I came in late last night. So glad to see he played Walking on the Spot!
Stuck around for the after show this time. What a treat! Peace, Y'all.

think there was a little extra Neil (playing along ?) in the aftershow, lyric going "Get me on a plane, get me out of here ..." ... a "homesick mystery" to be unsolved ..

Maybe he is just sick of being locked up and not able to just go anywhere like the rest of us.
Get me a plane Get me out of here......
He’s echoing the sentiments of all. Just yesterday was thinking how we could sneak down the highway with our caravan in tow 🙃 missing the camping very muchly. Gosh if it wasn’t for these sessions I know I would be lost ...

Wow, not one but two Macca songs!
Nobody wants to, finally!

Glad you got your request played Chris ... you may have noticed me supporting other people's requests - those on the corona front line, those having a hard time or who mentioned a relative or friend about to pass away/having passed away ... the hommage to Prince was another one I joined in requesting ...
Neil played quite a few of those requests, actuallly he played all of them ... to me it feels just as good, even better as having a personal request fulfilled "one-to-one"...
... it overjoys and sometimes overwhelms me to see how people who most probably have never met create wave upon wave of Positivity for each other thanks to the Fangradio platform ... the FINN Family isn't merely entertaining us playing some songs as far as I'm concerned ... They are the architect-creators of a valuable network connecting all sorts of people world-wide ... channeling THE buzzzzz in the back of our mind and heart ... the priceless vibe we'll all need once we start up "after corona" and rebuild ... perhaps a slightly better World ... Don't Dream It's Over !!
Oh no, he played it BEFORE I could request it
If I tune into a show when it's playing, I will try to request "Voices".

So the news from today’s show was neil’s response to why matt and mark arent in the crowdies anymore ...
First time he’s addressed it.
two part answer along the lines of the band recorded some stuff a few years ago and neil didnt think it was very good ... nobody’s fault yada yada ... bands need to evolve ... when he played with liam and elroy and nick it felt good again ...
Hmmmm

I’m glad he addressed it. And that’s always been the case - Neil gravitates, in the studio, anyway, to people who inspire him. And Matt had more or less one chance at that, with Intriguer.. Mark has TA and Intriguer, but given how Mitchell keeps Mark out of the way...
If you asked Neil “who should play Crowded House songs on stage with you?!”, that group of course includes Mark. But if he wants to make a record and tour... it’s more complex.
I wish Mark was in the touring band this time. But I’d rather sing those songs with Neil/Liam/Elroy than not at all. And Elroy is one hell of a drummer.

And who could possibly disagree with his comments? What's the alternative ..he should disregard his own musical instincts and stay working with the same musicians to please others? Interesting and progressive and innovative artists do evolve and change. More power to Neil.

I listened to this only this morning and although I am the first to recognise Neil can do whatever he wishes - I wasn't satisfied with this reply.
IMHO the bonus tracks on the Intriguer deluxe which I think are some of the tracks Neil was uninspired by are phenomenal - 2 Minutes Silence in particular is better than any track on Intriguer and I am a huge fan of Intriguer, I think it is much under appreciated by the fan base. Also Strangest Friends is my favourite track of Dizzy Heights so I was really pleased to discover it was an Intriguer deluxe song - it is so Crowded House at their best.
Neil is totally entitled to his view, but for me it just adds to my theory that Neil does not know when he is onto a good thing musically,a point I have raised before in previous threads.
As for the future of Crowded House, I like and agree with Neil's assertion that it should evolve and I await the new iteration with interest and some trepidation. Why trepidation? In straight terms if Crowded House is becoming the Finn family band plus Nick I am not sure it will work.
To be honest, I found Lightsleeper really disappointing and now I hardly play it. Maybe one of Neil's better recent decisions was to abandon the promotion of Lightsleeper in favour of touring with Fleetwood Mac.
So we shall see will the new Crowded House album be new and inspiring without Mark and Matt or will it be a second snooze - Lightsleeper part 2?

You And I Know Mix2 MP16 Stereo EDIT2 VoxDown 20130501.wav by "Unknown artist" ... an out-take from Dizzy Heights
You And I Know has been played a couple of times on Fangradio. And it was first streamed years ago on neilfinn.com: https://www.neilfinn.com/the-k...-sink-rarities-vol-3
The one today is a different mix, which has been played before, back in November last year on Fangradio. You can most easily tell the difference in the intro as this "Mix2" has no drums til 19 seconds in, and the Kitchen Sink mix has drums from the beginning.

It sounds very similar to the sessions with he had with Nick, Mark and Peter Jones ('help is coming' and 'spirit of the stairs').

I think it's sort of telling how infrequently he returns to tracks from Intriguer, also. So far in the Fangradio sessions, we've had Either Side, Isolation, and Elephants; at the Encore shows we got Either Side, and in his solo shows between '11 and '18 there were a couple of Amsterdams and a couple of Either Sides. Compare that to how frequently he plays something like English Trees or Say That Again.
Because of the time in my life (I was 21 when Intriguer came out, had just started a new job in a new town, moved house, generally doing grownup things for the first time), I have a ton of affection for that record, but I don't think Neil rates it. I also continue to think his comment from of his NF.com journals last year where he talked about burying a good hook just to be rebellious was about Twice if You're Lucky.

Sorry, going off the forum thread here...
I also really like Intriguer too. And I still really like it.
In my way of thinking, if Neil doesn't really rate that album well, that still shouldn't stop you from having an affection for the album 🙂.
And from reading your comment in the NF journals, I read the one about Crowded House moving on after Mark was removed and I thought, 'umm, I think I won't read anymore of these!!'

That’s the wonderful thing about music. It is what it means to you. Intriguer is still my first grown up job in 2010. Together Alone was the album playing when I drove away from a tragic breakup in 2007. Anytime from the 7 Worlds album makes me think of walking alone in a forest in Bedfordshire around Christmas 2009. Spring 2014 was particularly good for me for various reasons, so all of Dizzy Heights has a warm glow. I spent much of summer 2017 riding a ferry because of where I was living, so Out of Silence will forever feel nautical to me.
i look forward to many similar memories from whatever comes next.

Thanks for sharing, Thom. My memories span childhood through to forty-something...Some songs are a little too evocative now: heartbreak, episodes of depression...but there’s also falling in love for the first time, career breakthroughs, and my mother’s garden. (She Goes On)
Today I was motoring to work, singing "The glory of these forty days..." That was a pretty amazing masterclass.
Definitely! The next two weeks will likely go until the end of California lockdown in any case?
did anybody else find the tuning on recurring dream slightly off ?

Has always bothered me that I can't figure out how to play that riff. Finally a version without the delay/second guitar to deconstruct! Anyone care to have a go at tabbing it out?

Also enjoyed Johnny's session, story about how the friendship with the Finn family started ... involvement in 7 worlds, Pajama Party ... appreciating Ed O’Brien's sideproject ... and we got to hear his son's track, I was not aware his son was a musician as well, must check out ... Nile Marr ... it was a fun experience, Neil's Fangbroadcasts are the ones taking me to Dizzy Heights, though
I’ve always liked Johnny Marr’s contributions to the 7 Worlds Collide project, but never really got into the Smiths until fairly recently. Such an innovative, unusual guitarist and writer - and weird to think that he achieved it all before he turned 24.
Hopefully someone has archived this so we can listen back to it.
