Above the Kitchen ·
The CW app is live-streaming the iHeart festival, starting at 7pm PCT/10 EST. I don’t know if the CW app is available outside of the US. I don’t know when FM goes on stage. Still looking for that info

I actually thought it sounded pretty good for the first two songs, and that maybe I had misjudged this whole thing. And then came the opening strains of Second Hand News and my skin started to crawl. Why would they play that song?? Dumb decision. I could not take hearing Neil sing that song to Stevie. I turned it off when they turned to sing it to each other. Yuck.

The second song was Little Lies, not You Make Lovin Fun. The whole set is on Periscope, in very poor video quality, but the sound is good. https://www.pscp.tv/w/1MYxNqVOagNJw

It didn’t look like it was live-streamed oncwtv or the iHeartRadio app but I found this: https://www.pscp.tv/w/1MYxNqVOagNJw I thought The Chain was a lot better than the Ellen performance. I thought Don’t Stop and Little Lies (Sugar Mouse - LL was the second song not YMLF) sounded better than the On With The Show tour versions. I agree that Second Hand News was an odd choice. I didn’t hate it, but there just is no reason to play LB songs (particularly ones that start “I know there's nothing...

Would have been smart to play Oh Well instead of Second Hand News. Gold Dust Woman was the highlight for me. Stevie sounded close to her old self in that song and it gave each of the members a chance to shine. Better to go with older songs with less Lindsey influence. The band has so many great songs that lack the "Lindsey gloss" and I would love to see the band embrace them. "Hypnotized", "Oh Well", "Dust", etc. And perhaps it's me but it looked to me like Christine wasn't playing the keys.

After watching the above video, I have to say that I am disappointed. I know that the sound and video quality were not the greatest, but I heard and saw enough to determine that I think Neil is not the right man for this job. Is it me or does Neil not really sound like himself? He is actually sounding American. It almost seems that he is trying to sing like Lindsey. I am not sure if he is doing it on purpose or it may be just a subconscious thing. But, that is disappointing to me as I have...

I also thought that Neil was trying to sound like Lindsey in this performance. And strangely enough, that was working for me until they played Second Hand News.

I felt that in the Ellen performance too.

I’m honestly not hearing this supposed affectation in Neil’s singing. His singing accent has always sounded a bit Americanized to me, and these performances sound like him.

I also thought it sounded good! Although I still don't watch it for the music, I just want to see how Neil is doing. And I still find it weird to see him front and centre of a different band than his own... It looks like he just took them over! (Which for some reason i find absolutely hilarious.) I happened to use Infinity Sessions week three for exactly this purpose

Apart from the various b-sides, probably the best one to get is the Visconti version of Everyone is Here, and maybe Mary of the South Seas which getting trickier to find even though it was released on Other Enz vol.1. Of course there are a number of bootleg concerts out there as well.

https://www.youtube.com/channe...5Or7-ffQhiLShd67bHyg Peter Green has posted early studio versions of at least 4 tracks done at Roundhead Studios 2003 from Everyone is Here, and non album tracks too! These are total gems.

Mary was also on a collection of Celtic music; don't remember the name and don't know if it is still in print. Maybe I can track it down.

Into the water from Tim’s Anthology is also half a Finn Bros song, with vocals from both Tim and Neil. And the version of throw your arms around me from the Tim Finn rarities collection. And the demo from Prodigal son. Since its a bside from the Finn bros its pretty rare I guess.

"Mary of the South Seas" can be found on the Common Ground album (an Irish inspired album) from 1996 (issued in Holland). There was also a 5 track promo sampler that also featured the track.

Also known as “Don’t Rely On”, it was recorded by Tim and Neil in 1990 for the Finn Brothers album before that project was abandoned and Tim joined Crowded House. The song was rewritten and re-recorded as “Always Never Now” for Tim’s Before and After album.

Thanks, Jaffman - is the "Always Never Know" still credited to both Tim and Neil on "Before & After?" OR should he, technically be credited, but decided to leave his name off it? Or was Neil never even co-credited for "Sound Of Truth?" Just curious. Thanks. Happy holidays to you and yours. xo

I don’t have Tim’s album to hand right now to check the credits but Neil sang some verses on the original, which likely means it was co-written.

Thanks, Jaffa - I don't remember seeing Neil credited on Tim's version of "Always Never Know," but it's possible he/they decided to leave his name off it. I did check the wikipedia for and Neil's not credited. Maybe Tim changed it enough to warrant a credit, or maybe it was just their choice. I'd love to know the behind the scenes story. Hmmm.
