It's actually a Tam Tam (large orchestral gong) that he plays during the instrumental in Charlie from the same concert. He also uses it for comic effect in My Mistake. I noticed the Gretsch, It's a Tenessean or Country Gent I think. It looks like an epiphone casino or 335 that he plays on What's The Matter With You, have to look more closely, and I'm sure it isn't plugged in.

Agreement with Paul H on that note. boarderGurl - thanks for posting those quotes from Neil. Neil Finn 's pretty quick & witty when he comes to replying to things. He's also quite funny & laid-back, so I doubt he'd get all emotional at a concert in front of thousands of people telling the guy that what he did was wrong & illeagal & how the artists are losing out on this... Yes, I know your comment ( "we have permission from the man himself"] ) was a joke & all, but Neil...

Sorry, JL, but I think you might be on your own with this one. I like the bass sounds on 'Lord Nord', but that's about it. I'd gun for 'Double Happy', especially the live version from the 1980 'True Colours' concert. But each to their own.

Epiphany! The bottleneck in this process is that in the absence of sourcetape (can't remember what you guys in the industry refer to it as), the cost of transferring/upgrading VHS to DVD-ready quality it prohibitive. There must be a zillion peripheral bands out that there like the Enz that have pent up demand that is not currently $ practical to warrant the VHS-DVD transfer. All we need is for some bright spark to create the technology to minimize the cost of this process. Unfortunately, I'm...

Lozza, I'm So Up, Play It Strange and Home Comforts are all from the same concert - there's no break between them. Judd is very much on I'm So Up, it's him singing with Tim, and there are two guitars on all three tracks, and three on Play It Strange - I suspect Tim is actually playing acoustic on this, as in some parts two electrics and an acoustic can clearly be heard. Hi Jamie - Visiting your brother sounds like a great thing to add in to a trip to see Neil. I'd love to join you, except that I have a few things on the homefront that I can't leave right now. I think Neil came to Denver a few times when I was there, but for some reason the idea of seeing him live hadn't occurred to me yet in life (I think that was because I got into Crowded House long before I became a concert goer and the thought never translated that gap). I think that it's problems with the record company. Split Enz were/are with Mushroom, Crowded House with EMI/Capitol/Parlophone, EMI et al were happy for CH club CDs, presumably Mushroom have a problem. I'd also imagine that the recordings would need a fair ammount of work on them due to age, and this would all cost money. Having heard True Colours and Nightmare Stampede from Oddz and Enz on the tape of the concert it is obvious that Eddie Raynor spent a lot of time tweaking the sound, as...

A 1978 concert of mixing desk quality!!! Sounds like the perfect companion piece to go with a 'luton' cd. i know there's reasons for not putting stuff out, but as with the dvd, 25 year old tapes won't last forever, so why not save the enz music for posterity? So many quality songs were written in 1978. It was also the time when the band had it's ultimate lineup, IMHO, Phil, Tim and Neil. What enz fan wouldn't sell a kidney to hear that? I think that the benefits are multifold. For one, merchandise has in fact been pretty much restricted to the club and to concert sales, so if you're into that, it helps to be a member. Apart from being in a great "family", the most obvious plus are the live CDs which AFAIK are turning more towards the occasional Neil/Finn Bros. Live CD while the Crowdies CDs have run their course. Most of them had a 500 run only, so the copies are very much cherished by those who have them. The area this...
