Re: The Story so far.........
She answered the door and saw a burly campus policeman on her porch. "I'm sorry ma'am," he said, "but another student has come down with spinal menengitis and the dormitories need to be evacuated. Did you know Stuart Anderson?" Aria was saddened by this information. She hadn't known Stuart very well, but she had American History 101 with him. She had thought him really cute and was hoping at some point to know him better. But apparently, that wouldn't be possible now. "What is your name,...

Re: The Story so far.........
Dismissing the minor inconvenience (her roommate, after all, was majoring as a nail technician) Aria looked at her watch. "Dammit, I'd better get down to the clinic." She hurriedly threw some items into her duffel bag, and headed off. After submitting to a barrage of tests at the college health clinic, Aria sat in the waiting room, anxiously anticipating the verdict. Would she, too, have the illness which killed her classmate, Stuart? The doctor entered. "Aria Featherstone?" "Yes?" "Well,...

Re: RIP Paul...
My wife just told me that she heard Paul had passed on the radio this morning. I am so completely shocked and saddened that this great player with so much talent and spirit has taken his own life. I feel as bad as when the great Stuart Adamson of Big Country committed suicide in late 2001. Both of these men made music with my favorite bands and created art that has had a profound impact on my life. Pauls untimely passing is therefore much more devastating to his family and to those who knew...

"Escape is on your mind again . . . " It had been a great weekend here in Austin, TX. A great several weekends. I never thought I'd get to see the Ocean Blue again, and after 8 years there they were, right in front of me at SXSW. It got me greedy. Maybe . . . maybe someday I'll get to see Neil and Paul and Nick and Mark (why, I wonder, is no one mentioning Mark?) again. Then a truly stupefying weekend of college basketball, in which my beloved Michigan State Spartans shocked everyone right...

Re: RIP Paul...
Hi, Hope you dont mind me joining you all...feel kinda guilty that this tragedy has brought me here for the first time, but I cant get Paul Hester's death off my mind since I heard the news on Sunday. When I heard the first sketchy report on the radio I assumed he must have had a heart attack. Then as more information emerged that it was a suicide my first though was 'But he was always the funny one!" Other thoughts flashed thru my mind of suicide being such a selfish and cowardly act.

Re: why no reunion after ten years
Perhaps it's the opposite - that Crowded House was in fact so special to Neil that he thought that any reunion couldn't live up to the time when the band were an ongoing thing? Either for himself, the band or the fans. That's just an idea, because I don't know him, but it's how I feel about it. Without meaning any disrespect for those who are so excited about the forthcoming Split Enz shows (after all I flew to the other side of the world myself for the Millennium gigs) I think such an...

Re: why no reunion after ten years
Please don't do that Stuart. Every point of view has a place...really. I think it is still early days for a lot of frenz in relation to Paul's death. I do apologise if I was one who offended. As I said in my original post, I really believe that in the case of a CH reunion, Neil Finn has shown no real interest in ever doing it. And yet he loves a good ole Split Enz revival! I think we can all argue over which members constitute a real CH reunion but I'm sure we're all in agreeance that Neil...

Re: Favorite Bassists
I agree with many of the above suggestions (esp. Giffo and Sting), and thought I'd throw in some of my favourites that no one else seems to have mentioned. Robert Sledge (Ben Folds Five) - He does an awesome job of anchoring the band against piano and drums, yet remaining melodic as well. And then he jumps on the fuzz pedal and sounds completely different again!Probably not quite as good as Nick, but I think he's very similar. Bernard Edwards (Chic) - The best disco/funk bass player. hey thanks Stuart, I'd made some intelligent guesses about the subject matter but didn't realise it was *that* personal. Makes it even more haunting.

Re: Crowded House-Peter Jones
Hi Stuart no i don't think he was, the guys really wanted a new fresh face in the lineup. Some of my favourite Crowdies shows were with Peter Jones on drums. I remember at our house Hessie gave Peter the thumbs up and they chatted about songs etc. Paul was always very positive about Peter Jones as a drummer. Nice guy too, so easy to dal with on the road. Re: Crowded House-Peter Jones
I remember that, in the summer, the CH "Artist Link" on the BBC Radio 2 website showed a posed publicity photo of Neil, Nick, Mark and Peter (I think it was à propos Intriguer release; I may be wrong - but in any case ineptly out-of-date). It's not there now, but it may be the same pic that Stuart refers to. It mystifies me that some believe that they have more accurate inside info than Peter on this subject. Seems a bizarre thing to be squabbling about.

Re: My Finn journey
My Finn journey started in 1992 when I was on a 2 hour car trip from Brussels to Eindhoven with a New Zealander I barely knew (to play together in a cricket match), and he played Woodface repeatedly the whole journey. By the end I could sing most of the tracks and I knew I was hooked. I bought Woodface, CH and TOLM all together and played them endlessly thinking music could never get any better. I was wrong, because TA came out the next year... P.S. if you're a Forum member Stuart R. please...

Re: Neil wins live vote BBC radio 2
(Surfaces from Frenz archives looking dusty!) I voted with my digit! It was a good performance, I'm glad he won but then again he was only up against Daniel Beddingfield and Mel C! Who the hell wants to hear Mel C 'shout' live!Even the DJ Stuart Maconie said 'thank God!' when he won. (descends back into the bowels of the archives!)

Re: Doing The Rounds
I'd second all the above suggestions, especially Jools Holland if there's a series on then. Also Stuart Maconie's drive time show on BBC Radio 2 would be a good choice for a live performance and interview. I'm sure he's a Finn fan as he's always throwing in Finn numbers on the show. He even played I Got You a few weeks ago.

Re: Split Enz's Most Punk Rock Moments
Did you know the only official recording you'll ever here him actually playing on is the live version of Belsen Was A Gas on The Great Rock and Roll Swindle soundtrack, where he prooves Stuart Sutcliffe was the better bass player, (Glen Matlock was asked back for Never Mind The Bollocks)? I have to go with Livin It Up, Mental Notes is too complicated to be a punk song and image wise, the front cover of Dizrythmia. I'd also count I See Red and Shark Attack as punk songs.

Yeah, I didn't think he was heard much (or at all) on the Sex Pistols' studio recordings. For various reasons, I don't think he deserves any of the cult following he's gotten over the years.

Re: Canadians & the Tour EP
I hear ya, Stuart. My Nettwerk e-news letter came this morning and confirmed that the iTunes download IS the EP. Drat! No pre-tour CD. I immediately sent off a terse email to Nettwerk about the whole Canuck conundrum and asked for an explanation. After all, Nettwerk is a Canadian company. Maybe I should head down to their office (on this gorgeous west coast day) and give them a piece of our minds. Even better, maybe we should ask our election candidates what they'll do about it if they're...

Re: The savage review, it left me gasping...
I think we ought to note the title of the newspaper 'The Independent'. Let this reviewer stand alone and be independent. I think Mr Gill is a fine and dandy music journalist but with a different opinion of what makes viable, enjoyable music. I have read good reviews, i have read bad reviews. Lets not forget that 'Whats the story (morning glory)' was panned when it got reviewed !! I buy the independent most day as it is a bloody good paper with lots of great writers. Lets not be upsat that...

Re: CH spotted on Comedy Central...
Just because a band plays on someone's show doesn't mean it was their idea, or that they don't hate the band! It's not always up to them. Besides, I seem to remember during the end credits of the original MTV John Stuart show, when Crowded House was playing "Nails In My Feet", the camera kept cutting to dogs humping beach balls on the main stage (seriously!). I can't say that shows much respect for the band...

Great review Stuart,i had a tear in my eye reading it,it was and will always be the highlight of my life, still have the t-shirt,well worn!!! There never will be any band better than the crowdies in the 80's/90's. It only higlights what a great guy Paul was. Who hasn't cried at "Don't dream It's over" after watching the video. Thanks for giving it a great review. Long live the Crowdies!!!!

Semi-detached. Nice album cover-Ghost in the Machine. I loved the police and didn't realise until recently the cover has Stuart Andy and Sting represented as l.e.d symbols. Very clever album cover. Oh yes topic, I like to think of the band having strong Melbourne roots, but I guess they are a band of the world now. I'd love it if they got a new drummer from Melbourne. It was always nice to know Crowded House were present in Melbourne.

Re: How many copies will TOE sell??
Is that you becoming more in tune with their playlist or them actually becoming "credible", because I'm inclined the say the former. Radio 2 has always had decent playlists aimed at a certain audience. It's been reshuffled and changed in recent years - as in the last two/three - and now their playlists include a lot of stuff that Radio 1 would (and still do, sometimes) play, like The Streets, The View, The Kooks, Amy Winehouse, Snow Patrol, Muse(!), Keane etc. It's far more eclectic and far...

Unfortunatly Richard Allinson only 'sits in' for other DJ's when they are on there holiday breaks which is a great shame as he used to play some excellent music on his Saturday afternoon show.(In fact he has sat in for Steve Wright in the last 2/3 weeks) I also believe that he does a show on BBC Radio Oxford at the weekends, but could be wrong! BRING BACK ALLINSON!! As for Johnnie Walker he also does a few 'sit in's' but also has a show on Radio 2 on Sunday afternoon's. It is a great shame...

Re: Johnny Marr...
Well Morrissey isn't exactly Curuso either. Well now that is interesting, given that Johnny Marr & The Healers had pencilled in a new release for 2007. Wonder why he has opted to join Stuart Little & friends? The new film clip for The Modest Mouse single is pretty cool though. Maybe he just needed to be in a band so he could do what he's best at. I've never met a mouse that wasn't modest. Although it's a touch brash to boast about it, don't you think?

What a brilliant story Stuart, a memory that I'm sure you'll keep forever! I'm firmly in the "never meet your heroes" camp, I've always been apprehensive that I'd meet Neil or whoever and it would never turn out to be quite the conversation that I'd hoped, and that somehow the myth would be shattered and I'd no longer feel as strongly about him or his music. I've turned down the chance to meet him and Tim several times, so I suppose it's ungracious to pass up the opportunity, when many...

Yes, I've deliberately been putting it on a couple of times in the past week or so to hear it (as it's now on the A list playlist)... Finally got to hear it on the radio the other day on Stuart Maconie's show (I don't listen to radio 2 much myself, but it's always on in my dad's car and I always thought this guy had good musical taste )... did get very annoyed as he cut the song off just as it got to the "blank piece of paper on the top of my head"... grrr! It's not as if it's a long song!!
