Complete List of Split Enz & Beyond Studio Releases

Secret God (Stew) ·
Below is a generated folder list of every available Enz-related studio album/EP/project I can think of. I own a physical CD copy of everything listed (with the exception of a few that are digital only), and everything in these folders are lossless FLAC files (all tagged properly, with cover art). However, I am missing the bold/italic releases. So I guess my question is, aside from the bold/italic releases, am I missing anything obvious? Also, has anyone managed to find themselves copies of...

Cameos

Hi, does anyone know if any members of Crowded House or Split Enz made cameos on TV shows at any point? Just curious.

Amazing news! I grabbed a copy as soon as I saw this and listened to the download from bandcamp. First time I've heard any of Phil's solo career and I must say it is BRILLIANT!! CD is a bit expensive as Phil bought them at a high price so he can't sell them for less, but it's totally worth it. Time to take a look at the rest of Phil's albums now

phils new album "unique" is the best thing i've heard all year loads of great and yes unique songs, some of the stuff with miles golding really do'es hark back to the split ends sound and theres a great and very topical stab at donald trump, listening to phils solo stuff makes you realise who was the main architect behind the greatest debut album of all time the mighty "mental notes". everyone who loves the early enz stuff should get all of phils solo albums especially the new one, you'll be...

Re: Rank every band/project/solo work

Secret God (Stew) ·
So do we rank these individual bands / artists / projects out of 10 based on their entire output? As for other projects, I would include the likes of Citizen Band, The Swingers, Phil Judd, Schnell Fenster, The Makers, Enzso, ALT, Neil & Liam Finn, etc. Unless this is specifically about the Finn Brothers, in which case some of those might not count.

Feel free to add any others. I was doing it fron favourite to least favourite based on their output.

Re: Rank every band/project/solo work

Whysus ·
Hmmm... this is quite difficult to rank one off projects against a body of work but I’ll give it a whirl... This is just based on my personal preference. I guess the way I have thought about it is who/what I would most like to see (while in their prime) or be most excited to see a new album from as opposed to rating against their full recorded output. 1 Split Enz v1 2 Split Enz v2 3 Crowded House v1 4 ALT 5 Finn Family* 6 Finn Brothers 7 Neil Finn and Paul Kelly 8 7 Worlds Collide 9 Crowded...

Re: Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?

I don't think either version (Luton or the 1983 re-recording) is particularly memorable, unfortunately, although I probably prefer the Luton version.

Lance LaSalle ·
I love it; absolutely fantastic melody. I feel like the subject matter (suicide) is treated a little flippantly but there is some irony there. I suppose. Both versions are fine but the middle 8 of the 83 version probably wins for me, though I prefer the original slightly darker lyric. Rear Enz version has tape issue. 78 version is badly mastered and hard on the ears, but otherwise pretty good. Overall though it’s a melodic, forgotten gem.

I like the 1983 version so much that I wish they would have included it on Time & Tide. FWIW, I think that album badly needs a couple winners to replace some of the clunkers.

Re: Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?

Jeremy Loder ·
I like both versions of Next Exit. The 83 version wins for me. Time And Tide is perfect tho and clunker free. Pioneer, Six Months, Dirty Creature and Haul Away are the ones the casual listener/fan would know. But Hello Sandy, Log Cabin, Small World and the whole rest of the album is exceptional. And the core of the band (Tim, Ed, Noel, Nigel and Neil) all consider it their best album. And as the second Next Exit was recorded 83 if it was going to be added to an album it would be Conflicting...

I agree, Jeremy about Time and Tide . Probably the Enz's best album, though I think the international 1981 version of Frenzy is just as good. But it might have improved Conflicting Emotions, though it doesn't really quite fit in with that cold mechanized sound of Conflicting Emotions.

I guess I would drop "Never Ceases to Amaze Me" and "Lost for Words" and replace them with "Next Exit" and "Remember When" (both obviously the later recordings not the Luton versions). For me, the album's momentum just hits a brick wall when you get to NCTAM and LFW, which is a shame because I think "Small World" is one of the best Enz songs. Here's what I did to make the album more enjoyable for my tastes: Haul Away Dirty Creature Giant Heartbeat Small World Hello Sandy Allen Next Exit Make...

I really like Next Exit. It’s actually one of the first Enz songs I heard when I started searching for CH-related music in the early 2000s, possibly because it was one of the few that had a music video on YouTube at that time.

There was an album rank done for Crowded House but not one for Split Enz. They have so many great albums and I’m interested to see what everyone’s favourites are ranging from Phil Judd days to Neil Finn days.

Nice list! I would add Phil Manzanera's K-Scope which like Southern Cross featured Tim on lead vocals for a few tracks. Other Enzers were also involved. Mark Hart was a member of Supertramp for a few albums before and after Crowded House. Neil was featured prominently on several Dave Dobbyn albums including as producer and co-songwriter on Twist. Phil contributed music to a movie called Amy in 1997 but I don't know if the soundtrack was officially released.

Cheers Spencer. Have since got myself a copy of K-Scope . Not sure I'd consider albums Neil has 'produced' as part of my canon, even if he did happen to co-write a song or two. I know Mark Hart has played with Supertramp a fair bit, even singing lead vocals on some of Roger Hodgson's songs, but has he played on any of their studio albums or sung on any studio recordings? I mean if we're including Supertramp where do we draw the line? Yeah hard to include some of Phil Judd's soundtrack work...

Hey Stew - have you considered the two Citizen Band albums (Citizen Band 1978, and Just Drive Thru Town 1979)? I’m guessing that they aren’t there because they were never released on CD, and Rust In My Car (which is on CD) isn’t there because it’s a compilation?

Not sure if you want to add Nigel's - Sleeper and Tim and Anna Paquin's - The Magnificent Nose. Just had a quick look back and you don't have either LLT EPs. Although I think they had live tracks on them.
