Wow, well, "The Wind Was On the Withered Heath" is certainly an alternative song that Neil composed for the Hobbit films. Very cool to get to hear that!

Ah, I see. The lyrics are taken directly from the text of the book:

The wind was on the withered heath,
but in the forest stirred no leaf:
there shadows lay by night and day,
and dark things silent crept beneath.

The wind came down from mountains cold,
and like a tide it roared and rolled;
the branches groaned, the forest moaned,
and leaves were laid upon the mould.

The wind went on from West to East;
all movement in the forest ceased,
but shrill and harsh across the marsh
its whistling voices were released.

The grasses hissed, their tassels bent,
the reeds were rattling—on it went
o'er shaken pool under heavens cool
where racing clouds were torn and rent.

It passed the lonely Mountain bare
and swept above the dragon's lair:
there black and dark lay boulders stark
and flying smoke was in the air.

It left the world and took its flight
over the wide seas of the night.
The moon set sail upon the gale,
and stars were fanned to leaping light.

That final "film demo" had a title of "Decoy 1" displaying as it played during the webcast.

"Gentle Soul" is excellent - I remember Neil performing it in Detroit on the One All tour in early 2003 - before it evolved into a Finn Bothers b-side.

Anyone know which location between Philadelphia and Winnipeg Neil was broadcasting from?

That's great, but would love to have some dates to associate with these demos. Looks like some of these demos date back to at least 2001. Are some even older?

"Beautiful Life" had "Feb 7th" displaying as it played, and "You And I Know" had a 2013 date.

Here are my guesses, based on the info I have:

Neil Finn - Wrinkles (demo) Date: unknown

This is awesome.

On "The Wind is on the Withered Heath" there's a rather long choral piece...is that part of the same song? Or is it another song? And if so is it a Neil Finn song, or a Howard Shore composition or somebody else or what? It's beautiful whoever/whatever it is.

I was wondering if it might be something in Elvish?

I thought the same thing.

But the question for me remains whether it’s Neil or Howard Shore who wrote it.

I'm almost certain that it's a Neil composition. It's definitely a demo and I highly doubt that Neil and Howard Shore were ever working on musical ideas together.
