A tribute to CH songs

It's a good idea if the people recording the songs AREN'T Donny Osmond or Sixpence None the Richer. Somebody respectable could give a new spin. And while no one could outshine the originals (IMHO), perhaps hearing truly talented musicians record the songs would wake people (by people I mean the non-believers. tee hee) up to just how fantastic the songs are.

i think it'd be ok as long as nobody does DDIO.

Here's an interesting question: Let's say (again hypothetically) that you were placed in control of selecting not only the songs to be recorded but the artists to record them. What would your dream artist and track list be?

Turin Brakes, Semisonic, Nick Cave, Ben Folds, Neal Casal, Tom Mc Rae, Badly Drawn Boy, Shawn Colvin, Gemma Hayes, Feeder, Foo Fighters, Ron Sexsmith, Reindeer Section, David Gray, Elvis Costello, New Order, Morrissey (the revenge !)....

Abby Dobson / Leonardo's Bride, Jebediah, Michael Spiby / The Badloves, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Imbruglia, REM / Michael Stripe, Coldplay, Travis / Fran Healey, Roxette, Blur / Damon Albran, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Elvis Presley, George Harrison, The Bee Gees.

Can't think of EVERYONE I'd want to cover a CH song right now but one jumps into my mind. Aimee Mann covering something like FAYF or Love This Life would be heaven. I'll try to think of some more later....too sleepy

I'd like to hear Elvis Costello do "Into Temptation" since I read that he loves that song and wishes he would have wrote it....

Foo Fighters could probably do a kickin version of Locked Out or Fame Is.

Coldplay doing Kare Kare, or Fingers Of Love.

A few female singers have covered Better Be Home Soon, but I'd love to hear Sarah McLachlan try it out.

Yes! Foo Fighters could definately do Fame Is. I can hear it right now. I don't know about Locked Out though. And Coldplay would sound lovely doing either of those, and could possible give a nice new spin on Fingers of Love (I think it's a bit boring). They would sound good on any Together Alone track (especially Pineapple Head). Elton John could do Left Hand or Better Be Home. The Breeders would sound nice on Kill Eye. Nora Jones on Four Seasons. I am at work and can't think of any more at the moment, but I'm sure I'll be back...

I whole-heartedly agree about Nora Jones! Her doing 4SIOD would be smooth as all hell.

However, Elton? I'm afraid he would come across so cheesy on either of those, it might ruin the songs for me permanantly.

Though it would be kinda groovy given the right treatment. But since when has Eminem given anything decent treatment? On the other hand, he did well with Dido...

I've never been a fan of Chocolate Cake, but was just thinking how Oingo Boingo would be able to pull off the spirit of that tune.

Brilliant Skippy! I'm not really a big fan of tribute cds as a rule but I think Rufus would sound wonderful on either of these or Nails In My Feet.

The Elvis Costello suggestion for Temptation was a good one too but I suspect that'd be more so an interesting interpretation than a pretty one. I just don't think Elvis's voice is suited to that song. In My Command however...

I'll join you in the major minority, Brandi. I think covers are great in a live situation, and it would be interesting to hear some of the covers people have mentioned at one of the artists' shows, but I've heard very, very few tribute albums that are even listenable (IMHO ).

I don't like the idea either.

I could see AC/DC do Love You Till The Day I Die, though

In my country, Crowded House is not a famous band. So a Tribute to CH will be useful. It can be a great opportunity for people to discover their songs.
I've tried to contact french artists about it. I've got a lot of positive answers. Time will tell...
