Hi all. My husband and I just took in a 7-day-old kitten that was neglected by its Mom, who is a stray that lives on our property. We are bottle-feeding and hand-raising her, and she should be ready to live in a new home in 5-7 weeks.

She's strong, so far very sweet, makes a cute array of sounds, and is black with a white nose, white belly, and white feet. Looks just like her daddy. Smiler

If you are in the NY area and might want to adopt her, please let me know. Otherwise, you may find her in 5-7 weeks in the North Shore Animal League, which is a GREAT place to adopt a kitty. We have 2 brothers from there, which is why we're not looking to add a third to our home.

We're calling her Gloria after Gloria Gaynor's disco hit, "I Will Survive." 3 other baby kittens did not make it through the first week, so Gloria clearly has something special.

Smiler thanks!

For closure's sake, I should probably post that Gloria has just passed on. It seems that she was not a match to continuing here, and may not have ever been. Me taking her in and caring for her obviously could not change that energy. On the physical level, we don't know what internal problems she may have been born with, and we don't know if Junior's style of mothering put her in a condition that could not be healed. I thought that she was getting stronger and doing well, so her death has been a huge to me, her foster mom. Smiler

If she had to go, I'm glad that she got to experience our home rather than having passed a few days ago in the state in which we found her. That probably would have been more upsetting.

And that's our tale for today. Sorry to be a stormy rain cloud, but I felt that it would be best to pass on the information considering I am no longer looking for someone to adopt her. Frowner

Actually, Mona is short for "Monarch Butterfly" because of the patterns on her back... which the pictures didn't catch. Her back has these perfect symmetric patterns and almost like a line down the middle. It reminded me of a butterfly in that it has 2 intricately designed wings. The kitty is clearly a girl, and I didn't know where to go with names this time as you can tell. Wink

When we got our cats from NSAL, they were called Otto and Kurt. Phil thought that sounded like 2 old Nazis Smiler so we changed them to Mickey and Luke. Phil loves Mickey Mouse so I like to call our cat Mickey Meows. And I was going to keep Kurt, but everytime I went to say it, I said Luke. So after 2 days of that, I said FINE he obviously wants to be called Luke. And wouldn't you know it, he answers to his name, he comes when he's called, and he gives you a happy excited "it's me!" meow when you say "is that Mr. Luke?" So I say he named himself.

Kurt, in a vacuum, I love your name! But imagine 2 kitty brothers named Otto and Kurt when the whole rest of the room is like Fluffy and Muffin, Bogie and Bacall, and Snoopy and Oreo. Otto and Kurt together somehow sounded like 2 old Nazis.

Meanwhile, I'll be bringing in for adoption sisters Mona and Xerox and brother Eggcream, who they'll probably try to adopt separately.
