Well, this was an agonizing decision. I found all this ultra-rare Enz vinyl at Utopia Records on George Street — when the remasters were just days away! I ended up picking up the vinyl (my first major LP harvest), though I did have enough left to get Frenzy.
Anyway, here's what I got:
>> A Chrysalis U.S. promo pressing of Mental Notes (i.e. Second Thoughts). Funnily enough, this version still has the song "Mental Notes" on it. I wonder if that was re-recorded, too.
>> A Chrysalis U.S. promo pressing of Dizrythmia. Both look to be in very good condition.
>> What I thought was an original Mushroom pressing of Mental Notes, but — going by the label — it looks to be from the early-mid 1980s instead. Still, it's in great condition.
>> An A&M U.S. pressing of Time and Tide — still sealed! I don't want to open it, for some reason. Just feels wrong. It's still got the sticker on the wrapper, too, proclaiming "NEW SPLIT ENZ — 'SIX MONTHS IN A LEAKY BOAT' — 'DIRTY CREATURE' — 'HELLO SANDY ALLEN.' "
>> A Mushroom copy of Practical Jokers, by The Swingers. I'd never seen this anywhere before. Cool design on the inner sleeve.
>> A promo MCA copy of Counting The Beat, the U.S. version of Practical Jokers.
Oh, and a nice copy of Tears For Fears' The Hurting, but that's beside the point.
I'm happiest with the three promo copies I found, because as far as I know, they were among the least popular in the U.S., so I imagine they'd be rarer.
So, what have your proudest Enz vinyl finds been so far?
