Hi John.

When you say "it", I assume you mean the SE DVD. About a week ago when I called Mushroom/Festival records NZ, they said that the original batch of DVD's were missing a componet or something along those lines. It's NZ release date is now the 25th November.

Hope that helps a bit.
I know some city stores were expecting a stock order around 4.30-4.45 this afternoon.
H'Canary you made me laugh, I checked HMV Chapel St in the morning and made that girl look it up, all throughout the day people we know were calling HMV and asking for it- so she was probably insane by the time you got to her. It's the girl that has the habit of typing in split endz she dies it every time on the computer...and she freaks as it never comes up.....I am evil!!!!!
HMV Chapel Streets phone number is 95109277 if anyone wants to ask if they have the Enz DVD in stock...
No nothing was missing from the DVD's it was simplya s I riginally said , NZ Mushroom were hoping to get them in time for their TV adverts etc, I did tell them they wouldn't get them on time but they already had the adverts booked etc. Remember stock comes into Australia and then I'd say off to NZ so NZ would get it second...by two or three days. So 25th would be sensible...all parts were fine though as we signed off on them, the Enz DVD had very few corrections to be made....which was a bit of a blessing. The Skyhook one a lot and that did cause a delay.
Marbecks Friday me thinks, Monday at latest.
HMV start sending out their mail order stock
on Wednesday.....so they could be the online store to order from overseas fans....who still need a copy of the Enz DVD.

Well, I would but I don't know what to tell you!

The picture and sound quality has scrubbed up well across the board (I'm happy with it, anyway)...content wise everybody is familiar with what's on it, so no surprises there.

As for anything else, I'd be spoiling the surprise. Much fun to be had poking around the menus, which do look fantastic. I haven't been right through everything myself, yet.

Maybe if you've got a specific question I could answer it, but PG has pretty much covered everything in the last couple of months anyway.

It will be worth the wait. So much stuff I had heard of but never seen.
So JEALOUS of you lot...

what is with this stupid "regions" stuff anyway? And why does there not seem to be such a beast as a "multi-region DVD player" available in the USA?

Every time I ask, it's like, I get this blank stare as if "why would anyone WANT to see anything that isn't available in America?"

It makes me SCREAM!!!!!!

*crawls off to the corner to sulk, while singing the words to "Chocolate Cake"...*

- yes I came to this country for love, but I sure as hell don't have to love everything in it -

Aussie/NZ'er till the end!

So that companies can prevent people from ordering stuff cheaper from overseas. Frowner

See above. However, there are multi-region DVD players and you might be able to get them in the USA. I came very close to ordering a Malata which also converts between PAL and NTSC, but at the time there were technical problems with it, so I didn't. It's a Chinese player so you might investigate Chinese video stores or look into ordering it online. A good place to check for info - I think - is the International DVD forum at www.dvdtalk.com
Hi Chris,

thanks for the help. I may just look into getting one of those Chinese players... depends if they're any good, of course. Frowner

I guess I'm just really annoyed because even multi-region VHS players were common in Australia (for instance, my video player, bought back in 1993, was both PAL and NTSC compatible) -

And yet here in the USA, not a single multi-region player can I find... videotape OR DVD.

It's really unfair. Close to 30 years (oh all right, at least 18 anyway) of videotape collecting (and recording - including my TV journalism showreel), all down the tubes because I had the effrontery to move to another country?

Waaaaaah. Frowner Frowner Frowner
My Da bought me a DVD player for my birthday, and guess what, it plays both PAL and NTSC. It's from WalMart, who imports a lot of their cheapo electronics from China. So don't tear your hair out, Fiona (or anyone else)!
The cool thing is, I have no DVD's yet!! I was going to buy the Neil and CH DVD's today online, but then I heard that the tickets were going on sale!!!
kia kaha (and other fellow US people) don't despair!

multi region DVD players are available, but mostly online. do a search for "multi region DVD" at www.google.com and you'll find a few stores who have them. I can recommend world gift center - I bought a PAL/NTSC converter and multi system VCR from them last year and they know what they are talking about. still, a decent player will run $200-$300.

I've been doing a lot of research and found that I can just buy a DVD drive for my computer (around $40) and WinDVD software (just bought it on ebay for $6) and I'll be able to play all region discs plus PAL and NTSC on my computer.

So there are options out there, you just have to know where to look . . .
I'm still waiting for it to come into Sanity where I live. I asked the girl at the desk if she had ordered any in and she said that they were ordering in 1 copy. 1 COPY! me thinks my chances of finding it here now have become very slim...I'll ring them tonight and find out if it's come in yet. If so, I'll shoot down there and grab it b4 anyone else can take it!!!

One copy only? Are the staff of Sanity music insane or taking drugs? Split Enz were and are massive in Australia. This should be huge, the first ever Split Enz DVD. And they order one copy!

Are they trying to sabotage sales or are they just really mother****ing stupid? I just don't get people like that.

I know, I know. I said that to the girl and she said that she'd never even heard of the enz!

because I live in country victoria the wouldn't order as many copies but 1 is a bit extreme I know. I'll just have to be quick off the mark I supppose!
Yeah stock is slowly finding it's way into the stores, about one third have been sold already
so it's slow and steady. Most Sanity stores will order in batches of 5, I seem to remember there was some weird dispute or something with Sanity/Mushroom- not sure if that is still the case...HOWEVER no matter where you live (in Australia) if your CD store sells DVDS you can ask them to order it in and just pay a deposit.
HMV order in larger amounts- batches of 30.
HMV City (Melbourne) ordered 30, have sold around half already.
Here is the cat. no. and details so they will have no excuse not to get it in for you. Just say you will leave a deposit...
Split Enz- "Split Enz"
Available on FMR
Cat. no 335828
We have ahd about 70 or 80 emails so far from Frenz who have it , and not one complaint *grin*. So it is finding it's way to peoples homes.
Cheers
Peter

Thanks HairyCanary.
As I have never traded, most of the DVD will be new to me (which is cool in a way) and it's 25 years since I saw the Sight & Sound when it was orginally shown.

I guess in a way, it's that & the Spellbound documentrary I look forward to most.
How is the S&S footage 25 years on, any problems?
Is it stereo? What tracks did finally make it from the show (lost track a little) and was it 15 minutes?

Anything else you care to throw at me review wise (or anyone else!) I'd love to read it as, like I say, chances are I haven't seen it! Roll Eyes

ThankZ!

Oooo - Where in Indiana?
That's my second home, even got married there last August! (Valparaiso)
Been visiting annually for 20 years... Smiler
Hi Spoons,

Yeah, like you I've never traded so pretty much everything except the video clips were new to me.

The S&S footage is in great shape. I've not played it on my telly yet, just on the computer so far. Still, I've got a pretty good sized monitor, so I think picture quality is quite good; sound is Dolby Digital Stereo 2.0 according to the DVD box. All I know is it sounds very nice on my 6.1 speakers, even if it's not made for them. Tracks are True Colours (Let's Rock) and The Woman who Loves You, with a bit of an introduction to the band at the end. Yes, that section is 15 minutes.

I've spotted a typo in one of the menus. See if you can find it Big Grin (Actually it's pretty obvious).

Oooh, my 100th post. Yay for me!

Actually, I think its Mushroom who are insane as they only pressed 8000 copies.

8000 copies.

Most of us have been waiting for this since we first found out about Split enz. Being a wee young thing myself, its not that long, but for some people, it could be most of their lives. So WHY do Mushroom think its best to only press 8000??

Surely they can make guaranteed sales of at least 10,000 I would think theres a strong possibility that they can make more than that.

Anyone know how many units Spellbound sold?
As the success of such things dictates how many DVD's they bother to make (as they know they can sell at least as many as that did as people that bought that are likely to go straight out and buy the DVD).

Though I know pressing less is better than going with too many and having all this stock you can't shift and lose money on. Because they can always do another run....

Oh and remember if there are only 8000 copies it is possible Sanity were beaten to it by places like HMV. The record co does a deal with HMV in exchange for racking & window space, as well as the possiblity of appearing in Co-op adverts etc etc. So, Sanity might have just missed the boat nationally - having just re read Peters post - or been too cocky with the record co and try to demand they get it at a certain price. The record co knows there are plenty of other places out there that will fall over themselves to stock it so Mushroom really don't care and take the business elsewhere - Which all means Sanity, knowig they can make a profit from it so want to get at least some copies, then have to pay more to the record co (or just the price the Company demand) to get the DVD and therefore, as it costs them more and they're losing advertising etc they don't buy as many. Sounds to me that Mushroom just have a savvy sales dept. Wink
Yeah I always think there will be three mistakes at least on a project this size...
yep one typeo, another is that I blew it as far the Aussie discography as I forgot to put that the I See Red reissue single was from the History Never Repeats Best Of release (I spotted that a few minutes ago) it is in the separate singles section....so not ignored totally...

Re: Jeremy's Post regarding Sanity and stock... I think the problem lies with a small "feud" that happened between Mushroom/Sanity...quite a few months back, so it could be why Sanity only order small portions of stock- just small time political nothing against the Enz. Not Sabotage just weirdness between label and a chain of stores (: I think...

8000 pressing is a standard..actually I'm wrong 5000 is a standard pressing...so it's a bit more. Same for our Skyhooks DVD 8000.

Well the Enz Videos have only sold 4000 units (yep weird especially with the CD sales being so high) so maybe 8000 is a fair call on this.

Spellbound has sold 35004 units at last check but CD sales do not relate to Video/DVD sales (hence the Best Of Video only doing 4000 units). I think the Sanity thing is just some other B.S. that went down ...I do remember Sanity removing all Mushroom artists from shop displays or something awhile back....kinda weird and of course the artists are the ones that suffer.....no display, less sales, less $ coming in. Could be Sanity wanting a better deal- honestly not sure... in the end if the fans have options to buy it I am happy....I know one store that has sold out of its first batch...so that is good.
PG
Yeah I am not a big fan of Sanity, part of the reason why we didn't put them on the recommended list. Just between this list and myself, I heard a rumor that the person in charge of the DVD area of Sanity is really only interested in MOVIES and not all that caring around MUSIC related DVD's (considering they are a Music store that's a tad weird)....
Still I know they have ordered stock so I guess all Sanity stores will have it....not sure why their stock ordering system is slower then HMV etc.....maybe they ordered late? At least all stores will have it in time for the big Xmas shopping spree's.
A good day for us here as our 2nd DVD for oz Seventies band Skyhooks just arrived at our office so we have two projects put to bed.
I'm happy.
Peter
With projects like the DVD, Spellbound etc I prefer the guys to have a say on what goes on, and in Next Exits case what doesn't. None of the band members wanted it...which is totally fine for me, it's a pretty ****e clip. I'm happy for whatever they want.
I guess it's why Next Exit always ends up in the Top 5 most disliked clips, it's pretty atrocious and so far not one email from anyone really missing it. (:

Congrats Peter and well done. Must feel good, after all the work you and everyone else put into it. From this fan's eyes, the DVD is superbamundo. Nice to get quality footage of stuff I already had (Sight & Sound, Charley, and Spellbound) + the stuff that was new to me was a real treat (Body & Soul from Countdown is so great). Hopefully, more people will get to appreciate the True Colours concert version of Charley. I've always felt that it was the best they ever did.

The completist in me would liked to have seen Next Exit but other than that, I'm not a big fan of the clip and didn't lose a second's sleep. The Beatles didn't even put all their clips on the Anthology series and that was 12 hours long!

I could talk about my wish list for future endeavours but this server doesn't have enough memory and it seems very greedy at this point so I'll just sign of with a very big thankyou and a blissful smile. Smiler
I just got my copy! FANTASTIC! couldn't help but laugh at Neil in the spellbound footage! It's a bit weird navigating your way around everything. but it's fantastic anyhow. Brought back memories for my mum. (she still knows all the words to I hope I never!) Smiler

Theres two hidden features. The audio track Lord Nord is on the egg marked 2000. And the video clip for Things is on the third and last clipz page. It's located as a small egg at the top left hand side of the menu.

Enjoy.

I've just spent the last 30 minutes trying to find this third hidden feature and I've had no luck at all. Is it on the clipz pages, because thats where I've been searching and can only find Lord Nord on clipz page one and Things on page three. There are these two egg shaped icons on the second clipz , but they won't let you click on them.

Help please, this is really pissing me off. What is the third hidden feature anyway?
I recieved mine this morning, from http://netcd.co.nz who must have hired Hedwig the Owl to deliver my copy as it made it from NZ in 3 days! Highly recommended CD/DVD online service.
Haven't played it yet - I no longer have a DVD player so need to wait til the weekend and see if I can play it on the PLaystation ot b.f.'s house - if anyone can tell me how to access the eggs on a PS2 that would be fab!
