John, there's also Silver/Gold (I have that at my parents' home, back in Ipswich Qld. Australia) and i think the purple/yellow was the "normal" cover in Australia (it was also the colours on the laser-etched American release of the album, which I also have at the folks' house (nice, thick vinyl... almost warp-proof! I finally got my very own copy of the Enz DVD yesterday. To begin with, I felt a wee bit guilty about splashing out NZ$40, especially as I don't have my own DVD player. However, since the DVD is selling like hotcakes, I decided "yeah, why not?". First impressions of my first-ever DVD? WOW!!! This thing is fantastic. It's hard to pick out one particular favourite feature, as the whole package is great. Despite having had limitations on what could be licenced for use on the DVD and also time...

I know material from VHS isn't as good as what usually gets put onto DVD, but earlier this year I taped the i983 Countdown Awards with Tim presenting a couple of awards & I also think he won 1 or 2 awards... I can't really remember, but it was really good quality (picture & audio wise), so what would be the main reason that kind of material couldn't make the...

Did anyone ever consider that the people paying that sort of price for dodgy bootlegs of fanclub CDs must already be pretty massive fans & would have probably already brought Neil Finn 's complete back catalogue? Secret God, your friends are very lucky. As a longtime member of another community where live taping and TRADING of these tapes was not only condoned, but encouraged, I could never see making a profit from this. Wilco, on their website, also encourages their fans to record live shows, but very clearly states that this is for personal use and trade only.

A great doco, but, with regard to the audio, 'Enz With A Muffle' would have been a more appropriate title. The audio quality was atrocious, especially at the start. You can hardly even hear those fans talking. A fabulous record of the 'Enz With A Bang' tour, though. Some fab interview clips, great performances and it gave another point of view to actually see video footage that accompanies recordings on the Living Enz album. It was also was a real treat to see the vintage Telethon '75...

Nope, it's definitely mastered from a wildly off-azimuth tape (and if it's not a cassette, then someone's tape machine needs some serious overhauling.) Frankly, the quality is appalling compared to the vinyl record - although my 7" record is a bit off centre - ha! Sometimes you can't win. I hate pointing out faults, especially when the rest of the package is so good, but this one really bothered me.

Can't believe the amount of votes for Ringo. I do appreciate his role in the Beatles success, and the fact that helped to underpin the group's closeness, as well as providing a steady backbeat for the band. But sheer drumming ability? Never been impressed by him at all. I think he was really a case of "in the right place at the right time". Mind you, he's been there and done it, hasn't he, unlike armchair critics like me. My standpoint on bootlegs has always been, if record companies are not going to release the recordings then why should they bother if fans pass them amongst each other. The way I see it, the more CD's, tapes, video's and any other source with Neil Finn on them the better! Those interested should perhaps try this site - http://www.tapetrader.com it's a good community for traders of all artistes! Neil

Good point. I'm also pretty sure 100% of record sales from SAN!TY don't count towards the Aria chart either; they have their own chart (too cool for the rest of the nation ), so it might even be worth looking on the SAN!TY chart for Dreaming , although last time I checked they only had a top 50 singles & albums chart (not a DVD chart, but I couldn't be certain). Chart Update: Aria* haven't updated their DVD chart this week .

Much as I adore Neil's music and (if I'm honest) don't think much of Tim's work (with a few exceptions), it can't be denied that a) CH's (and therefore by connection, Neil's) most famous song was mostly Tim's, and b) CH's most succesful CD was mostly co-composed with Tim. I think it just shows that they work very well together, rather than that Neil needs Tim to get commercial success. Clearly that didn't happen with the Finn CD. I agree that Tim made the record a commercial success - and not solely through his songwriting. Anyone I speak to about Crowded House always talks about Woodface being the record the brothers made after making up after falling out over Split Enz...and then they fell out again after Woodface etc...not very accurate, but the relationship between the brothers has always interested the public/critics and that has to reflect on sales. Also, Nick and Paul didn't play AT ALL on WWY? I find that a...

So the conclusion is pretty obvious. We are all Finn fans but to different extents and we all have different ideas about which songs are great masterpieces and which get on our nerves. I don't try to analyse Tims contribution too much but it no doubt had it's influence upon it's eventual release. The fact is that they are both outstanding in their own rights and together and that success cannot be solely judged upon record sales in this music environment of disposable pop.

Split Enz were/are with Mushroom, Crowded House with EMI/Capitol/Parlophone, EMI et al were happy for CH club CDs, presumably Mushroom have a problem. I'd also imagine that the recordings would need a fair ammount of work on them due to age, and this would all cost money.
