Howdy all, this is my first post- fitting that it reviews my first Crowdies gig. I desperately wanted to attend the FTTW concert, unfortunately I wasn't alive at the time. Hopefully the views of a newer fan offer some youthful exuberance. Having said that, my tastes are quite similar to Axver, so I could have nothing novel to add whatsoever. Couldn't have asked for a better opening, three of the first four were singalong classics to get the crowd buzzing, whilst Mark's little catastrophe got...

Would be shocked if they played Go Your Own Way as one of the two songs. I reckon there would be more chance of them playing a couple of Billy Burnette-era tracks... While I expect Go Your Own Way to be a concert staple for the new line-up (and probably be the only true "Lindsay" song Neil sings on the tour) I'd be very surprised if the two songs weren't one each for Christine and Stevie (Eg. Dreams, Over My Head, Gypsy, Everywhere, Landslide, Love In Store, Rhiannon, etc.) Then again, I...

I lived in Perth for a few months but it was nearly 8 years ago, but since no one else has replied I will pass on what little I can remember... The concert is at the Burswood Dome, that is next to (part of) a 5 star hotel/casino. It is on the Great Eastern Highway which is the main highway between the airport and the city. The Burswood Dome is about a 5 minute drive from the city and ten minutes from the airport. There were quite a few budget motels along the Gt Eastern Highway between the...

I guess I'll be first then! I am Canadian but my employer was kind enough to send me on a business trip to Sydney in Nov./Dec. of 1996. I've been a fan since the first album and my wife and I saw them here in Canada in 1994. I knew that they were splitting up, but I didn't know about the Opera House concert until the flight attendant passed out copies of the Sydney Morning Herald on the Honolulu-Sydney flight. The concert was supposed to have taken place the day I arrived; I would have been...

Hi Neylan, Depending on which concert you are going to, most people who are going on the 9th of June were going to meet up at, http://paddymaguires.com/haymarket/ If you are going on the 8th of June, maybe you can arrange to meet people there as well. Not sure what time most people were going to get there. 6.30pm - 7pm till about 10 or 15 mins before 8pm. For some it will be after work, for others, maybe earlier. There is more info on the link below.

Thank you for sharing that with us, Chris. I'll be keeping an eye out for the latest issue. It's a great article. Ain't that a great photo of our Enz boys! - they have aged well compared to, say, the Rolling Stones! It's heartbreaking to note the following: Yet another Enz-related "what if"!

Can't speak for anyone else, but I know I hunger for unreleased Split Enz. I think it comes down to familiarity with the released material, and a fascination for hearing out takes, different arrangements and how the songs progressed live. Pity we aren't a bigger fan base. It seems the band is really not interested in releasing any of this material, are they embarrassed by it, or think it's not up to standard? And I include all the other known demos and out takes, and live material as well.

Re: SPLIT ENZ VHS CONCERT MELBOURNE 1980

Jaffaman ·
This VHS release is the real deal. To quote myself from http://www.radionz.co.nz/nr/programmes/enzology/ep06 Split Enz was the first Australasian band to release a full-length home video cassette. “Split Enz Live In Concert” was videotaped in January 1980. The rare Enz song Outer Mongolia was performed but wasn’t included on the video. The Beta and VHS videos are next to impossible to find nowadays.

It is listed in the club Discography. The original price for it was $80.00.And something about one copy being buried in a time capsule in Canberra. It also comes in a black cardboard cover. Recorded at CH 7 studios in Melbourne Well it’s the same show as the club ENZ DVD that went out in DEC last year only the club one had an extra song . Is the black cover a rarer one?

Arthur and I have just had a long conversation, and have decided that with the help of Mr American Express, that we can afford to go to the Melbourne concert, so we'll be flying in on the 11th to see it (golden glove crossed). The ABC sold the bike though.... i saw that after i posted, i'm still trying to find out what the actual name was, the name on the video said "aid for africa" but that didn't come up with anything in google, it was definetly an aid concert cause numbers come up on the screen for donations, and it was definetly 1985 because they sing "helps me helps you" from the Midnight Oil album "red sails in the sunset" that was released in 1984

That was called the EAT(East African Tragedy) Appeal Concert, held at Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, on Jan. 27, 1985. The Mullanes didn't perform (I suspect they didn't exist yet as a band per se). The segment Neil participated in ran about 12 minutes, and his main bit was his performing an unusual punk-rock stule version of "One Mouth Is Fed." Taking more of a backing bandmember roll for the other two songs, other folks sang "Helps Me, Helps You" and "Money (That's What I Want)." The band...

Maybe I should see if I can wear it? I got to take my 14 year old daughter along. Her first concert ever. My first concert was the Enz when I was 14, at Revesby Workers Club - 23 years ago (amazed I got in, looked FAR too young to be there). She loved it - nearly knocked me over during I See Red!
