Re: Most Underrated Crowded House Songs

"Nobody wants to" comes to mind immediately for me. I think it's a beautiful little gem. I also love "In the Lowlands", both musically and lyrically. There's so much going on in this song. I agree with you on Pinenapple Head being underrated. It seems a silly little singalong song at first, but it's so well crafted.

In no particular order: Archer's Arrow, Never Be the Same, English Trees, Amsterdam and, yes, Even a Child as stated previously So many terrific ones to choose... hard to narrow down

For those that haven't read it, our beloved Axver attempted to rank EVERY A-side Crowded House song from the 6 albums, Afterglow and Recurring Dream Best of: https://rateyourmusic.com/list...wded-house-ranked/1/ It motivated me to make one of my own. Whilst it seems pointless, overly technical and subject to constant change, it was actually a very fun journey to go on. It really got me thinking about what I do and don't love about every song and deepened my appreciation of their entire...

Sure! This would almost warrant a separate thread, because it's always a fun conversation starter. Some people are bewildered that their favourite song ranks so low, others are happy that somebody else shares an obscure favourite of theirs, but it always makes for spirited discussion. Re: Most Underrated Crowded House Songs

Cradle2Grave ·
It's pretty painstaking and time-consuming. To start out, I just positioned them roughly on the list depending on how much I like them. Then I worked through the list head-to-head (1st vs 2nd, 2nd vs 3rd etc) and whenever I preferred the lower song, it would keep moving up until it 'lost'. I found the more different two songs are, the harder they are to compare. Think about Now We're Getting Somewhere and Help Is Coming. I love both of them but the sound, atmosphere and mood are polar...

All so subjective but Fall at your feet at 51 is.... Controversial! My underated tune is always Tombstone. It starts with the greatest lyrics of any song. In fact the sequence Can't carry on => I walk away => Tombstone is just a perfect sequence.

Re: Most Underrated Crowded House Songs

Cradle2Grave ·
That's my favourite stretch of the album. What makes it all the more curious is that Tombstone is an extremely crowd-friendly, singalong type of song. I can understand that atmospheric, moody masterpieces like Catherine Wheels and Kare Kare are not built for radio. But Tombstone? It could easily be an all-time classic pop-rock song in a parallel universe. I mean it just oozes 'mega-hit'. Looking at the track listing, those gems towards the back of the album may have simply been victims of...

Personally if it makes any sense whatsover, I like the songs on 'Crowded House' but not the album. For me all the songs blur into one and I can't tell them apart. Not sure if anyone else has this problem or has an album that makes them feel the same way.

Well, are you in the UK? Or is this the only way you can get them? What IS the UK price? Nevermind, forget all that. Totally worth it.

So Crowded House-Together Alone are about 14 pounds each. Afterglow is 10 pounds. Time on Earth is 16 pounds. Intriguer is 5 pounds.

Great bargain on Intriguer. Some terrific tracks on the bonus. All of them do, really, though the first three have mostly demo/live versions of the album tracks, as opposed to "new" songs (outtakes). If you are a massive Crowdie, you won't be disappointed. Some of the real audiophiles on the board say the remastering of the original albums appealed to them; I can't tell much difference, as I mostly listen in my somewhat noisy truck, but I have enjoyed the bonus discs immensely. If the price...

I don't think either version (Luton or the 1983 re-recording) is particularly memorable, unfortunately, although I probably prefer the Luton version.

I love it; absolutely fantastic melody. I feel like the subject matter (suicide) is treated a little flippantly but there is some irony there. I suppose. Both versions are fine but the middle 8 of the 83 version probably wins for me, though I prefer the original slightly darker lyric. Rear Enz version has tape issue. 78 version is badly mastered and hard on the ears, but otherwise pretty good. Overall though it’s a melodic, forgotten gem.

I like the 1983 version so much that I wish they would have included it on Time & Tide. FWIW, I think that album badly needs a couple winners to replace some of the clunkers.

I like both versions of Next Exit. The 83 version wins for me. Time And Tide is perfect tho and clunker free. Pioneer, Six Months, Dirty Creature and Haul Away are the ones the casual listener/fan would know. But Hello Sandy, Log Cabin, Small World and the whole rest of the album is exceptional. And the core of the band (Tim, Ed, Noel, Nigel and Neil) all consider it their best album. And as the second Next Exit was recorded 83 if it was going to be added to an album it would be Conflicting...

I agree, Jeremy about Time and Tide . Probably the Enz's best album, though I think the international 1981 version of Frenzy is just as good. But it might have improved Conflicting Emotions, though it doesn't really quite fit in with that cold mechanized sound of Conflicting Emotions.

I guess I would drop "Never Ceases to Amaze Me" and "Lost for Words" and replace them with "Next Exit" and "Remember When" (both obviously the later recordings not the Luton versions). For me, the album's momentum just hits a brick wall when you get to NCTAM and LFW, which is a shame because I think "Small World" is one of the best Enz songs. Here's what I did to make the album more enjoyable for my tastes: Haul Away Dirty Creature Giant Heartbeat Small World Hello Sandy Allen Next Exit Make...

I really like Next Exit. It’s actually one of the first Enz songs I heard when I started searching for CH-related music in the early 2000s, possibly because it was one of the few that had a music video on YouTube at that time.

Most Underrated Crowded House Songs

Been a few of these posts but none of them come from anywhere later than post Time On Earth. In your opinion which Crowded House songs do not get enough praise or recognition? For me it's: Anyone Can Tell, Pineapple Head, As Sure As I Am, Even A Child and Italian Plastic.

Though 'Next Exit' is a fairly obscure song from Split Enz I know most fans know it quite well. However, I don't think I've seem any reviews or opinions on the song itself. Just wanted to know if anyone had any interesting information on the song or wanted to post an opinion! Thanks!
