Secret God (Stew) ·
Agreement with Paul H on that note. boarderGurl - thanks for posting those quotes from Neil. Neil Finn 's pretty quick & witty when he comes to replying to things. He's also quite funny & laid-back, so I doubt he'd get all emotional at a concert in front of thousands of people telling the guy that what he did was wrong & illeagal & how the artists are losing out on this... Yes, I know your comment ( "we have permission from the man himself"] ) was a joke & all, but Neil...

Wow Paul H, you took that WAY too seriously. I can see it now: I'll start my own Neil Finn pirating company, and when I get sued in court my defense will be, "But Neil SAID I could!" Yikes, chill out. The entire POINT of that post was to illustrate Neil's liberal stance on the subject in general, not to condone, or in ANY way imply that Neil condones illegal copying of music. Neil was just being Neil.......chatting comfortably with the hundred or so of us fans that turned up for the free...

Re: Sixpence None the Richer cover DDIO

Fair enough. I can accept your majority very negative opinions Frenz. But IMHHO we should be encouraging MORE artists to cover Finn songs -as if 2 give them more exposure. Personally I would take it as a compliment if any1 covered my song, no matter who or what genre artist does it. Remember these/any artists spend their whole life working hard on their craft. Any thing that is mass produced - SNTR, Britney Spears, Bardot, Popstars, Scandulus, Nikki Webster etc et al has some redeemable...

Yes. w.c.i.b.n. - I always look forward to someone covering one of Neil's songs, even if it does turn out to be crap. It's just good to have, plus to hear how it's interpreted. Apart from Sixpence NTR , none of that crap ( Scandal'us, Nikki Webster, Bardot, Britney Spears ) has "some redeemable quality about it! No, that's NOT just in my opinion . I have a 1.5"x1" tatt (and that's what I call them too, Bedlamite!) of an open window on my right shoulder blade. I got it about 12 years ago when I was working for a local rock band in Cincinnati called "psychodots". They had a great song called "Open Window" that really spoke to me (it's about purging your past and bad memories, and getting on with your life--plus it had a great beat and you could dance to it ), so I decided to immortalize it on my person. Today, when the band occasionally...

I have to admit, I prefer the web for news as it is instant, but notice unlike a lot of band's websites, I don't really see much merchandise for sale on the site? So is the band not totally 'net friendly' as yet? That's not a dig, just need to justify joining the club over what I can see on the web. Thanks again!

Hey Gav, The lone McDonald and Giles album is quite good. Thanks for reminding me about it! I listened to my old vinyl copy a couple times today. It's perhaps not as consistenly good as the first King Crimson record, but it's more soulful, has a nice whimsical streak, and contains stronger jazz, pop, and folk elements than the mother group. I'd say in a way it has more in common with Caravan and the Canterbury sound. I'd never thought about it before, but after listening to McDonald and...

The thing about this album for me was that I virtually hated it at first - the music just didn't make sense to me in the way it flowed (or didnt). For some reason I persisted with a few more listens and was completely hooked. What inspired me was that they seemed to have created their own logic and musical language and once you 'got it' you couldnt get enough of it. Beyond this there is an integrity about it that shines through the production values that some people complain about. The...

I agree with all the general principles already stated regarding not profiting from selling live recordings. But what I don't understand is that Sylcar said it's ok to trade live shows for blank CDRs. But isn't that just 'selling' them by the back door ? I mean, would it be acceptable to trade for other cheap commodities like blank videos, or postage stamps, or what ? These things all cost money, so a trade for anything except another music recording is in fact a SALE, so lets not kid...

Actually, trading for another recording is still a sale - albeit a two-way sale without dead presidents changing hands. If anyone wants to kid themselves that it's not a sale and not covered by the same laws they believe a "traditional sale" would be, that's their prerogative. I'm willing to bet that the real reason most people won't "sell" a recording for the price of the CD-R plus postage is that "hey, what do I get out of it?". After all, while they have a recording that somebody wants...
