I've uploaded three electronic instrumentals, now for something different. This is a home demo of a song I wrote called The Wicker Man. As normal I'm doing everything myself on the recording. I hope you all enjoy it, this is very different from the others, so if you didn't like them, you'll probably like this. It mainly uses acoustic instruments. As always, any feedback welcome.

Ok...... Holy Crap !!

Have to process it all,

Yep still thinking Holy Crap !!

If the beloved had put that cd on I would have thought it was Pink Floyd !! Or one of his cd's.

I'm amazed you've got that talent in you dear man!!

In other words, you know I'm not a fan of that inspired music, didn't see the Finn influence myself. I'll go the Devo get down and boogie of Bert Newton Blues. But still think that was holy strewth material !!

Do hope you get more than my reviews Camus, and definetly get yourself OUT THERE.

cheers Kelly Smiler
Ah ****, I uploaded the wrong version. I did fix that voice crack. Anyway, it's only a demo, everyone have a laugh on me at that bit Big Grin I could say it was 'emotion' but I'd be talking out a hole in me bum.

Pink Floyd eh? Can't stand them myself. I had a feeling you may not like this one Kelly (but I knew you'd appreciate it) as you liked Bert so much. Gotta branch out every now and then.

I'll let you into a little secret, the Finn reference is to get people to download it. I mentioned Eddie for Bert and heaps of people downloaded it. No Enz reference on the others, and only the diehard Camus fans downloaded it Smiler

Seriously though, I thought it was reminiscent of Neil Finn's darker material..... Oh what the hell it's unashamed prog Big Grin
Hey Camus, a big change from the White Elephant recordings - I like it, this type of music is really more what I tend to listen to gravitate to/buy in my real life. Almost shoe-gazer, but not quite, the kind of thing you need headphones to really appreciate. Ignore Kelly Smiler this has been my favorite of your uploads so far.
Thanks Hexed, glad you enjoyed it Smiler

Shoe gazing, I'm not sure if I've ever listened to any bands that fall into that genre, oh wait a minute, isn't Suede considered shoe gazing? Love Suede, a fantastic band.

I was listening to Lucky by Radiohead today, and thought this song had a similar depressing vibe to it. I love a good depressing song, the more depressing the better Big Grin

The Wicker Man is a great film, it's worth checking out, stars Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, the song isn't really based on it, more the historical Wicker Man.
I like it. Listened to it several times. Ominous rather than depressing but that’s down to the listeners state of mind. Beautiful depth and elements of optimism too. 5:34 was a bit long for me. Would be a great postamble track for Cinema, something to listen to and consolidate the experience before leaving for reality of the outside world.
Wow Camus, I really really liked Wicker Man. (and yes, loved the movie too Wink)

I'm going to have to put it on my mp3 player and listen to it more. To me, it's not so much Floyd as Moody Blues. And though it felt a bit Finnish to begin with (since you mentioned it! Smiler), it went way off that really quickly.

You shouldn't be so defensive in your topic titles imo - this is great stuff. Cool Going to have to listen to it some more....

Cheers hk, it's more my self deprecating sense of humour than defensiveness Smiler Ya gotta ring em in somehow Big Grin

Glad you enjoyed it phillo, I agree, it is a pretty ominous track. One of the things that struck me when I was writing it was if you were on fire, and you held your hands, they'd fuse together. My favourite part of the song is the instrumental bridge. I like how it comes out of nowhere, does its thing and then goes back to the song.

I'm a big fan of long songs, 3 minutes just isn't enough time to do everything I wanted to do.
Camus, Wicker Man is damn good! I love it! I love your voice and I don't think the song is at all too long, it's perfect. I can hear a little Pink Floyd and more Moody Blues, but I just think it's original.

Do you have more like this? I like the White Elephant stuff too. I'd love to have a CD of all your stuff! Big Grin

Trace
Thankyou Tracy, you've made my day (I mean that). I've never been that confident in my singing abilities. I have a whole album worth of songs like The Wicker Man, and several of the electronic stuff. The electronic stuff ranges from what I've put up here to soundscapes and more experimental pieces.
this really should be sent to JJJ. It kinda reminds me of the Finns meets World Party meets Badly Drawn Boy meets - erm - Camus! great stuff.
Woohoooo more reviews !! Phillo I instantly thought of the end of a movie thing too ! It was alot to process at the time.

You've got more??? Hurry up. (sorry I know that's not your thing!)

Funny this week at work was playing BERT and straight after it, I had the Dr Who theme done live, no idea who by, but bloody excellent all the same had quite a good time. Big Grin
Had a few people round yesterday arvo for drinks. Conversation moved to what new music have you found. I had Wicker Man and some other new MP3's in CDA format so that I could listen to them "properly". When Wicker Man was playing the sun was setting west across the bay behind the You Yang Ranges and the walls of the living room were orange. We played it several times and
Camus, you made one of the ladies cry. Smiler
A combination of a great musician, some good wine and a situation.
If you have more music please post, but more importantly get a demo off to the likes of Triple J.
I've listened to this song ALOT more now.

Its bloody brilliant.

Must be the bridge part you were talking about earlier in the thread, when you do the ahhhhhhh bit and the music swoons up and down, talk about fill your ears nicely. Yes I'm so technical.
Camus, I thought your singing was brilliant!! Different in the very, very good way Smiler There should be more music like this out there, if there is, I can't find it... Roll Eyes not that I've been looking since stumbling upon the brother's Finn and having such a huge catalog to devour.

Definately get it out to somewhere like JJJ, can't do no harm. I'll have to go looking for the "others" that were mentioned Big Grin

"all the flickering lights"
I've listened to this song a dozen times now and am loving it. I'm thinkin to myself, "I'd be perfectly happy if this was on the upcoming Crowdies album"

"all the flickering lights"
Hey Camus,

Popped over to those sites, had a listen to both of the songs uploaded there. Must say I am quite impressed!!! Big Grin Great job. I really, really like The Wicker Man, but I adore Eternal Love!!! There's something about it... familiar yet different from anything out there. If that makes no sense, I apologize! But you are talented sir, I will give you that!Big Grin
Glad you're getting discovered slowly. Now off you're behind and get that myspace thing happening.

Have you thought about how'd you'd play these live? Is it all tweaked into your new toys? A one man band thing??

Ha! So I wasn't the first one to get on you about that, Camus! Wink Looking forward to that Space when you get around to it. Smiler
