PS: all those of us who wondered about the origin of the INTRO tune to the Fangradio broadcasts .. from today's chat : "Intro Music recorded by Neil using sampled strings and timpani. Composed for a film but unused."

An expertly written bit of info

I know ... I confirm ... all credit of that bit of info to you Jaffaman !

During this short pause in Fangradio sessions it seemed like a good idea to take a look of the depth of the material Neil, Liam en Elroy have been playing these last weeks. I think it tells us a bit about the songs that are ingrained in Neil's (muscle) memory, ie. the songs he can always play without rehearsal. It could also mean that those are the ones Neil perceives as the favourites of his audience. On the other hand Neil is willing to delight his audience with rarities and requests of whch there have been quite a few. I may also tell us which songs of his career he is most fond of, although he keeps away from naming them favourites... Anyway... here it is:

Additionally, during the DJ portions of the Los Angeles broadcasts Neil has aired what sounded like unreleased solo demo/live/band rehearsal versions of:
The Finn Brothers' "All God's Children" presumably circa 2003; plus "Bound To Rescue", "Only Way To Go Is Forwards" and "Twice If You're Lucky" from the Intriguer era circa 2008.

Hoping to hear some more of those little insight gems.

I think if you go back to the autumn of last year, Neil did a whole show of these demo's and alternate 'Kitchen sink'esque' recordings. Its still on his website from the 5th November on the Fangradio page.

A great listen - I do think Neil is incredibly kind and generous to let us hear these things. Hoping one day, maybe these versions get a formal release?

The Ligature - can you give any more info, i.e. dates on these? I have never heard these, is this when Neil puts on his iTunes playlist at the end of a live broadcast? I've listened to recent ones bit only heard non Finn music.

As far as I can remember those tracks were part of the almost 6 hour playlist that began at 9am and ended just before the 3pm live broadcast on 26th March - that's all I have regarding date. If there was recording date information associated with the unreleased material which aired, I couldn't see it as that function of Mixlr only appears to work when listening via a desktop PC (at least for me).
It was an extensive playlist which also included the kind of selections he's been playing in other sessions. I recall there was some of his own material - from Out Of Silence in particular, a few Lightsleeper songs, Liam Finn solo, Neil & Paul Kelly, Pablo Vasquez, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Hope Sandoval, Madeline Peyroux, Shuggie Otis, a couple of Everly Brothers tracks and several songs each by Television and Parquet Courts who both are evidently very much in favour there, plus a lot of material I didn't recognize such as the sort of African and Greek music that's been present in his other shorter playlists.

The Ligature I can confirm Neil added rare demo, live, ... tracks to his DJ playlist that preceded the show - indeed Fangradio was already broadcasting for several hours in the afternoon before the 26th March LIVE show .

Here's what I heard (including the info that scrolled during the chat) :

Meet Me In The Air (mix 5)
Bound To Rescue - demo ?
I Know Different (mix 1)
Beautiful Life (7th February)

... didn't catch that entire pré-show unfortunately.

I don't want to interrupt your genuinely interesting exchange about Neil's playlist, I just wanted to quickly interject that a) I've been humming "The Second Hobbit Song" for two days now; and b) I want "Finn does Bowie" to become a thing, I absolutely love listening to his covers.

Indeed, Neil's voice at times comes very close to David's ... as far as the Hobbit enchantment that has you under its spell, Mica ... guess you'll have to gather up the Fellowhip of the Sing, face many a perilous a capella rehearsal, grinding  chord changes and travel yonder to Mount-in-your-Room where ye shall chant till morning cometh ... "One Song To Rule These Walls"
