Mainly because I already have the albums on vinyl, original CD and now deluxe CD. How many copies does one need?

Also because, frankly, I really can't stand the modern habit of crushing the dynamics out of music. The deluxe remasters are really hard for me to enjoy because all the life and dynamics have been sucked out of the first three. I suspect that the vinyl was mastered from the new CD masters so, basically, you'd be buying the CD music on vinyl.

I liked Afterglow, although Paul advised that it was less dynamic than the original B-sides were. I don't have them to compare.

I keep thinking about buying the remastered Temple, but I haven't managed to convince myself yet.

Slowpogo - do you have the originals already, or are you trying to decide between buying originals or remasters?

I haven't been paying attention to prices for the originals, have they come down since the reissues happened? My gut feeling is that for the debut and Woodface you would undoubtedly be best served by originals - specifically the US CH and the Euro WF (I also have Aus copies of both - they are not bad, but the other ones are better). Another option for Woodface would be the EMI100 version - haven't heard it, but supposed to be good.

Together Alone - unsure. I'm happy enough with my original, and seeing as they didn't make it a double LP, I wouldn't imagine the new one would help much, but I could be wrong.

As mentioned, Temple is the only one I'm kind of thinking about buying, for the new EQ. If the LPs were more dynamic than the CD remasters, that could end up being quite nice, but nobody has confirmed or denied that yet. See my post in the other thread for more Temple thoughts, if you want.

You'd be in the minority preferring the original Woodface CD to the original LP, Finfan. Which pressing? The Aus one isn't as good as the European one, at least in my system. I bought the Aus one recently cos it was cheap and is one of the last LPs to be pressed in an Aus major label plant (indeed, EMI had already closed their plant at the time, so it was cut and pressed at CBS Australia) - more of a curiosity for me. I'll keep it, but it's not the one I listen to.

The Euro LP bests my original (UK) CD by a decent margin - much better separation - it really shows off those harmonies.

I've not had a chance to listen to my UK Woodface LP in a long while but I'd be amazed if it had better separation than the CD, given that it's a long LP, Geoff, but I trust your judgement enough to take your word on it. I'll have to give it another listen when I get a mo. Which will probably be in 2023 given the presence of a little 'un ...

@stuartjb can back me up on this... Woodface is a long album, but they did it somehow. There are a couple of albums in my collection that appear to break the laws of physics. The original Bob Ludwig cut of the first Rage Against The Machine album is another - astonishingly dynamic and powerful, despite being 52 minutes long.

Incidentally, I didn't realise until recently that there were two Woodface LPs released in the UK - the Euro version I have, pressed in Germany using the rainbow label, and a version with the black Capitol label pressed (by the looks of it) at EMI Hayes. I've never heard (or seen!) a copy of the UK black label version.

Ok , finally getting round to listening to both versions of woodface vinyl .( wife and kids out ) 

rega plannar 3 turntable and Eltax floor standing speakers . 

Have to say to my limited audiophile skills they sound pretty similar . At first I thought  the new one had more bottom end , but I’ve subsequently dismissed that . 

I think the origional has a slightly brighter top end ? But that’s about it . 

Woodface has always sounded fantastic to me on vinyl - Nicks bass almost sounds like  I’d imagine it did hearing it through the studio monitors for the first time ! 

Both sound great , but apart from your preference for top end , I can’t say that one sounds better than the other ...

others may have better ears or better gear !

Yeah, I thought about selling my old vinyls before the new vinyls had been announced. Could probably have gotten US$100 for TA, but I just couldn't bring myself to part with them.

Recurring Dream will still fetch a pretty penny! Hopefully it'll still be worth something when I die so that my children or grandchildren can benefit! I just can't sell my CH stuff. Too sentimental to me.

Stuart, I think the value will return once  more of these reissues get into the hands of true fans and availability decreases

I’m looking for TA on vinyl in the States and the prices are still pretty steep for the original release. It’s the only album of original material that I don’t have on vinyl right now.  

As for Slowpogo’s original question, I don’t have both the originals and reissues on vinyl.  I will say that I like the original vinyl more than the original CDs on TOLM and CH.  Bigger soundstage, more texture heard on Neil’s vocals, and slightly more dynamics especially on songs like When You Come and Hole in the River.  I found it hard to compare the Woodface vinyl reissue with the original release CD.  I will say that Neil’s vocals are more upfront in the mix on the reissue than the cd.  But that’s the mix and probably not the media. 

Back to TA, I’ve heard mixed reviews on all vinyl versions.  Opinions on TA, original, reissue and all releases in between?
