Neil Finn's "Keep it short" broadcast

Neil was logged in on mixlr.com/fangradio while he was working on the "infrastructure" as he called it ...

Neil noticed some of us chatting away and decided to have a short, 10-minute broadcast ... reciting thoughts of a naval officer on sea warfare tactics (North Sea, oceans ...)  followed by some jazzy music, Mick Fleetwood reciting, Maori chanting ... snippet of "Woodstock" (my guess) ... whished Liam a Happy Birthday  - we followed that lead - violins ... sitar .. segment of the new mix of Harry's theme aka FANGRADIO theme ... moooore sitar to conclude.

and yes, those already logged in enjoyed the incoming stampede of FANGERS just notified of the ad hoc gathering

Anyone know who is Stew23 is? Only curious because he's credited with providing info for some demos on the October 27th broadcast. I'm specifically curious because I actually named the song "Man of the Cloth" when I first heard a different demo of it ten or more years ago. Prior to that it was just called "Untitled".

It's funny to think that my name for it has permeated the fandom and is now an official title for the song on Neil's website. I notice the lyric "Man of the Cloth" doesn't even appear in this version. It doesn't pop up until the later demo with more complete lyrics.

Neil calling upon us to wake up more people so 1000 tune into FANGRADIO broadcasts .. C'mon everyFANGbody !!

It surprises me, but I’m not really into Fangradio. I’ve enjoyed a few of Neil’s lockdown clips, like the Heroes cover, but I can’t imagine making time for this show. Maybe it’s the part of me that used to collect B-sides and seek out every bootleg and snippet of live performance I could find. Now he’s performing all the time, it doesn’t seem that precious or special. I also don’t really like the “hangin out at home” vibe, hearing Neil chat on the phone with relatives or whatever.

Again, it’s surprising to me. But I’m glad others enjoy it.

You might be surprised if you look back at the archives and the posted track listings, there's literally been dozens and dozens of never before heard demos from Neil's archives played on Fangradio, from Crowded House era and beyond, and in fact even some very early pre Split Enz recordings. It's not only live to air acoustic performances. I am always surprised at the range of views here, but I really would be gobsmacked if hearing Neil's works in progress demos and unreleased songs holds no appeal to anyone with even a passing interest in  Crowded House/Neil Finn, let along a long time fan.

Thank you for typing up the tracklists here! I've been unable to tune in every day, so the info's been invaluable.

Glad to be of some help, Jaffaman ..

my humble way of contributing and showing appreciation for All that FANGRADIO so Generously brings us and the Heartwarming Friendships it leads to ..

The mountain of nuggets Neil plays and shares ... Split Enz, Crowded House, Finn, covers and improvs galore ... such an 'abundance of eargasms' - who'd want to miss out on those ..

amongst all of this and most surely not to be forgotten, 'Backbone' Jeremy

Four Seasons was very nice, not sure how Mitchell managed to play the 3rd part of the solo, how many hands does he have?! Great to hear.

I'm less sure about Nails, I really hope this version of the band can loosen up and figure out how to jam together a bit, compare the last minute or so of any 2010 version to this and it's all a bit... quiet. But it's early days.

02nd November 2020

These sessions are truly a dream. Gosh I’ll stick to my IPad like glue for notifications. Shame about the time changing though. But at least they will be archived. And perhaps more around the world would be able to tune in live hopefully 😊

That was a great session - some fun takes on some little played songs, and solid versions of some classics. really excited for the rest of these (particularly for whether he’ll attempt TOE/Intriguer).

When Neil was commenting that all the songs on the first album were pitched very high, I was reminded of this from Something So Strong:

“Nick says the sessions were ‘a real test of Neil’s mettle. He possibly touched on the fear of megalomania during that record, where he got very scared and had to look inside himself to see what his motivation was. He really screamed a couple of times on the record, singing like he really meant it.’ Neil reasoned it was the desperate edge of Hollywood, ‘a good environment for conflict, for emotional energy. When it came to the singing I was ready to scream my lungs out.’ “

From Team NF - Crowded House

Today's live Fangradio broadcast was dedicated to the debut Crowded House album. Neil Finn performed it acoustically from beginning to end! Listen to the archived audio at neilfinn.com/fangradio ~ Team CH

The next Fangradio session? The second Crowded House album, Temple of Low Men, from top to bottom.

Looking forward to the next session 😄✌️
