You're right iarla. Damien Rice is a great artist. I really like his Cd (I even review it on amazon.fr !!!). I give you a link where you can see Damien singing 4 songs (covering Tracy Chapman...)for a french radio : Damien Rice session Lots of love
Lisa Hannigan did a solo show as part of the Children of Bam Benefit gig in Vicar St. (Where I Work) in Dublin. She did a jazz show which was amazing. It was also nice seeing Damien and Paul Noonan (his ex Juniper\Bell X1 bandmate) sharing a stage again. As for Damien songs not on O (Many of them rockin!) - They could be any of the following: Face Woman Like A Man Sand Insane If You're Gonna Stay Groovin' The Professor Tongue (also on Bell X1's new album) Eve The Apple of My Eye (Another Bell X1 song going back to Juniper days) The Blower's Daughter Part 2 Toffee Pop I'm So Childish Bottom Shelf Baby Sister Little Sister (two different songs)
Saw him at work in December and he was ****in' amazing. Saw him at work at the start of Feb, and he was ok. If you get Damien Rice on a good night, It'll be a gig you'll never forget. If you get him on an off night - His songs still stand up for themselves.
Geddy, I've served Lisa Hannigan at work, have had a few conversations with her on a few occasions (Not that she'd remember me). You jealous!? *grin!*
If you head on over to The Frames message board at http://www.theframes.ie/v3/comm you may find someone, as most of the gig goers (and especially audience recorders) in the Dublin scene with the likes of Damo, Bell X1, The Frames,Mundy, David Kitt etc. are a pretty tight bunch and all seem to congregate there (which would be a moderators nightmare, it's rarely on topic). But i think the general consensus was that most people who brought in their MiniDisc recorders turned them off, as it was being recorded already with a view to a release. - It was a benefit for the Bam Earthquake. Good cause me thinks - Organised by Tomo, Damien Rice's drummer.
I do have a decent collection of Damien Rice live recordings though (I refuse to refer to them as boots - Cos they are only for selected trade, and I would never trade them with anyone who would bootleg them) if you're interested, PM me off list.
He's playing in Toronto next month - my friend keeps playing the CD in an effort to persuade me to go see him. I like his stuff, but not enough to go see him live. I'm too picky about the gigs I go to I guess
I gather your friend must be connected, Aka, as these tickets are hard to come by...Convocation Hall is a great venue and I believe this show sold out by mid-Feb...but if you have access to a ticket, AWAY YA GO! I'm very jealous of you.
I've got a feeling my friend is just living in his own little world then, 'cos I'm pretty sure he doesn't have tickets yet. Then again, he's also one of these people who can amaze you with the number of spectacular connections that he can draw upon, seemingly at a moment's notice and without a trace of name-dropping. If he wasn't such a nice person it'd make ya sick
