Re: Time For A Change guitar solo question.

alclarke ·
Stumbled across this old thread and thought I'd add some info after talking to both Miles and Wally recently. It is indeed Wally playing the solo on "Time for a Change." And although it's Phil's song, the solo was actually composed by violinist Miles Golding. Wally thought it was perfect and copied it note for note... but he was frustrated by not getting the actual sound he was looking for. He had the luxury of three days to record his guitar parts for "Mental Notes" but every song had...

Heidi - I'm so sorry that this has turned into such an ordeal for you. Don't let the doctors treat you like you're stupid - remind them that it's your body and child and that you know what they are telling you! My kids were born at 36 & 37 weeks and they were fine - other than my daughter having to spend a single night in the hospital under the bili lights for a moderate case of jaundice. And they were 7 lbs. 2 oz and 8 lbs. even respectively. If they had gone any longer, I'm sure my...

One of my faves too, also I know it's one part of the Enz DVD that Tim loved, always a good sign. Yeah sadly a cost thing, was happy to get what we did as Mushroom could of pulled the purse strings tighter but OK'd it as they knew what it mean for the fans. We were over by a minute or two as far as footage and the BBC were a little bit flexible so they weren't evil as such. Would of loved the whole show, the cost would of been double the budget that we were allowed, so in the end one makes...

Talk about Four Seasons In One Day...... I have spent the day oscilating between utter shock and sadness to actually laughing out loud remembering Paul. I first met Paul in the Do Re Mi days, when I guess he was only 'a bit' famous. He was funny and friendly. I was thrilled when he joined the Enz, he was Enz material, if he was going to be in the Enz he had to be special. Special is what we got with Paul Hester. A fantastic drummer, but always terrific fun on and off the stage. When the Enz...

I have been to this site before but never registered until today because I just had to be a part of this wonderful community with all its kind words about Paul and his work. a new obituary from the smh today... Cheeky larrikin stole the show By John Clifforth "Show me the love" was one of Paul's favourite sayings. He would use it when you were going for a difficult putt or laying down a vocal in his recording studio. He lived by this motto, too, and since his tragic and lonely death in Elsternwick Park, much of the love he inspired has been evident. Paul was the cheeky rover who gets in and fairly steals the play from the big boys. Our loveable larrikin, poking...

Ahh, more hysterical Tasmanian jokes. Nope, they're all from Melbourne Vox amps are stupidly famous amps thanks to The Beatles using them, and Neil has been using one since Dizrhythmia and they are valve amps, it's fairly rare for a modern band (or performance in this case) to use such an old amp. It's pretty clear in your photo fourth from the bottom. Some of us take an interest in the equipment used, rather than hair and pants On that note, it looks like a new Les Paul goldtop Neil's using...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

loufun ·
This week: Violator (Depeche Mode) - Forgot how great this album is. Sounds suberb in surround too. Best Of Mental As Anything - a truly great but quirky pop band. The proof is this 24 track best which is hit after hit but still doesn't feature ALL the hits. A sign of a great singles band. Ill Communication (Beastie Boys) - probably not Neil Finn's favourite band! But then I find Bic Runga boring so it evens out on the Frenz scale.

I've mulled over the whole autograph thing a lot. I can't begin to imagine how many times Neil or Tim have signed an autograph. But I can well imagine that the novelty of signing an autograph probably wore off a looooooong time ago. On the other hand, maybe they would begin to feel unappreciated if there was never anyone waiting there. Personally, I have items signed by...

I didn't say that. what I said was that the Grammy's maybe a flawed indicator of success where the choice of recipient is more influenced by events outside the music rather than on the merits of the music itself. This is me with my most cynical outsider's view at the state of music in America (Note: the following is not directed toward the Dixie Chicks, I like them, they're a good band, and they make REAL music.) because mainstream "artists," a term I use very loosely, that are no more then...

I'm glad I got to see the webcast, despite the fact that the bottle incident actually shook me up. I just couldn't imagine anyone wanting to do that to Neil of all people, CH of all bands. I missed the webcast last night because my internet server was down but it just occured to me that no one has mentioned Tim. (sorry if this was covered earlier in the thread) I was shocked to learn about "the Coachella Incident" this morning and proud of the way the band soldiered on--the true mark of a professional. Wonder how enthusiastic they'll be to sign up for a berth @ Coachella next year?

Re: AT&T Blue Room to Webcast Crowded House from Coachella

I thought it might be a risky move to put them on that bill. Looking through previous Coachella lineups, it seemed to me that the festival itself and the type of music and fan that it attracts were just at odds with everything that CH represents - and that's the key. Devin is right in one sense only - "dated whitebread power-pop" is just not what those people came to hear. Whoever booked them needs to reflect on their choice, as putting them in that lineup didn't give them much of a chance.

Hi Imaginary Man, thanks for the review! I remember you, you were right in front of me... It was a great gig, except for the sound during some of the songs, but the atmosphere and enthousiasm of everyone in the room and on stage made up for that! It was pretty hot and steamy, but the security guys (who were in the way of my camera most of the time ) handed out some water, which kept us all going.
