On the eve of the first night of the tour, I was taking a moment to feel lucky and to feel some definite sympathy for our friends in Europe and Australia/New Zealand who won't get to join us for this stint, but I know you'll be here in spirit, if not actually HERE!

Now, I ask my fellow North Americans:

Which shows are you attending?
(for me, DC and Boston)

And how are you preparing?
(for me, playing every single Split Enz, Crowded House, Finn Brothers, and Neil Finn CD I have, almost to the point of inciting an office riot!)

Which shows?

Philly and Boston (DC too if my willpower crumbles)

How am I preparing?

Um...I'm utterly unprepared. Last time, I was completely prepared and had all the right clothes packed, all the right equipment and car-stereo-CD's ready.

Part of the reason: it's just too darned cold, and I don't feel like doing ANYTHING (and not looking forward to standing in LINE!!!). Another part of the reason: Harder for me to get excited this time, because last time I saw Neil, I got onstage with him, and gawd...how dya top THAT? Probably impossible. Wink

I'll be looking forward to read others' "How I'm Getting Psyched" lists, because I could use the help.

Shows: Philly and Boston -- gonna make a weekend of it. Briefly thought about making a mid-week run to Detroit or Toronto (4-5 hours), but the logistics were just too hairy. Getting home at 3-4am and going to work the next day was just not a good idea.

Preparations (ignoring logistical tedium like making hotel reservations and putting the dog in the kennel, obviously): Well, to avoid any Harcourt-ian surprises in either direction, I picked up the new Rhett Miller CD as well as an Old 97's CD. And I LIKE, I LIKE! Really looking forward to seeing him open for Neil.

I'll probably watch "7WC" one more time tonight or tomorrow, just to get one last live taste, but then I'm going go the opposite direction from you and enter Finn Black-Out, where I actually stop listening to any Finn music, so I can clear my palate for this weekend... Big Grin

I'm attending just the Chicago show, on Feb 5 (CHICAGO...on FEB 5?!?! I really gotta hand it to Neil, he's leaving summer at home to travel into the hell of Chicago winter...that's dedication to his fans.)

To prepare for it, I'm kinda trying not to think about it too much. I get too excited. There is one thing that could really change the whole day for me, but I don't want to say anything and jinx it.

Have fun this weekend you all!
Which shows are you attending?
Portland (Feb 15) and Seattle (Feb 16)!

And how are you preparing?
- Concert tickets bought
- Airline ticket and accommodation booked
- Money converted into US funds (ouch!)
- Started packing my suitcase (lightweight waterproof coat, comfy shoes for standing and dancing, camera, assorted paraFINNalia)

Trying to not get too wound up at this point still have a couple of weeks to go. Cant wait to read everyones reviews!!

Which shows are you attending?

The first NYC show, and also the Philly show.

And how are you preparing?

I'm currently oscillating between total Finn immersion and trying not to think about it. But lets face it, it's two days away, how can I NOT think about it at this point. *laughs*

I really can't wait. Big Grin

I'm hoping and praying that the friend I'm going with can leave work very early both days. I'm also hoping and praying that the forecasts for "light snow" on Wednesday and "light wintry mix" for Friday GO AWAY or at least don't take a turn for the worse.
Attending: The San Francisco show.

Preparing: Well, I'm NOT doing what I did last time (running a contest and compiling a book of fan responses to my many Neil questions) - because well, I've done that now and I can move on. Though I'm tempted. I really am. It was hard to make myself only buy one ticket this time. It really was. But in getting the ticket I got to go back to the theatre where I first got to meet Neil last summer Smiler Frowner Red Face Big Grin Wink Razzer (all at once!)

This time I'm... playing it cool, planning to leave work early to get there for plenty of sidewalk time, and bringing a book b/c last time I got stuck between two conversations in line and didn't have any fun till the show started.
Goin to the Vancouver show, the last show of the tour, and I have been pumped up since November /December when I first heard the news.

Not doing anything special to prepare, just merely listening to Neil/CH/SE etc. each day, all day long all the while ignoring almost everything else in my CD collection (except the new Proclaimers "Best of", awesome IMHO). Gotta make sure I brush up religiously on all his lyrics for almost every conceivable song, if you know what I mean.....

Just gotta race over to the show after coaching a basketball game at 4:00pm that night. It'll be a long, long night, but the concert will keep me hyper for a full week before and after. Maybe Neil will bring us good luck for our game (I think we will need it).

Again, here's a remind to everyone that Neil is on the Conan O'Brien show this coming Friday night/Sat am. Yippee ................
hehe

i am but a poor lass.
only going to the LA show with a good friend of mine and recent neil convert, but plan to make the most of it, yes yes.

still awaiting my tickets in the mail.
hope they're still pit tickets when they get here. Razzer

how am i preparing?
listening to a grip of bootlegs along with all the studio albums. not much else.

look forward to meeting some of you there!

Don't DO that to me Stepinmyshoes !!!!
You had me freaking out there that I got the days wrong ! It is Saturday at the Avalon, isn't it??

As you can all tell, I am totally unprepared (which isn't like me) but I head off to Boston tomorrow - couple of days of work business first and then a whole weekend of Funn. The other half flies in on Friday to join in.

Am Soooo excited !!!!!!!!!!!
Tonite's the night!!! We're only going to the DC show--sorry you won't be there Heidi, but enjoy the shows you do go to!

Preparation-we're taking care of sushi details and childcare, and getting psyched to stand in line while it snows and sleets!

I agree that Neil is a good sport to venture in these cold climes (sp) while leaving summer behind! Friends were visiting family in NZ in the last couple of weeks and were raving about the weather! It's a good thing they didn't take ours with them there!

Have fun!

Tacey
Dear DC People:

I must admit that the voice of karma is calling out to me in a mighty way today. You guys saw that last show at the 9:30...(the last Neil show I saw...) and I can't help but think Neil felt it too, because he CHOSE to START the tour from there! (How powerful is that, seriously!) Add to that the fact that going to see Neil live, while in DC, would be a most magnificent way to deliberately miss the President's speech tonight...and then Peter had to go and say that tickets are still available.....ARRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!

While it's looking like I won't be there, I'm SOOOOO having pangs, and I'll be there in spirit. Write reviews please!!!!!!

(smoochies, h)
What shows?

Detroit and Chicago. My Friends and I did Chicago and Toronto over the summer. I had to be talked out of doing Toronto this time. Being that I planned a long vacation in March.

How am I preparing?

I'm here! And I have all my CH NF SE CDs in my car and recently revisited 7WC!

I am in disbelief that he is playing but 2 blocks from where I am typing right now, a week from now!!! Yikes!

Jules
I am attending the Portland and Seattle shows.

I am only preparing by cleaning my house, as fellow forum member Joanna is staying with me (I swear, it'll be clean by February 15th!)

I am also racking my brain trying to think of something clever to do to get my requests to Neil (ala paper airplanes, although I could not top the frosted cookies from the Seattle show last July). I am also trying to figure out what the heck to wear, since it will be freezing outside waiting in line, yet hot as all get out inside the theatres, as neither has AC and I'll be dancing up a storm!
Show: the first NYC show (tomorrow night)

Preparation: None

I am feeling decidedly underwhelmed by just about everything right now, despite the fact that this will be my first-ever trip to New York City, and the first time I've seen Neil solo (in fact, the first time I've seen him live in almost ten years - and the last time was at a Split Enz concert, March 1993.)

Has anyone any "rev-me-up" tips? Please... I am in danger of sinking into complete and utter apathetic depression, here (if I'm not there already)... Confused
I'll be at the Seattle show, too. I would start packing my suitcase now, but that would require a few (10?) loads of laundry to be done first. Other than that, I suppose I'll have to buy a plane ticket soon, and then I'll start the Finn music rotation in earnest.

I still have that airplane cookie in my freezer (I have "Anytime"). Razzer It's past the point of being tempting to eat. I'll probably bequeath it to my future children.

Woo! 18 days!
Going to the Philly show!

"Excited" doesn't even begin to cover how I am feeling! I'm a little stressed about the snow/sleet/ice/rain the weather gurus are talking about for Friday night. Haven't done anything different regarding my music listening. CH & SE in my mini-van and NF in the house & computer (my poor Paul Weller & Style Council collection - gathering dust lately). Buying a new outfit for the occasion & praying my feet don't hurt too much by the nights end!

Patti
show: Chicago

preparation: Listening to NF, CH, SE even more than usual. Getting my house clean for my parents to babysit my kids. Reminding my husband, not a fan, about how much he enjoyed the last Chicago show. Trying to think of a unique way to get a request to Neil. Pondering what I'm going to wear due to the cold and trying to accept the fact that I'll have to wear a coat.

See everyone in Chicago!
Shows: Portland, Seattle & Vancouver!

Preparation: I WAS trying not think about it!! Hehehe....so much for that idea! Now I'm freakin out!!!! LOL

Hey annefrancis I'm doing the same....Sweet Secret Peace will be staying with me the night of the Portland gig!! Clean, clean, clean!!

pinahead, you got a cookie too?? You must've been right by me last July!! I've got "Distant Sun"......and you're SO right about the temptation to eat it, but it has now been lovingly "preserved" for future generations....!
LOL
i can't believe you lunatics are still keeping my cookies!!!! and i thought i was nuts for making them....the cookies did make an impression on him, but he never did play an actual request...he just pretty much stuck to the set list...aaagghhh!!! will be trying something else at this next set of shows...wish me luck...i'll get to see him in nyc(tomorrow!!), chicago (home), san francisco (in-and-out burger, yeah!!) and seattle (wild ginger, woo yeah!!)....have fun and stay warm, everyone!!!

Just saw that a In-Store appearance has been scheduled at Amoeba on Feb 13 at 6:30PM!! It'll be tight but I think it's possible to see that show and still head down to the Warfield in time to catch Rhett afterwards.
FINALLY......I finally know who made those cookies! THANK YOU, JACKIE!!! lol Thanks to you, I had an extraordinary Neil experience! Neil was reading the names on the cookies as he went, everybody being VERY polite and non-grabby. When he got to me, he said, "Ok, Distant Sun....here you go!" and handed me the cookie! I mean like.....wow, Neil GAVE me something!

H o w c o o l i s t h a t ?

Oh my god that's an amazing story!! Neil should know about that! Wow. Well, welcome, we're glad you're here and certainly glad you have such a story to tell!
thanks so much.

its been a hard year or so to say the least! the listening to neil thing is really true...i went to the counselling provided by the company I WAS ONLY TEMPING FOR!!! and then the liberty fund stuff for a while - and it wasn't until i picked up CH again & then discovered the releases of Try Whistling This, 7 Worlds & One Nil that (BIG SIGH!!!) THIS makes me feel better!

now whenever i'm having a particullary bad time of it thinking about that day or just general agitation due to living in NYC i just put on my walkman & get a dose on NEIL! a bandaid for the soul! Wink
