God I'm so glad I logged on tonight. Been away for a bit and what a great bit of news to return to. Been missing going to gigs and meeting up with all you folks. So I have booked my tickets and am trying to persuade my single mum sister to go. We have had the 'Its a school night' excuse. 'I'm too old' excuse 'I cant afford a babysitter' excuse and finally the 'Oh my god if its standing I will never make it after a day at work' excuse. So dear friends I am on a mission to reassure my tired...

Ooh, I'd love to go ! Not just for Neil , I'm a huge Bic fan as well... saw her almost two years ago at Sheperds Bush, great show! But this date is impossible for me to go Middle of the week in just a couple of weeks, can't get that organised I'm afraid... Hope Bic will be back to do a 'proper' European (UK?) tour after her NZ and Oz dates. I'll definitely be there then

The reason i joined this forum is to get to the bottom of this dvd mystery. Many google searches brought me here. I remember seeing the gig on TV here in N ireland about 9 yaers ago i guess, and it was such an unexpected treat. I had been a fan before them but hadnt seen them do anything live before that. Surely after all this hype from fans they should release a ten year aniversery edition ? Or is because the tapes have gone missing or something ? Anyway nice to meet you all, this seems...

I've been as confounded over the years as the original poster about the recurring SE reunions w/o any CH collaborations. Sadly, that day really is done now. Threetles don't equal Beatles and Nick, Neil and Mark do not CH make. As to why the diff between the rate of regrouping between the two bands, I guess I've started to chalk this to the mysterious and not to be understood by any but themselves relationship of the Brothers Finn, the positions they held in the respective bands, etc. One...

Perhaps it's the opposite - that Crowded House was in fact so special to Neil that he thought that any reunion couldn't live up to the time when the band were an ongoing thing? Either for himself, the band or the fans. That's just an idea, because I don't know him, but it's how I feel about it. Without meaning any disrespect for those who are so excited about the forthcoming Split Enz shows (after all I flew to the other side of the world myself for the Millennium gigs) I think such an...

Damaged People if you have a point just say it. This and your previous posts seem to indicate to me that you don't really have any other point other than you like Crowded House better than Split Enz and Crowded House were better than Split Enz and that you just wish to antagonise people and stir up trouble. Okay, your point is made, again, SO now rather than "Crowded House are are better band" why exactly do you think there has not been a CH reunion after 10 years? If you don't want to...

this whole discussion reminds me of something George Harrison once said in response to "Will the Beatles get back together?"....he said something along the lines of "Not as long as John Lennon is dead..." Bands don't seem as anal about re-uniting years after breaking up these days as they did back in the an earlier era--and as sad as I am that the Beatles didn't reform for a concert tour--I'm also glad in a way that they never did. Their legacy seems somewhat more pure because they never did...

For myself, I think there may be three basic reasons why we've never had a full CH reunion (bear in mind that they HAVE reunited - Cold Live at The Chapel, f'rinstance): 1) The relations between band members. Obvious but, y'know... Split Enz broke up because Tim wanted to persue a solo career and Neil didn't want to lead Tim's band. No-one fell out. CH split - I guess - because Neil and Nick had a fractious relationship (did Nick get sacked once?) and once Paul had left, Neil felt...

I agree with a lot of the previous posts. Paul's gone and with him so has the essence of CH. I'm sure Neil will work with Nick and Mark again but for me it really wouldn't be CH. As far as SE not selling out in the UK goes, I'd be there in a flash and so would a lot of others. They were so much more than a one hit wonder to any Finn fan, after all, to understand the future you must appreciate the past.

But then wasn't the Enz With A Bang tour meant to close the Enz book? I can't see Crowded House going on tour again, but I don't see why they can't reform for a one-off like an ARIA Hall Of Fame induction. I do think it's too soon, though. It's less than ten years since they broke up, and Split Enz had to wait more than 20! I also think a Hall Of Fame induction so soon after Paul's death, would be insensitive.

I always felt that Split Enz had left things far more open after all their last album was called See Ya Round, indicating that they weren't necessarily saying their last goodbyes. I don't think it is too soon after Paul's death to induct Crowded House into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, I rally don't see the logic in saying that it would be insensitive, the whole idea of the HOF is to honour bands and people that have left an indelible mark on the Australian musical landscape and Crowded House have...

The CD playing before the show may have been Anika Moa, not sure though. Great show, Bic sounded fantastic. Her voice is even more penetratingly beautiful live. The only other time I've seen her play live was at the Albert Hall opening for the Finn Bros last year which was obviously a tough night given Paul Hesters death a few days before and during which Bic appeared absolutely petrified by the whole RAH experience. But at Dingwalls Bic appearead relaxed and bouyant, joking with the...

There's also MuchMoreRetro, which might be a likely venue for such a thing. Unfortunately probably few of us have access to it. It plays old videos from the 70's, 80's and 90's. We had a free preview of it while back on Rogers and it was pretty neat to see all the old videos. There was a healthy representation of the Enz and Crowded House. I didn't subscribe after the free preview finished, but it was tempting. It has a web site here: http://www.muchmoreretro.com/

Interesting question MP... not one to answer straightaway! But if you look at the Rolling Stones (something I try to avoid these days!), Deep Purple, and a lot of other bands who mainly remained the same after one member left, then reluctantly I'd have to say yes. With the exception of course of Queen and INXS, I find that really embarassing and I'd never go to see any of them. But especially with the line-up you are suggesting, with Nick and Mark, and who knows, maybe even Tim!I think that...

I won't argue with Camus. If Neil wanted to call it Crowded House he's well within his right to but I think Neil is quite prepared to let the name rest. If he did, I wouldn't be upset. After all, Paul did leave the band in 1994 and the band carried on for another 2 years. Sure the band was a different beast but if eyewitnesses are to be believed in the book Something So Strong, the musicianship was outstanding and it really prompted Nick to come out of his shell on stage. The live tracks on...

I totally agree Slowpogo. The VHS version (as I may have said waayyy back in this thread) seemed to be edited too harshly. Songs seemed to come together a little too quickly and lingering shots of particular individuals in the crowd singing along, IMHO, should have been kept to a minimum - if not excluded (I want to see the band playing, not the mug of a particular audience member!) Only joking. I had a parrot, but it flew away. Little wonder, after hearing my French! Mon dieu. Erm, Double Heureux was my poor French for Double Happy, the Split Enz song (instrumental actually), but it seems more like very bad latin now that you mention it. Latin for "throw him to the truffles?".
