good, historically speaking.
The thing what disturbs me is this gives Neil another six months of studio tinkering with those songs! In the meantime Neil get on the road with your brother, Crowded House, your son or even your dry cleaner... and for Gods sake leave those bloody songs alone.
Don't get me wrong, I am eagerly awaiting to hear this new music. But, I thought that this album was recorded like LAST year. Yeah I know that there is mixing, etc. but that should have been completed by now. I honestly have NO idea what Neil is still doing in the studio. OK, there was some record company crap that caused a delay in the release that is beyond his control. At this rate, this solo music had better be spectacular. Then if Neil decides that his next project is CH, he won't get to that until at least 2015. They probably won't finish that album until 2016. At this point, they will probably be in search of a record company, AGAIN. This means no CH until at least 2017, if we are lucky. I'm sorry, I think Macca at the age of 71 is more productive than this.
Yeah, but Macca's crap these days though - characterless session muso sound / set up - elongated drum fills instead of Ringo charm, etc. He's a pastiche of himself.
We know Neil was still recording this year because of some of his tweets, about, for example, multiple guitar takes.
And did anyone seriously believe this album would be out this year? I didn't. NF's release dates are ALWAYS later than originally planned, right?
Anyway, I'm sure it'll be worth the wait..
That top paragraph there, in my last post - that's just my opinion. I'm not trying to wind anyone up

We hardly know anything other than the occasional tweet of 140 characters or less. In regards to the story of Neil's new solo album, we've got like a 5% picture of what's going on. So it's no use to make big presumptions about what should be done or not done, etc. I know it's frustrating though.
Crowded House has already done work toward a new album, with Nick Launay producing. I remember reading it was 40% done, but apparently it was put on the back burner. My feeling is that we'll be lucky if we get one more Crowded House record, however long it takes, and that will probably be the last one ever. Just my gut feeling that whatever energy prompted the reunion may have run its course.
My fear, Slowpogo, is that you may very well be right and that is why I am so frustrated with Neil. As for what CH may have already recorded, there may be no guarantee that they would actually end up using it. My bet is that they would probably end up starting from scratch. I know I should be excited about Neil's news but it is actually not what I really wanted to hear. It still leaves things so up in the air.
No Neil was still working on songs this year . I'd say the usual thing with record companies when it's a fresh signing they tend to avoid that Nov-Dec Christmas best Of period- and go for a fresh release after Dec. That would play a huge part.
Can't please everyone but he's just happy for those who love his solo stuff to enjoy it.
As always we will keep you posted when we know more.
For those in remote areas where NF rarely (if ever) plays I am happy for them about the "more webcasting" line.
