My only experience there was the time CH played in November '93, it was pretty manky then (not as bad as the SFX though). Neil commented on the National Sweatbox (it's used for boxing tournaments and such), as I remember.
Didn't use toilets so can't comment. The sound was very good on the night. Dada supported CH and they really went for it, their first album was just out and they were full of life. Then CH came out and went for it too. Massive respect for that.
I dont see Duke Special raising the bar too high this time though, which is something I feel that I may regret on the night.

Dublin and indeed the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK as such, but thanks for including us anyway. Razzer
Aw, it's not that bad! Well from what I recall anyway. Maybe not up to the standards of modern concert halls and theatres, but a damn sight more atmosphere than many, and often really good sound quality as well. Well worth going to at least once I say.

Kare - I think I was at the same gig as you in '93. CH and Dada were both excellent. Same again would do perfectly Smiler

As for pubs, absolutely no idea. South Circular Road is the wrong side of town for me (I'm a northsider) and I've not been to the area for years. I'm sure some knowledgeable Dub on here will have a few recommendations.

I believe so, Anselm, you correctly remembered the opening song - Kare Kare - I had always thought they opened with B & W Boy.
I still have the t-shirt I got at the gig and will probably wear it too. Getting a little excited now in fairness. Hope the t-shirt still fits...

It's a real rock 'n' roll venue alright. Yeah, getting a bit of a buzz now.
I was thinking of suggesting the Long Hall on Georges St for a couple of drinks beforehand.

It's central and easy to find.
It's on the bus route that passes the National Stadium (route 122).
There are also heaps of taxis passing by for anyone not wanting to hang around waiting for a bus.
And it's a lovely pub!

I don't know the area around the National Stadium too well so I can't say how the pubs there compare to it.
Am flying off to Dublin tonight so hope we can all agree to a meeting place. I remember the Long Hall from the Finn Bros gig meet up. I only really know places in Rathmines other than that. For some reson I have booked a flight back on Tuesday morning at 6.30 a.m.

WHAT WAS I THINKING???!!!!!
Well it was only a penny plus tax.

See ya all soon frenz x
Couldn't get a ticket to the show tomorrow, but I did see Neil and Elroy walking around near Temple Bar today. Almost ran smack into them! Looking forward to Belfast!

I just drove past the National Stadium tonight to check out the pubs near by. And as Ken suggested the Headline Bar is right on the corner at the end of the road the stadium is on. I will head for there I guess but not sure what time anyone else will show up? About 7.00pm ish I suppose? Let me know if anyone else is going and how to spot you. See ya tomorrow frenz.
I can't believe all the waiting is finally over and that the day of the gig is finally here! Haven't been to the Stadium for a long time, but always loved the intimacy of the place. I'll be going with my sister who introduced me to CH and my son, who has been a willing convert to all things Finn.

I've been hoping that maybe I'll get my first chance to meet Neil and the guys afterwards, but am not sure where to head to after the show. Anyone else going to have a go and if so, where do you reckon would be the best bet for success? I'd appreciate any ideas!

Unfortunately, will just about be making it there on time, so won't be able to make it to the Headline. But knowing that you are all there at the concert will feel so good. Only twelve hours or so to go as I write!

Thanks for the link, Ken. It' a good one Smiler

Would just like to say I am so excited about monday At least now us fans will get a proper CH set not like in marley park. (not that I didnt enjoy Peter Gabriel, but you know what I mean)

Absolutely know what ya mean... but in my case I'm excited about Tuesday and Belfast tomorrow.

I missed 1st three numbers of the Marlay Park set as well, because of the rain (a little bit too much weather with them )

Anyway enjoy Dublin and then be jealous because tomorrow I'll be enjoying Belfast. AND Duke Special. Smiler (Inspired choice for support.)

Yeah....a little box pops up saying 'This video is not available in your area'. And sadly I'm not good enough at computers to somehow hack my way in Big Grin
Ooooh where to start... it was an amazing night, I'm still on a high from it all! I really can't remember every song that was played, let alone the order so I'm not even going to attempt a running order of the night!

For me the standout was 'Walked Her Way Down'; it reaffirmed everything I love about the song and could not have been better.

I agree with Ken - BBHS was a fantastic end to the set and wrapped it all up nicely.

Now to try to get some sleep so that I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed for Belfast tomorrow Smiler
First of all, the band is playing as well live as I've ever seen them and that includes the Opera house show. But did anyone else think it took the crowd ages to get going. I tried standing and screaming out a few times to get people going and I got a few replies during the lulls but it was so quiet between songs in the first half. With that in mind I want to send out a big thanks to the crazy guy in the red shirt who broke through security (thanks to Neil saying "it's ok, let him in") and started dancing like a lunatic right at Neil's feet. he started a rampage to the front and in seconds everyone was on their feet and the front of the stage was packed. Brilliant stuff and it lifted the roof for the last third of the set. As above "Better be home soon" was a show stopper and the last song "Four seasons" was a perfect end. Hope everyone else had as good a time as I did, including the band.

Did you leave before 4 Seasons In One Day Eeker

Seriously, I must thank you for suggesting the Headline Bar, great Guinness and good atmosphere. Shame about the toilets though - they were dog rough.

My brother and I were also fortunate enough to meet up with SJS and had a great time. Many thanks to her for providing 'navigation' to and from the venue for a couple of guys from the sticks. As recompense, we tried to fill in some of the gaps (albeit small ones) in her musical education. I dont think my drunken renditions of Squeeze/Supertramp etc did the trick though.

The gig itself? The Fantastic Four. Words fail me...
