Crowded House did a 3 track corporate gig for Salesforce today, playing:
- Something So Strong
- Don't Dream It's Over
- Weather With You

The Finns were in LA, Froom was in CA, and Nick was in Ireland. Neil announced the new album is completed. Over Nick's left shoulder, in the background, was what could be the single/album title, not sure.

Professionally recorded with multiple cameras, and sounds like it will appear on the socials soon (it was available publicly during broadcast). Looks like it was pre-recorded as it should've been dark in some of those locations!

Registering to watch that was harder than it should have been.

Seeing Neil have to engage in corporate conference banter at the beginning was sort of funny, he did a good job finding interesting things to say in response to pretty banal "at Salesforce, we're all about using technology to make connections, what does this mean to you" type questions.

The songs were very much as we've been hearing from this version of CH - note perfect reproductions of the studio songs. We can debate the merits of that, but either way they're very, very good at it. In particular I was impressed by (a) how good of voice Neil is in, (b) how good Liam and Neil sound together on WWY, and (c) how good of a drummer Elroy is in general.

I wasn't 100% sure how "live" it actually was until at one point Nick hit a bum note and grinned. In fact, seeing Nick's wide eyed wonder at being able to play these songs again is my favorite part of it all.

I miss live music so much.

It's now viewable at the link given above (here). Not aware of any geographical restrictions. Enjoy!

I'm unable to view, I get stuck in a loop. It asks you to register for the event, which I did. Then when you try to watch the video it says "check your email," and you click a link in the email to confirm. But nothing changes, still won't let me watch the video. It just says "check your email" and sends another link. Oh well.

Turned out it was a browser issue (Firefox), tried it in Chrome and it worked.

Nice performance. Glad to see Neil using a proper vocal mic this time around, the sound was much better and he was in really good voice too.

But...why? Surely they don't need the money that badly. It seems an uncharacteristic thing for Neil to do.

Hi,

I was pleased to be able to watch it as it streamed thanks to Frenz .. Not like a live gig but It was nice to see them all healthy and well looking.

What a great notice @enigma of Nick's background! I reckon as the band was going to be touring NZ in November we might see the album soon ?? a guess of course.

I had a little chuckle when I realised that Mitchell Froom was playing keys on SSS as he had added them to the album version so long ago. It made me think of how many times I have heard the song live but this time it was actually being played by Mr Froom himself . Neil has gravitated to playing the original demo version when playing it live in recent years so hearing this lush version made me happy.

I think the choice of songs could have been broader as they were playing to Oz/Nz people not UK or America but they have these ones down pat now I guess.

looking forward to what comes next

Well, there’s four others in the band who may need to pay their bills 😉

They're probably just happy to play and frustrated they can't. So they dig out some well-known stuff (they can hardly do new songs on these occasions) and do that in the meantime, happily take the money (fine by me) and maybe remind some people that they really like CH and the new album might well be worth buying.

Through the combination of geography and COVID, it must be quite a strange time trying to work out how to release / present this new Crowded House record. I'm looking forward to hearing new Crowded House - it feels as though its been very quiet for a while now.

It was nice to hear the songs from the Salesforce thing, particularly liked how Weather With You sounded. I wonder if Neil, Liam, Elroy and Mitchell try and do some form of live show, I' love to see Nick there too but I wouldn't blame him if he didn't really fancy getting on a plane right now with risk of possible infection etc.

Has anyone heard anything about a date for the new record?
