Girls and guys (in that order), I need to ask your help...

I'm getting married on 22nd June (finally Big Grin ) and I'd like to have some of my favourite CH/Neil Finn music played at the reception and at the little party afterwards...trouble is, which ones?

Any ideas on what would make for a lovely soundtrack for our garden party would be very much appreciated.

I've already had a friend suggest 'Into Temptation' Wink I hope he's not serious Big Grin

Do you reckon Crowded House would reform and play a special gig just for me? Well I can dream, can't I!

Well, when I got married...I had 2 of my best friends(one girl and one guy)sing Angel's Heap with just a piano and tambourine right before the ceremony. It was lovely..although I'm sure everyone wondered what a song about 'getting it on' in the backseat of a car had to do with getting married. Eeker It worked for me though..too bad the husband didn't. Roll Eyes

I am going through my copy of "Love This Life" and here's a song that has beautiful lyrics...I'm not familiar with the song, so I don't know what tempo it's in, but this is the name of it, "You I Know", and here is a sample of the lyrics:

"...but it's you I know, and no one else will do.
Yes, it's you I know, with all you put me through. When I was drifting down, you pulled me up again, and it's you I know--you'll love me to the end...You could be anything, you could be anything you want. You could be everywhere, you could be everywhere at once. You could have anyone, you don't need me to get you going...and it's you I know, you love me to the end."

Pretty, huh? I wish I knew what the melody was like! Where can I get this song? The book just has it by itself in a section titled "Body and Soul".

Cosmic Claire - thanks: yes we are still together. Neil has something to answer for! Big Grin

Anselm - I wouldn't pick Don't Dream (its a song about marital crises - not a good way to start!), or I Am In Love (which is more about having to prove love in a defensive way: "I AM in love, honest!"

A lot of Neil's songs are not exactly straightforward, and his expressions of love are usually edged with guilt or other darker moods. Basically, I couldn't find many songs that were straightforward love songs without a twist.

Into The Sunset is a good choice but is fairly specific. Elastic Heart has a very romantic lyric...
I can't say here since we didn't do any frenz-related music at my wedding. I sang "Words of Love" by the Mamas and the Papas with the band, and "Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush with the co ed a cappella group I was in at my uni. My husband played the guitar and solo on "Something" by the Beatles. And "our song" was "In My Life" by the Beatles.

The a cappella group wanted me to sing "Possession" by Sarah McLachlan since they already knew it and it was my arrangement. But I think nobody noticed that the song is actually sung by a stalker... so there's only so romantic that imagery is. Smiler

ps: do we know her? is she a member of these boards? Smiler
Smiler Big Grin my choice would be: "When You Come"
says it all to me, complete devotion.........
my husband and I were going to sing a CH song to eachother at our wedding, but chickened out in the end.
I would loved to have photographed a CH/Finn/Enz-frenz wedding.....you probably have some one already and I'm booked, too, shame......
Good Luck to you both and have a great day!
Tina

Any other fans out there getting married needing a cracking Wedding photographer please get in touch.........

Hi, For our first dance we had Fall at Your Feet - we decided we wouldn't worry what guest's reactions were to meaning or words as the song has always been our all time favourite! We also created our own CD soundtrack throughout the pre-ceremony and reception, which was purely instrumental and played mostly by Royal Philarmonic Orchestra, which was a mixture of our favourite artists/songs. The instrumental cd went down a storm and we had plenty of comments regarding it. Our first dance was also a hit!! We have booked to see CH this June in Cardiff and cannot wait to hear 'our song' live.

I have no recommendations for the more formal or solemn type of wedding, and I struggle to find Finn-based romantic ballads that aren't a bit ambiguous. I guess he doesn't do that "classic wedding song" (I personally don't like those anyway, but that's just a matter of taste.) I would second Private Universe though.

It depends on the mood you're going for, but for a fun garden party with nice people celebrating a lovely couple I can recommend:

Now we're getting somewhere, It's only natural, Kare Kare, Nails in my feet, and a grand drunk finale of I'm still here.

I agree, Fall at your feet and Message to my girl would be great. My parents used Message to my girl at their wedding as well, the first time I watched their wedding video I freaked out because I knew that my Mum had definitely done the whole song list.

I would also recommend that if you like Tim’s work, Carve you in marble is funky yet romantic and Crowded House Four seasons in one day would be a good way to reflect on the fact that you know trials are ahead but your willing to work through them together. I love you dawn is pretty much perfect for a wedding, from the Afterglow album

Congratulations, hope you have a great wedding day!
