I'm flying in from the UK for the great man's show in Boston. What's the Avalon like for gigs ?. It seems quite an early start time for a Saturday night. Is it a big venue and where's the best place to listen/watch ?. And most importantly, where can I drink with Neil before the gig, just to go over the set list/tune up/talk about Crowded House reunions/etc ?

Welcome in advance to Boston! The Avalon is more or less a ballroom-a fairly large standing room only dance floor in front of the stage, surrounded by banquettes--usually reserved for VIPs--along the sides and back. If the show seems early, it's because on a Saturday night, they want to clear out the concertgoers as early as possible, and let the disco dance party begin.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Tina
Many thanks for taking the time to reply. It's looks like it's located not to far from Berkeley, so I'm assuming there's few good students bars nearby. Couldn't possibly face Dick's Last Resort again !. I saw a girl with her piano and guitar in there a few weeks ago. She was hopelessly trying to compete against the Monday Night Football game on the huge screen nearby. Let's hope there's no enormo screen at the Avalon.

By the way, why is it called football ?. The only thing I saw being kicked with a foot was a few water buckets on the sidelines.
Avalon is basically a bar with a stage and an area for people to stand. It is a decent place for an intimate club performance. It is right across the street from Fenway Park - if you need a landmark to help find it. I am going to the show as well and looking forward to it. It is not very close to Berkely but a stone's throw from Boston University.

I was refering to Berkely College of music, but, hey, I'm from out of town.... . So it's a bar with a stage - sounds like the perfect place to get near to the Finnmeister. See you all next Saturday - I'll be the one shouting for "Hole in the river" or "Tall Trees". And may a cover of "No More Heroes" by The Stranglers
