A NEW CH SESSION - DERMOT O'LEARY 5 JUNE 2010

Re: AT&T Blue Room to Webcast Crowded House from Coachella
Mishima, I respectfully disagree. I love Paul Hester, but Matt Sherrod has skills that he adds to this band, as well. His heavier presence has been a welcome addition, and I think CH has has sounded excellent/rejuvenated from the several recent shows from which I've seen or heard clips. If you're saying that Matt doesn't fit the picture in terms of his stage banter, I'd agree in that his on-stage personality seems to be quite different than Paul's, but his drumming skills certainly can't be...

Re: AT&T Blue Room to Webcast Crowded House from Coachella
From the San Jose Mercury News: Coachella, Day III By Shay Quillen Monday, April 30th, 2007 at 10:20 am in Music, Shay Quillen, General, Coachella. Thousands of Rage Against the Machine fans this weekend wore T-shirts reading “The Battle of Coachella.” On Sunday, the Battle of Coachella was held, and Crowded House lost. Three hours before Rage Against the Machine’s first show in seven years, Crowded House attempted to play its first big show in more than 10. But if there’s a band less suited...

It was an amazing weekend. The Pomona show was everything you could ever want in a first CH concert. I stood only a couple people from the front, dead center. Very casual. Great crowd. And they were phenomenal! Haven't read others accounts yet. Just got to a place were I could get online and am compelled to write my thought. Every song, every interchange w/ the crowd - unforgettable! She Called Up much better than I remembered from the webcast. Black and White boy ~ total treat! I was crying...

Re: 'Don't Stop Now' video
I agree with Carter...chances of this video getting any air time here in the states - other than Classic/Current on VH1 Classic is pretty slim (this country's marketing "gurus" have a tough time understand what the "V" means in MTV or VH1)...that being said... This video is BLAZING with energy and fits the song extremely well (drifting back to Jaffaman's interview and Neil told us what the song's about). They all look they're having a blast and enjoying themselves. Utilizing the cover...

Re: Crowded House - live from Roundhead Studios Friday 13th July
Studio is full of warmth... and lovely woods. Sharon did a lot of work around the design and colours, she did tell me ages ago who designed the lighting which plays a major part. (but II've since forgotten who itw as) Apart from the drop lights there are also several ceiling circular light indents. We had a small party after the fanclub-promo show and Sharon showed me how the circular indents change colour at the flick of a switch. All calming tones... Party was as much fun as the radio...

Re: Ann Arbor quickie
The Ann Arbor concert was excellent, although, since it's the only one I'm attending this tour, I can't compare it to their other shows. I've seen Neil once before with his brother, but this was my first CH concert, and my wife's as well. Neil has played in Detroit the past few years, solo and with Tim, but said he hadn't been to Ann Arbor for at least a couple decades. As a local, I appreciated that he didn't dismiss the city as more or less another part of Detroit, as Ann Arbor's...

Hi all, first-time poster here, though I've been a major Finn fan for many years. I too was at the Ann Arbor show last night (so glad they played here rather than in Detroit or the 'burbs), and was blown away by the performance -- Neil was in fine voice, despite reports of a cold, and the guys seemed to be in high spirits and genuinely appreciative of the enthusiastic crowd. I missed a few chances to see the band back in the '80s and '90s, so I made sure that I would not miss this one. We...

Re: Crowded House-Peter Jones
Being quiet and lacking personality are far from being the same thing. And, as a musician, I found nothing compelling about his playing. (That doesn't make me right; it's just my opinion.) I will, however, stand by my original statement. I've nothing against Peter Jones, but he was, as far as I'm aware, never a member of CH - any more than Mark Hart was before TA. He was a sideman, a hired gun. Matt Sherrod is a member of the band, hence him rightly being described as Paul Hester's replacement.

Re: "Second Chance" Songs for the new album...?
I would actually choose Anthem. Purely because I think the lineup of Finn, Seymour, Sherrod and Hart would create a great rendition of it. In many ways it is similar to a song that could go on Time on Earth or Intriguer due to it's emotional tones but triumphant feel.

About Matt...
I really enjoyed listening to a one hour interview that Matt recently did with NHT (Feb 2016): http://now-hear-this.net/content/nhte-104-matt-sherrod Listening to Matt speak about his passion for music and all of the very different projects he's been involved with, was very refreshing. Not for lack of desire or effort, but up until now I knew very little about Matt. A fine review from Edinburgh

There was a time, around 1993, when they looked like heirs apparent to U2 and R.E.M., ready to make the step-change up to the out-of-town sheds and the weekend fan-boys. They broke up rather than have to grasp that particular nettle,...

From what I could hear of Matt's drumming (when I could hear it I swear as soon as I can afford it, I'm going Broadband) he sounded great. I reckon that he would've been nervous, being his very first public performance with Crowded House. Especially with the knee-jerk reaction from some fans: "No Paul... No Crowded House!" My goodness - those of you hacking away at Matt Sherrod for his "new and improved" quote need to relax. What would you expect him to say? "Well, it's going to be worse, but we'll have a go anyway"? "I didn't know Paul Hester, but I'm going to pretend to be reverential and pious and and all that, just so I don't tick any of the all-too-fragile Crowdies fans off"? Saying something is "new and improved" is just a figure of speech; let's not read too much into that, OK?

Re: The most underrated, underappreciated song in the CH library???
I have been listening to Time on Earth again recently. I still think it's a terribly underrated album, full of terribly underrated songs. Nothing on Intriguer matches it for emotional rawness or complexity. A Sigh is a monster. I can see why it puts most people off: it's hardly a pick-me-up that makes you smile as the s*** comes down. With this song, Neil taps a darkness that scares the bejesus out of most of us -- the feeling of utter hopelessness that wells up as you watch a dearly loved...
