A long shot I know...but does anybody here have information on the line ups of the Try Whistling This bonus tracks?

I think I have the writing and production credits , I'm more interested in who actually played on them. (Engineering/mixing info would be lovely too.) I'm not sure if this information has ever been published any where so I wouldn't be surprised if nobody really knew; still, if anybody did know it besides, you know, the actual players,  it would surely be someone on this board! :-)

I'm specifically asking about the following:

  • Tokyo
  • She Comes Scattered
  • Family Ties
  • Identical Twin
  • 808 Song
  • Log Drums
  • The Spirit of the Stairs
  • Fish Hook
  • Can You Hear Us
  • I Can See Clearly Now

What a great time for Neil and what great music!

My apologies if you already did this, but my first stop for more detailed information about specific tracks is Discogs. If you look through all the various individual singles and B-Side releases in all countries/formats (even if there are 40 of them), including clicking on the album artwork when it says "Shore more" beneath it - oftentimes the information you're looking for is in there somewhere. For instance, ONLY the German Maxi-CD single of a particular song might list the musicians in the liner notes of the artwork, which you need to open and enlarge to read, etc.

From there, obviously, where you find the same producers, musicians, studio, etc, on certain tracks, you can begin figuring out which songs were recorded together at which studio - or work backwards and assume if the song was recorded at a certain studio with the same producer, it probably shares many of the same musicians. It's tedious detective work and there's quite a bit of informed guessing (which is maddening for the OCD among us), but "close" and "ballpark" is better than nothing.

In general, what I've found for the "TWT" sessions and associated tracks, almost everything was recorded during these sessions/periods:

Roudhead Studios, Auckland, NZ (May-Aug 97) Looking Glass Studios, New York, NY (Nov-Dec 97) Greenstone Studios, Kare Kare, NZ (Nov 95) York Street Studios, Auckland, NZ (Oct 96), Shelter Island Sound, NYC (Oct 97)

Hope that's helpful at all and please share your discoveries if you find the answers you're looking for!
