I was lucky enough to get to see Liam in a wee club in Barcelona last week. No support. Band on stage at 2130. I sauntered in at 2125 and took my place alongside 7 other people. Yes 7. Five mins before kick-off. But remember, this is Spain. Time is a fluid concept here. Obviously it had rubbed off on Liam, so when he clambered on stage 20 mins late we had 'ballooned' to about 50. There was a revolving dancefloor in front of the stage which everyone crammed onto making it feel cosy. Thankfully they couldn't find the on button to the dancefloor as I get dizzy and may have ruined someones evening.
It felt like it was packed in there. The crowd were great. Liam and his band were amazing. He pulled out all the stops including a couple of forays into the crowd for rock n' roll posturing, some sexy topless dancing (I hid for that one), and later slow dancing with the entire band. It was over too quickly, but that was a measure of how much I enjoyed it.
At the merch stand I managed to bag the deluxe version of I'll be Lightning for only €15. 2 LP's, 1 CD, 6 extra tracks and yes, a camera. Then the man himself, still dripping with sweat offered to personalise it for me. Apparently only 1000 were made, so to find one 7 years later topped my night.
The the poor things were driving to London straight after the show. I hope it felt worth it for them, but it certainly was for the crowd.
