CH on MTV's Most Wanted circa 1993

Hi

Most Wanted was hosted by Ray Cokes on MTV and he had CH/finn Brothers on a few times and appeared to be a big fan of theirs.

I checked Youtube but can't find what I'm looking for - the episode where they played Nails in my Feet, the song that made me take notice of them as serious artists. (I also checked Ray Cokes website but there's not much there.)

I would really love to see this clip again, if anyone has come across it. Thanks Smiler

Hey stuart - I saw those and thought NIMF would be part of the set, but I remember them performing the song in the Most Wanted studio - you know the bit beside the stairs (I think)?

Paul is that including NIMF? It would be great to hear it. yes would love to see it too. I just have a memory of Neil with his floppy TA hairstyle sitting down at the piano for this song.

Finngirl thats great. hopefully you'll hear something back.

Does Anselm know something that we don't!

PS I've just realised that was 15 years ago. I remember taping the song off the radio after hearing it on Most Haunted, and playing it to death!
Are you talking about the time they spent the whole day on MTV and wrote a song with a new member to the band (saxophonist)? A young Davina McColl was the outdoor journalist (scary!!) and the live set they played that night was superb. I have it on Video but no idea how i can share this....SORRY
Hi, I have the whole Weekend on VHS, but don't have the time to convert that the next few weeks, and worse: my videocard is bad and the quality will be not that good. When I find the time, I will try to make DVD. I think Jane is the right place then...

By the way: congratulations on hitting 2000 posts. I don't know whether that deserves an award or an invite to get out more Smiler

Definitely the latter Smiler I'll send you an email.
Just as an update, I have just been emailed this reply

hi tabatha
i am afraid mtv did not archive anything of most wanted. i think your best bet would be to try youtube, and then contact one of the many posters, some of them have an extensive collection of old stuff.
hope this helps. i wonder what you want the clip for? purely becuase you're a fan? let me know if i can be of further help.

This thread has prompted me to dig out my VHS copy of the Most Wanted Weekend. It was Mark on the piano for NIMF - he played the guitar solo on the keys - one of the most beautiful versions of that song I've heard...

I'd forgotten how funny the whole thing was - Nick painting with lit candles on his straw hat (in his neo-espressionism phase...)and Neil locked in a "cell" making up the Most Unwanted song for the performance later.

I was sent this video by a lady called Jackie from Bristol - are you still out there Jackie?! Smiler

I would love to put this onto DVD but just don't have the technology I'm afraid...

By the way, the Most Unwanted song was also performed on the tour at Manchester in November 1993, and can be found on the "Manchester Split" club CD Smiler

I wonder is it the same night I was thinking of? I think the Crowdies played 2 seperate nights (months apart).
I remember watching this midweek (only because I didnt watch TV on the weekends back then!) I was doing homework whilst watching it, so It definitely wasn't a weekend and they were only guests, and didnt have a weekend dedicated to them, on this particular night.
Does anyone know?
The episodes are dated 30/9/93 and 20/11/93 according to my drop-out ridden tape. In the earlier one they play Distant Sun and Locked Out, and Neil still has blonde highlights (his hair is red-brown in the Most Unwanted episode). Nick takes the p out of Ray Cokes for asking when the album is out while holding up a TA poster saying "out now", Neil is adjusting his clothing at the beginning of the clip. I don't have the whole show, but something involving cooking has been going on - maybe that always happened? Anyway, the adlib "If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen" in Distant Sun was most apt Smiler

Does that ring any bells Cinnamon? This one is short enough to fit on YouTube...
OK, ive uploaded it to yousendit!

I dont think im allowed to post the link directly here... so if you guys who want this wanna post emails here, ill foward the link to you by email. IF this isnt the case, somebody let me know and i'll just post the link.

It's only good for 7 days or 100 downloads so if it goes past either of those somebody will have to upload again.

I have two seperate things from Most Wanted..
there's one (as mentioned) with:
Bingo Wall Of Death(Ray interviews Nick and Paul with key questions such as 'What's your fave holiday destination?' 'Do you believe in God?' and 'When did you lose your virginity?')
Hilarious

Neil and Mark cooking, with two Auusie fans ringing up(Neil makes a reference to one of them sounding like Kylie Minogue!)

Then there's some videos shown and the Locked Out performance on acoustic guitars and bongos-save Nick on his electric bass.
I always thought that 'can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen' might have been a gentle dig at Paul, who as Neil said earlier 'has something up his arse tonight!'.
Paul was looking quite downhearted, something that Ray Cokes picked up on. It's quite a history document now with the troubles the man was suffering himself(Paul - not Ray Cokes)

I must have missed earlier in the show.

The other Most Wanted bit is a electric performance of Distant Sun. It's amazingly good.

If you get to see it, check out Paul's remarks on his Dad sending him to Sunday School(comic genius)
Oh and forgot to mention...there's Neil performing a song on acoustic called 'Ray'. He said it would never see the light of day and he just thought of it looking at Ray Cokes.
Anyroad, years later I discovered that the instrumental break in 'Sacred Cow' is the same tune. Right-I'll shut up now-too much info. Over and out from this anorak!
Is NIMF from the "Bingo Wall of Death" show? I have that one, I thought it was complete but they just play "Locked" and "Distant Sun". It's an amazingly funny (and now poignant) show and its quite long. Is the later episode of Most Wanted just as good? Haven't seen that but would love to.
the "bingo wall of death" show is priceless.

neil and mark making chicken satay.
neil to fan phoning in - "you sound a lot like kylie"

fans reply to neil - "your hair looks a lot like jason donovans!"

the legendary appearance of paul and nick on the "bingo wall of death" - where ray cokes found out that if you ask paul hester a personal question - you are likely to get "too much information" in the answer. Big Grin

paul then uses what looks like a plastic bucket for percussion during the guys acoustic set. Smiler

i'm sure i have this whole programme on video tape, and nails on my feet is not on it.

Hi alucidor , I don't remember cooking at all. I just remember them playing NIMF and I think Neil had his blonde highlights. Are you able to put it on youtube? If you are that would be great. If not don't worry Smiler
I loved this show - from what I recall it was on all afternoon; Neil was locked in a room to write a song; Nick was tasked with painting the backdrop and yes they had a film crew on the streets of London tasked with getting a busker to perform with them.

The end result of Neil's endeavours (Most Unwanted) was an excellent song - can't believe it was thrown away and hasn't surfaced since in any form? Thanks to whoever posted the clips on Youtube but has anyone got a better audio of this song in particular?
